About Mandarin Reading Restaurant
Located at 296 Salem St in Reading, Massachusetts, 01867, USA, Mandarin Reading Restaurant presents a somewhat unique establishment that operates both as a Chinese Restaurant and, notably, as a highly regarded sushi restaurant according to customer reviews. This dual offering suggests that Mandarin Reading Restaurant caters to a broad range of palates, providing traditional Chinese dishes alongside a significant emphasis on Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi. They can be contacted at (781) 942-8200 or via their mobile number +1 781-942-8200.
Based on recent customer feedback, the perception of Mandarin Reading Restaurant's Chinese food offerings appears to be mixed. One reviewer described the food as "decent but nothing special," suggesting a satisfactory but not exceptional quality. Another reviewer specifically mentioned negative experiences with certain Chinese dishes, noting a "weird taste of rice in pork fried rice" and that the "chicken lo main pasta was kinda hard" and both dishes were "really oily." This indicates potential inconsistencies in the preparation and quality of their Chinese cuisine, particularly in staple dishes like fried rice and lo mein. However, this same reviewer did find the "Gayoza tho very good," suggesting that some of their appetizer-style items might be more successful.
In stark contrast to the somewhat lukewarm or negative reviews of the Chinese food, Mandarin Reading Restaurant receives exceptional praise for its sushi. One reviewer emphatically stated, "Mandarin Reding is in my opinion the absolute best sushi restaurant around." This strong endorsement highlights a significant strength of the establishment. This reviewer also mentioned that they "rarely even order from the menu," instead relying on the creativity of "Lou the chef" to create "incredible dishes that will rock your world!" A specific favorite mentioned is the "Seafood Spoons," indicating a signature or highly recommended sushi item.
The service at Mandarin Reading Restaurant also receives high accolades, with one reviewer describing it as "out of this world" and creating a welcoming atmosphere where they "make you feel at home" while serving "amazing drinks." The role of "Robert the manager" is specifically highlighted, noting that he "greets you and makes feel at home" and impressively remembers customers' names. This emphasis on personalized and attentive service suggests that Mandarin Reading Restaurant strives to create a positive and welcoming environment for its patrons.
One reviewer inquired about the availability of a buffet, noting that a picture suggesting a buffet was from eight years prior. This indicates that Mandarin Reading Restaurant may have offered a buffet in the past, but there is no current information to confirm whether this option is still available. Local users interested in a buffet would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about its current offerings.
Considering the dual nature of Mandarin Reading Restaurant as both a Chinese and sushi establishment, the environment might reflect this blend. It could potentially have separate areas or a unified decor that aims to appeal to both types of diners. The positive comments about feeling at home and the manager's welcoming demeanor suggest a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for customers, regardless of their culinary preferences. However, specific details about the restaurant's ambiance, layout, or decor are not provided in the reviews.
The services offered by Mandarin Reading Restaurant likely include both dine-in and takeout options, given that it operates as a traditional restaurant. The strong praise for the sushi chef's ability to create off-menu items suggests a willingness to cater to customer preferences and a high level of culinary skill in their sushi preparation. The mention of "amazing drinks" indicates that they likely have a bar service as well. The exceptional customer service, with a manager who makes patrons feel welcome and remembers their names, is a significant service feature that sets them apart.
The key features of Mandarin Reading Restaurant are its dual identity as a Chinese and a highly-rated sushi restaurant, the exceptional sushi creations of Chef Lou (particularly the Seafood Spoons), and the outstanding customer service provided by the staff and manager Robert. While the Chinese food seems to have received mixed reviews regarding quality and consistency, the sushi is clearly a major draw. The personalized service and welcoming atmosphere are also significant features that contribute to a positive dining experience, especially for sushi enthusiasts.
The provided information does not contain any specific details about current promotional offers at Mandarin Reading Restaurant, aside from the potential historical availability of a buffet. Local users interested in any specials, discounts, or promotions are advised to contact the restaurant directly or check their website or local online ordering platforms for any advertised deals.
In conclusion, Mandarin Reading Restaurant in Reading, MA, presents a unique combination of Chinese cuisine and exceptional sushi. While some customers have reported issues with the quality and consistency of certain Chinese dishes, the restaurant stands out for its highly-praised sushi, particularly the creative dishes crafted by Chef Lou, including the notable Seafood Spoons. For local users in Reading, Mandarin Reading Restaurant offers a diverse menu catering to both Chinese food cravings and a desire for top-notch sushi, all within a friendly and welcoming environment. Those primarily interested in Chinese cuisine might want to inquire about recent changes or popular dishes, while sushi lovers are likely to find a standout experience here.

Mandarin Reding is in my opinion the absolute best sushi restaurant around. I rarely even order from the menu. Lou the chef can make some incredible dishes that will rock your world! My absolute favorite captives is the Seafood Spoons. The service is out of this world where they make you feel at home and serve up amazing drinks. Robert the manager greets you and makes feel at home. If he learns your name he always remembers your name.
The tuna blossom sushi was very delicious and fresh. I enjoyed most of the sushi dishes I ordered that night. I was a bit disappointed by the chicken dish, sorry I forgot what it's called now. The service was great. I had a waitress named Jenny and she was awesome and attentive. Everything was very clean and orderly too.
Have Always been Very Impressed with this Restaurant. My Wife and I often go for date night, I meet My cousins and uncle here for lunch and My Daughter and I have Sushi day here, It's The Best 👌 Hoping The Buffet gets reopened soon it has everything. I Highly Recommended The Mandrarin Ready Restaurant 👍👍
This was my first and last time here. The client I take care of hasn't been here in 7 years and he said it was the best around. So I walked in and asked to see the menu, my client wanted fried shrimp and I couldn't see it on menu so I asked if she had fried shrimp and she said if u don't see it on the menu then we don't have it. So I called my client to see what he wanted he got the shrimp in lobster sauce and cake with pork fried rice and egg roll . I ordered the general gaus chicken with rice and egg roll. I asked if I could substitute one of the pork fried rice the house special rice and would pay extra, she then said to me it clearly says no substitutes on lunch specials, which I honestly didn't see it on the menu , so whatever I was dealing with her rudness, If my client didn't want this I would have walked out for sure!!! Wish I went with my gut, this was the worst food EVER rice was squishy and absolutely no flavor in anything and the egg rolls is literally soggy and only cabbage, my client can't stop saying how disgusting it it ..we didn't even eat it and it's expensive, should have gone to mcdonalds. Anyways when I was paying I told her hang on one second I have to transfer money she said ,it declined I said I know I said I had to transfer money , so as I am handing her my card to say try again it's all set she snapped it out of my hand and u could tell she wasn't happy . Never again , never !!!! I don't know how they have a good raring. I give 0 stars
