Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Mandarin Kitchen appear to be varied. One review from November 11, 2023, detailed significant issues with the food quality and order accuracy. According to this customer, an order for fried dumplings resulted in receiving deep-fried Gau Gee instead, which was unsatisfactory. The main concern raised in this review involved a cold ginger chicken on rice dish. The customer reported a foul smell and slimy texture of the chicken, indicating it was not fresh. Upon returning to the restaurant, the cashier inquired if the ginger sauce had been poured over the chicken, implying that the sauce might mask the odor of spoiled chicken. Although a replacement was offered, the customer expressed concern about the freshness of the ingredients and ultimately found the leftover chicken to be rotten the following day, with a visible pink/orange slime. This experience led the customer to advise others against purchasing food from Mandarin Kitchen and to urge the restaurant to discard any remaining chicken from the same batch.
In contrast, another customer shared a more positive experience, describing the takeout Chinese food as "pretty decent" and notably better than some other local options they had tried. This reviewer particularly praised the noodle dishes and mentioned that their mother enjoyed the fish filet dish. However, they found the roast duck and salt and pepper pork chop to be "mediocre," suggesting inconsistency across different menu items. This customer expressed an intention to try other dishes in the future to identify their preferred items from Mandarin Kitchen.
Considering these two recent reviews, it is challenging to form a definitive overall picture of the environment and services at Mandarin Kitchen. The starkly contrasting experiences suggest potential inconsistencies in food quality and order fulfillment. The negative review raises serious concerns about food safety and quality control, while the positive review indicates that some dishes are well-received by certain customers.
Regarding the features of Mandarin Kitchen, the limited information available primarily focuses on the food itself. The menu appears to include a range of standard Chinese takeout fare, such as noodle dishes, fish filet, roast duck, salt and pepper pork chop, and potentially Dim Sum items like fried dumplings (though this was a point of confusion in one review). The mention of a picture menu on their window suggests that visual aids are used to showcase some of their offerings.
The services provided seem to be primarily focused on takeout, as indicated by the nature of the reviews. One customer picked up their order, while the other specifically mentioned "takeout Chinese food." The interaction described in the negative review involved a return trip to the restaurant to address issues with the order and the quality of the food, suggesting a willingness to engage with customer concerns, albeit with an initial implication that sauce might mask food spoilage.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for Mandarin Kitchen in the provided text. Without further information from online sources or the restaurant itself, it is not possible to comment on any special offers, discounts, or marketing efforts they may have.
In summary, Mandarin Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant located on Kilauea Avenue in Honolulu, primarily serving takeout. Customer reviews present a mixed picture. One review highlights significant concerns regarding food quality, freshness, and order accuracy, raising red flags about potential food safety issues. Another review offers a more favorable perspective, praising certain dishes like the noodle dishes and fish filet while finding others, such as the roast duck and salt and pepper pork chop, to be average. Potential customers may want to consider these contrasting experiences when deciding whether to order from Mandarin Kitchen. Further investigation into more recent reviews or direct contact with the restaurant might provide a more comprehensive understanding of their current standards and offerings.

Do Not Buy Food From Here!! We went here yesterday 11/11/23 1. My son wanted fried dumplings (picture menu on their window), they gave us deep fried Gau Gee instead. He couldn't eat it. I went back inside to pick up my food the 2nd time, asked them why the difference? They said they didn't have fried dumplings. 2. Main issue: I was craving for cold ginger chicken on rice. Ginger sauce was in a Togo container so I didn't pour it over my chicken, but the chicken already have weird smell, and slimy to the touch, one small bite, I knew it's old chicken. I went back and the cashier asked me if I pour the sauce over (pour the sauce over, you may not be able to tell the foul smelling). They said they would make me a new one. I told them with the chicken from the same batch? I don't want it. They said new chicken. I ate half yesterday, and was to eat the leftover today. Just opening the box, the foul smell exploded in my kitchen. Rotten. I called the restaurant to tell them to get rid of it if they have any left before they make people sick. Not acceptable. They intended to serve me bad food. The chicken today has pink/orange slim on it, slimy to the touch.
Pretty decent takeout Chinese food... definitely better than some of other ones I have tried. Their noodle dishes were the best and my mom loves their fish filet dish. Roast duck and salt and pepper pork chop were mediocre... will try some different dishes next time so that I can find a dish that I would love to get everytime. 😋
Great service! And the chicken is so ono!! Great quick lunch for go beach. Right by McDonalds and Kahala.
Ordered take out using their menu online. Was very pleased to see actual good pricing on their plates (ordered 3 plates and they were all listed as $10 or below on their menu) When I got there the total was $50 and was quite confused and frustrated why I was paying $20 more then the price I saw. I asked, they said they haven't updated their online menu in two years (false advertisement ?) If I knew it was going to be $16 and up a plate, I would have ordered from a nicer restaurant for the same price. Was decent food, just not worth the price. The sweet and sour pork, is mainly breading not much meat but the lo men was good.
Had an unfortunate first-impression, having ordered what looked like a hot meal, but after calling, they said it is normally served cold. They offered nothing to win back my business for my disappointment.
