Welcome to Mandarin Court, a unique Chinese and Japanese restaurant located at 17233 Wayside Dr #2767 in Dumfries, Virginia. As a local establishment, Mandarin Court distinguishes itself by offering a diverse menu that combines the rich and varied traditions of both Chinese and Japanese cuisines. This dual offering makes it a convenient choice for diners with differing preferences, allowing everyone in a group to find something to satisfy their cravings. According to customer feedback, Mandarin Court is a family-owned business, suggesting a personal touch in their approach to food and service.
While specific details about the restaurant's ambiance and interior design are not extensively covered in the provided reviews, one customer noted the friendly demeanor of the owner, who was also involved in preparing the sushi. This suggests a hands-on approach by the management and potentially a welcoming and personal atmosphere within the restaurant. The fact that it is a family-owned business often translates to a more intimate and caring environment for diners.
The service at Mandarin Court appears to be a strong point, with one reviewer describing the owner and staff as "super sweet" and "happy to answer any questions about the menu." This positive feedback indicates a commitment to customer satisfaction and a willingness to engage with diners, providing helpful information and creating a pleasant dining experience. The friendly interaction with the owner, especially noted in the context of sushi preparation, adds a personal touch that can enhance the overall impression of the restaurant.
A significant feature of Mandarin Court is its dual offering of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. This allows patrons to explore different culinary styles in one location. One reviewer mentioned that this combination "pleases both my husband & I, he orders Chinese & I order sushi!" highlighting the convenience and appeal of this diverse menu. This suggests that Mandarin Court caters to a broad range of tastes and preferences within a single dining experience.
In terms of the Japanese cuisine, particularly the sushi, customer reviews offer some interesting insights. One reviewer who tried a California Roll found it to be simple and basic but noted that the rice was "definitely a bit more on the mushy side, over cooked for sure." This indicates a potential area for improvement in the sushi rice preparation. The same reviewer also tried the Spider Roll, which they found to be "very different" from what they were accustomed to, featuring a large Romaine Lettuce leaf incorporated into the roll. While the reviewer appreciated trying new things, they were uncertain if this particular variation worked well. This suggests that Mandarin Court might offer some unique interpretations of classic sushi rolls.
On the other hand, another customer had a more positive experience with the sushi, specifically mentioning the "spicy salmon rolls" as "addicting" and something they could "eat forever!" They also described the sushi as "fresh, beautifully made, & worth the price!" This contrasting feedback suggests that the quality and appeal of the sushi dishes at Mandarin Court may vary or that different customers have different preferences and expectations.
Turning to the Chinese cuisine, the reviews highlight some particularly enjoyable dishes. The "Chicken Corn Soup w/ the crispy Wontons and Sweet & Sour Sauce" was described as "exceptionally delicious." This positive feedback indicates that Mandarin Court excels in preparing classic Chinese soups and accompanying elements. Additionally, the "Chicken in Garlic Sauce from the Lunch Special Menu," which was requested to be spicier, was also well-received, with the reviewer noting it as "yummy" and expressing appreciation for the "house Chili Oil." This suggests that Mandarin Court is willing to accommodate spice preferences and has flavorful house-made condiments that enhance their Chinese dishes. The availability of a Lunch Special Menu also indicates potential value and variety for midday dining.
For local users in the Dumfries, VA area, Mandarin Court offers a unique opportunity to enjoy both Chinese and Japanese cuisine under one roof. Customer Reviews
This spot is doing Chinese and Japanese cuisine, and I tried to try a bit of both to see what it was all about. The owner was very friendly, and was the one making the sushi. The sushi was interesting, the California Roll was simple, basic, however the rice was definitely a bit more on the mushy side, over cooked for sure. The Spider Roll was very different that what I'm used to as it had a large Romaine Lettuce leaf incorporated into the roll. I always like to try new things, but not sure if it worked... The Chicken Corn Soup w/ the crispy Wontons and Sweet & Sour Sauce were exceptionally delicious. I also ordered Chicken in Garlic Sauce from the Lunch Special Menu, and requested it to be a bit spicier. Oh that was yummy, as I loved their house Chili Oil as well.
Incredibly delicious & amazing food! I highly recommend this family owned business! The owner & staff are super sweet & were happy to answer any questions about the menu. The choice of Chinese & Japanese cuisine is a great combination & pleases both my husband & I, he orders Chinese & I order sushi! The spicy salmon rolls are addicting & I could eat those forever! The sushi is fresh, beautifully made, & worth the price!
This is the BEST local Chinese food in the area. I have Celiac Disease so it is incredibly difficult for me to find places near by that offer Gluten Free options. This place goes above and beyond every time. As someone with celiac, cross contamination can make me severely sick and I haven't had to ever worry about this place getting it right. They are extremely detailed and attentive and the service is out of this world. They are so kind, polite, and extremely generous. We love this place so much and the people who work there. I'm not sure if they do this on purpose but every soy sauce packet we receive in our order has a little panda doing a different activity on each one, we never receive any duplicates. It's the cutest & funniest part we look forward to every-time we place an order. Inside the restaurant, it's very clean and inviting. Lots of seating arrangements. Eventually, we would like to come in and eat here but with it being so cold outside, we love just having the ability to place an online order from home and have it delivered. They seriously are the very best!
Amazing little place! Tasty food for amazing prices. We got two rolls of sushi, two soups, hunan chicken, fried rice, and a diet coke for less than $20 AFTER taxes! This was off the lunch menu, so I’m not sure of the dinner prices. The food came out so fast and the service was great. The sushi was really good. I especially like the dynamite roll. I definitely recommend. You get huge bang for your buck.
I ordered 2 sushi rolls and teriyaki chicken. All items were over cooked, and had no taste. Worst sushi ever and I have no idea who makes teriyaki chicken this bad. Disgusting food. Very disappointed.
