About Mandarin House(Jin Hung Gak)

Mandarin House, also known as Jin Hung Gak, located at 928 S Western Ave in Los Angeles, is a Chinese restaurant specializing in Korean-style Chinese cuisine. This establishment has been a long-time favorite for many, particularly known for certain signature dishes.

One highly praised dish is the Jjambbong, a spicy noodle soup, which is noted for its rich and flavorful broth, perfectly cooked onions and seafood, complementing the noodles. Another standout is the Tang Soo Yook (Sweet & Sour Pork), which is distinctively served with the sauce and fried pork separately – a significant point for many diners as it prevents the pork from becoming soggy. The fried pork itself is described as having a sticky batter that adheres well without being overly wet, and the sweet and sour sauce is lauded for achieving a balanced flavor, avoiding excessive sourness.

Many customers have a long-standing preference for dishes like the Samseon Jjambbong (seafood noodle soup) and Gan Jjajang (black bean sauce noodles with stir-fried ingredients). However, recent experiences indicate some inconsistency. While the Gan Jjajang remains a reliable favorite, the regular Jajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodles) was considered just okay and not recommended for reorder by one long-time patron.

The Sautéed Mixed Seafood (Palbochae) received positive feedback, though one customer noted that the mustard sauce served with it was not the expected spicy mustard. There was a significant concern raised regarding a recent order of Samseon Jjambbong, where the soup base was described as lacking seafood flavor and being excessively oily due to hot pepper oils, a departure from the usual quality. The customer's feedback to the owner about this change in taste was met with a response highlighting positive feedback from other customers, indicating a potential shift in preparation or differing taste preferences among patrons.

Despite some recent inconsistencies reported in specific dishes, Mandarin House (Jin Hung Gak) is known for its Jjambbong and uniquely served Tang Soo Yook. Long-time fans also appreciate the Gan Jjajang. Potential diners might want to inquire about the current preparation of dishes like the Samseon Jjambbong based on recent feedback. Jjambbong : On point, especially with its soup. Not only is it rich with its flavoring, but the onion and seafoods are cooked just right to go along with noodles! Tang Soo Yook(Sweet&Sour Pork) : By default, staff brought out the sauce and fried pork separately! (This is huge point!) Flours fried with porks were sticky enough to surround the pork and not be too ‘wet’. THE REAL DEAL is this sauce! Not many are able to achieve this Sweet and Sour feeling without too much of ‘Sour’ (as they tend to overtake the flavor), but I think Mandarin House achieved the right balance here!

This has been one of my long-time favorite Korean style Chinese restaurants in LA K-Town. We always get 삼선짬뽕 as it is my husband's favorite, and I get 간짜장. This time he ordered 삼선짬뽕 as always, and we wanted to give a try to regular Jajang myeon (as this should be the basic of the basic). And we tried Sautéed Mixed seafood (팔보채). (FYI. I love their 돼지고기 탕수육, and it's my favorite here). 1. I would not reorder Jajang myeon if we go back. Their 간짜장 has been always good, but not Jajang myeon...It is okay...but not that good. 2. 팔보채- We both loved it. (However, we asked for mustard sauce, but it was not a spicy mustard, but rather taste like a regular mustard sauce you would eat with burger or chicken nuggets). 3. 삼선짬뽕 - I can give 1 out of 5 stars...The soup base does not even taste like any seafood flavor, but full of hot pepper oils....making the soup extra greasy. I told the owner of the restaurant that the taste of it is a lot different from what we always get, as I want this restaurant to maintain the quality of their food and flavor. But the reaction I got was "Other customers complemented how tasty it is.." Oh well...everyone's taste is different, and I cannot force you to believe what I said...Believe what you want to believe and just hear what you want to hear. (I almost said why don't you try it now) lol. I would not even serve it to my family (even before selling it to others).

Still the best place for Kkam-bbung Shrimp, Tang-su-yuk, and seafood jjam-bbong in KTLA, imo. One-star off because their Jja-jang noodle is not as good as it used to be.... and Gan-jja-jang didn't have any smoke taste, or "bul-mat".... Service is very friendly and kind, as always!

My favorite Korean Chinese restaurant! Best in Los Angeles and better than many even in Korea! The fried mandu, fried rice, and jjajangmyeon are so delicious! Highly recommended... And you can then even do some shopping over at H-Mart next door!

Very tasty Jjajangmyeon! Got the meat sauce (#7) in noodles. Probably my favorite I've tried in ktown so far. They have several different types of jjajangmyeon, but the meat sauce one was the best one compared to the seafood and regular jjajangmyeon. Had plenty of veggies and meats finely chopped into the sauce. Also had the pan fried dumplings which were amazing! I'll definitely be coming back to try different menu items. They give plenty for the price. The service was typical korean style restaurant. If you want service, get their attention, call out, etc. Sweet people and delicious foods.
