About Mandarin Wong Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to Mandarin Wong Chinese Restaurant, located at 23758 Lyons Ave in Newhall, CA 91321. As a Chinese restaurant serving the Newhall community, Mandarin Wong aims to provide a variety of Chinese-style dishes for local users. However, recent customer reviews available online highlight a significant discrepancy between the quality of the food and the level of service experienced by diners, particularly those visiting with young children.

Several reviewers have commented positively on the food itself. One customer, who had visited Mandarin Wong previously, stated that "the food is always great." Another reviewer who tried the restaurant after a couple of years mentioned that "the food was decent" and had no complaints about its quality. This suggests that Mandarin Wong may offer flavorful and satisfactory Chinese cuisine that meets the expectations of its patrons.

Despite the positive remarks about the food, a recurring and significant issue raised in the customer feedback is the poor quality of the service. One reviewer described their recent experience as "less than welcoming," pointing out that there seemed to be only one server who was overwhelmed and disorganized ("all over the place"). This resulted in delays in taking orders. More concerningly, this reviewer, who was dining with an 11-month-old baby, recounted instances where the server placed hot plates dangerously close to the child, requiring the customer to intervene and move them to the center of the table for safety. The reviewer also noted the difficulty in getting the server's attention and eventually had to get up to retrieve their own napkins and utensils. While acknowledging the good food, this customer felt compelled to point out the need for service improvement and indicated a preference for ordering takeout in the future due to these service issues, also advising others to order ahead due to potential wait times.

Another review echoed these sentiments regarding the service. This customer, who visited with a party of four including a 10-month-old baby, described the service as "a joke." They recounted an incident where the waitress spilled water and did not offer any assistance or extra napkins, despite the restaurant not being busy. Similar to the first review, this customer also reported that the waitress would place hot plates directly in front of the baby, necessitating constant vigilance and intervention from the dining party. They also experienced difficulty in getting the waitress's attention and had to get up to find napkins themselves. While this reviewer also found the food to be "good," they emphasized that the poor service was a major drawback and ultimately left it to the reader's discretion whether to dine at the restaurant.

Based on these recent reviews, a significant feature of Mandarin Wong appears to be the quality of its Chinese cuisine, which is described as "great" and "decent" by different customers. However, this positive aspect is consistently overshadowed by serious concerns regarding the attentiveness and competence of the waitstaff, particularly when dealing with families with young children. The service issues include slow order taking, inattentiveness, lack of assistance with spills, and, most alarmingly, a lack of awareness regarding the safe placement of hot dishes around infants.

The reviews provide limited information about the environment of Mandarin Wong Chinese Restaurant. One reviewer mentioned going in for an evening dinner, suggesting a dine-in option is available. However, there are no descriptions of the restaurant's decor, cleanliness, or overall ambiance. Given the focus of the reviews on service issues, it is difficult to ascertain the atmosphere of the dining area. Local users interested in the environment may need to visit the location or look for additional information or photos online.

Regarding the services offered, Mandarin Wong clearly provides dine-in service, as indicated by the customers' experiences of eating at the restaurant. One reviewer also mentioned ordering "Togo" (takeout), suggesting that this service is also available. The advice to "order a head of time" implies that there might be a delay in preparing takeout orders, so customers should plan accordingly. The availability of delivery services is not mentioned in the provided reviews, so local users would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about this option.

There is no promotional information mentioned in the provided customer reviews. Therefore, we have no data on any specials, discounts, or other promotions that Mandarin Wong might be offering. Local users interested in such information should contact the restaurant directly using the provided phone numbers: (661) 259-5823 or +1 661-259-5823, or check if they have any online presence where promotions might be advertised.

In conclusion, Mandarin Wong Chinese Restaurant in Newhall offers food that has been described as "great" and "decent" by recent customers. However, the service appears to be a significant area of concern, with reviewers citing inattentive and disorganized staff, slow service, and a lack of awareness regarding safety when serving hot food around young children. While the food quality seems to be a positive aspect, potential diners, especially families with infants, should be aware of the reported service issues. Ordering takeout might be a preferred option for some based on these experiences. To learn about the restaurant's environment, the availability of delivery, and any current promotions, direct contact with Mandarin Wong is recommended.

So, I went in with my family to have an evening dinner. I've been here before, and the food is always great. My experience this time was less than welcoming. One server, and she was the just all over the place. Taking our orders took a while. We had our 11 month old with us and as HOT plates came in she thought it be great to set them now near or around the baby I had to personally grab some from her and place them more to the center of our table. Trying to even get her attention was a chore, and I even got up myself to grab some napkins and utensils. The food was great, but I can't lie there, but service needs help. Almost felt I should've stepped in and started serving other patrons that started coming in. Other than that, next time, we will order Togo. FYI order a head of time they do take a min.

Today, Sunday August 11th we decided to try this restaurant out (it has been a couple years since we came) And seriously the service is a joke! But let's start off with the food, the food was decent. Can't complain, but the waitress there was horrible. I don't know if she was new or what but in our party of four we had a baby (10 months old), she spilled water and we did not get extra napkins and the waitress did not offer assistance, (mind you the restaurant was not busy) , secondly, she would stand there with the plates and either hand them to my partner or place them (HOT) right in front of the baby, we had to constantly try many times to get her attention and she would walk off , do something else, and finally come to us. We had to get up and find napkins because this female was of no assistance, definitley needs better service but other than that the food is good. I would leave it to your discretion to eat here.

With so many generic Chinese Food restaurants all over town...all over every town really, we found Mandarin Wong, albeit in a mostly non-descript atmosphere, to be among the better options in terms of the actual food! They had plenty for vegetarians including "Lemon Tofu" which we hadn't had any kind of version of since before we were vegetarians. It tasted just like we remembered, albeit with tofu instead of chicken or beef. We also had veggie egg rolls (good), and Fried Rice as an upgrade to the rice that came with the food we ordered. (It's a basic fried rice with no vegetables in it but it tasted good.) My wife was happy with her "Buddha's Feast" which came with a generous amount of tofu and vegetables, and the egg flower soup she ordered was swimming with a generous amount of eggs and tasted good too. We appreciate a place that has many vegetarian options and thought, among the vast array of Chinese Food options nearby or anywhere, Mandarin Wong is a good go-to for basic Chinese food offerings that we would happily try again.

This place is by far the best fo the best triple s tier chinese food I’ve ever had in California. A huge portion for $20 dinner special and perfect flavors of the food. Didn’t expect this but left a huge impression. I would say tho, they should let the server know that she shouldn’t be on phone even though she’s not serving at the moment. Everything else was beyond my expectation and it was great. No complains.

Been searching for good hot and sour soup for the longest ever since I've moved to California. Surprisingly SoCal has so many Chinese restaurants around the SGV area, but I haven't found a place that serves what I'm used to. My daughter had a school event in the area so we stopped by before heading home. Wow best Chinese food by far. Loved their hot and sour soup and the beef snowpeas with brown sauce! Might have to make the drive back up to try out their other dishes when we have time.
