About Mandarin Taste

Mandarin Taste is a Chinese restaurant located at 6805 York Rd, Baltimore, MD 21212, USA. As a Chinese restaurant serving the Baltimore community, Mandarin Taste primarily functions as a takeout establishment but also offers limited dine-in seating with six tables available for customers who prefer to eat on-site. They can be contacted at (410) 377-2500 or +1 410-377-2500 for placing orders or inquiries.

Based on recent customer feedback, Mandarin Taste presents a somewhat mixed experience. One reviewer, who dined in with a group, found the food to be "quite good," suggesting a satisfactory level of quality in their dishes. However, this same reviewer expressed disappointment regarding the beverage selection, noting the absence of Chinese tea, which is a common offering in many Chinese restaurants. This could be a point of consideration for customers who appreciate traditional accompaniments to their meals.

Regarding the environment, the reviewer who dined in described the decor as being "nicer than the average Chinese takeout place but not quite as nice as an average person Chinese restaurant," and even provided a photo to illustrate this. This suggests that Mandarin Taste offers a slightly more appealing ambiance than a purely functional takeout spot, making it a potentially acceptable option for a quick meal at one of their six tables, without the expectation of a formal restaurant setting.

Another customer shared an experience involving a takeout order of Orange Chicken. This reviewer encountered an issue with the dish, finding that the sauce made the chicken "very soggy." Promptly addressing this concern, the customer called the restaurant and spoke with a gentleman, believed to be the manager, who was described as "very cordial and accommodating." The manager reportedly instructed the customer to bring back the dish for a replacement by the chef, indicating a willingness to resolve food quality issues.

However, the subsequent in-person interaction with another employee, described as a "mature aged female (no senior)," took a negative turn. This employee allegedly appeared "irritated" about the returned food and became "hostile," including her choice of words. Despite the customer maintaining a pleasant and understanding demeanor, the employee reportedly refused to replace the dish, leading to a refund. During the refund process, the customer also claimed that the employee "tried" to short-change them, raising concerns about the handling of financial transactions.

The overall takeaway from this second review is a significant concern regarding the lack of respect shown by this particular employee, even when the customer was being reasonable. The reviewer also mentioned "insults spoken in Mandarin or Cantonese," which, while not understood directly, contributed to a negative perception of the interaction. This highlights potential issues with interpersonal communication and customer service by at least one member of the staff.

As a Chinese restaurant, Mandarin Taste likely offers a standard menu of popular Chinese-American dishes, which typically includes a variety of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood preparations, along with rice and noodle dishes, and appetizers. The mention of Orange Chicken in one of the reviews confirms the presence of this common dish on their menu. Given the positive feedback on the "kid's food" from the first reviewer, it can be inferred that they offer options suitable for children as well.

The primary service offered by Mandarin Taste appears to be takeout, given the first reviewer's initial description of it as "mainly a Chinese takeout place." However, the presence of six tables indicates that they do provide a dine-in option for a limited number of customers. It is not explicitly mentioned whether they offer delivery services. Customers in the local area may want to inquire about delivery options when placing their orders.

Features of Mandarin Taste seem to include the reported good quality of their food, at least according to one reviewer's experience with the "kid's food." The slightly more pleasant decor compared to a typical takeout establishment might be another feature for those choosing to dine in. The accommodating nature of the manager in addressing the issue with the Orange Chicken also stands out as a positive feature in terms of customer service, although this was unfortunately overshadowed by the subsequent negative interaction with another employee.

No promotional information, such as special discounts, combination deals, or loyalty programs, is mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in potential promotions would need to contact Mandarin Taste directly or check if they have any online presence that might list such offers. Given the mixed feedback on customer service, it might be prudent to inquire about any ongoing promotions when placing an order via phone.

In conclusion, Mandarin Taste in Baltimore, MD, offers Chinese takeout with limited dine-in seating. While one customer found the food to be good and appreciated the slightly nicer decor than a typical takeout place, they were disappointed by the lack of Chinese tea. Another customer experienced an issue with a soggy Orange Chicken dish, which was initially handled well by the manager, but the situation escalated due to a hostile and unprofessional interaction with another employee, including an alleged attempt to short-change the customer and the use of possibly insulting language in Chinese. Potential local users should weigh the positive feedback on food quality and the dine-in environment against the reported negative customer service experience. It might be advisable to be mindful of potential communication issues and to double-check orders and transactions.

Mainly a Chinese takeout place. It does have six tables. My group ate there yesterday. The kid was food was quite good, but we were disappointed that they didn't have any Chinese tea. The decor is nicer than the average Chinese takeout place but not quite as nice as an average person Chinese restaurant (see photo).

I lived 10 mins away and decided to try their food for the first time. So I ordered the orange chicken. Unfortunately, the sauce that came with the meal made the meat very soggy. So, I called to explain my concern, and a gentleman on the other end (I believe manager) was very cordial and accommodating. He told me to bring back the dish, and he would have the chef replace it. Upon arrival, a mature aged female (no senior) employee seemed irritated about why I was returning the food and became hostile, including her word usage. Yet I maintain being pleasant and understanding. Her refusal led to a refund in which she "tried" to short change me. Overall, my issue is the lack of respect even when one doesn't agree. And the insults spoken in Mandarin or Cantonese.

I’ve ordered from this place a couple of times and the food is ok. I decided to try it again and the service over the phone was atrocious. I cancelled the order.

Years ago on Sunday night I loved some Shrimp Egg Foo Young from places on the SW of town. This was what I expected taste wise. An added extra is the shrimp were decent size and fresh. The shrimp egg rolls were really good. Delivery was fast. The brown gray could use a little more taste. I recommend this dish.

I’ve eaten there many times and it’s always been consistent and good. We usually order orange chicken, shrimp mai fun, and a jumbo shrimp dish (shrimp Hunan or Szechuan). Their spicy Shrimp Hunan or Shrimp Szechuan are consistently not spicy at all for me so I need to order extra spicy. I’ve also ordered requesting less/little oil and have been happy with it.
