About Makotos Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi

Makotos Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi, located at 785 S Babcock St Space 4 in Melbourne, Florida, is presented under the platform category of Chinese Restaurant. However, customer reviews indicate it is a Japanese restaurant specializing in steakhouse-style cooking, particularly hibachi, as well as sushi.

Environment: One reviewer described the atmosphere as "ok, nothing to brag about," suggesting a casual and perhaps not particularly distinctive ambiance. Another review mentions "the aspect of theater," which is characteristic of hibachi dining where food is cooked at a communal table with entertainment, noting that this can interfere with intimacy, making it potentially less ideal for a date.

Services: Service experiences appear to be generally positive. One customer described the service as "perfect," noting the clarity of explanations provided. Another reviewer mentioned the service was "timely and polite." However, one instance of food being served cold was reported, although the server offered to warm it up.

Features: Makotos offers a combination of Japanese steakhouse and sushi options. The nigiri sushi (tuna and salmon) was highlighted as delicious, served with raw Wasabi and ginger. The house salad with ginger dressing was noted for being crisp. The Miso soup, while good, is mentioned to be chicken broth-based. The filet mignon was described as good and is served with sweet carrots and fried rice. The portions are reported to be filling, often resulting in leftovers. The hibachi-style cooking provides an element of "theater" during the dining experience.

Promotional Information: Based on the provided reviews, there is no specific promotional information. However, the positive feedback on the quality of the sushi (nigiri), filet mignon, and the overall filling nature of the meals could be seen as a draw for potential customers. The unique aspect of hibachi-style cooking as a form of entertainment might also attract those looking for a more interactive dining experience, although it's cautioned as potentially less suitable for intimate dates.

If you are in the Melbourne, FL area and looking for a Japanese restaurant offering hibachi-style steakhouse dishes and sushi, Makotos Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi is an option to consider. While the atmosphere is described as just okay and the hibachi style may not be ideal for all occasions, the food quality, particularly the sushi and steak, along with generally good service, seems to be a positive aspect. The food was cold, and I informed the service girl. She offered to warm it up, but I declined. Service was perfect she was very clear at the moment she explained all the questions. Atmosphere was ok, nothing to brag about. Just ok.

I've never had a bad experience at this Makoto's. The aspect of theater can interfere with intimacy, but that's the point. The food is always very good. The nigiri sushi (tuna, salmon) was delicious, with raw Wasabi and ginger. The house salad with ginger dressing was crisp. The Miso soup is good, but it's chicken broth. The filet mignon was good with sweet carrots and good fried rice. It's very filling and I always end up taking part of my meal home. The service was timely and polite. I recommend it though not for a date.

We've been to Makotos before but had a bad experience. After our salads were served we waited 38 minutes before an inexperienced came and tried to cook. Some food was burned other food a little uncooked. Found some wax paper in the rice. We almost left after the salads were served and wish we had. There was no explanation why it took so long to get our food cooked. I really blame the management. The servers did their best and did receive their 20% tip. The Hooki shrimp was not very good. It had a red sauce tasted like ketchup. Fried rice was too salty. Sometimes I ask for low salt but some cooks have seasoned it correctly in the past.

First time at Makotos. My party of 4 walked in at 7pm and the hostess says “How may I help you?” How may you help me? LOL, Really! How about saying: Good Evening, welcome to Makotos. How many in your party this evening? Would you like teppanyaki or the sushi bar? The young lady needs front of house customer engagement training asap. Thank goodness the food, service, and atmosphere made up for the lifeless greeting. The only ding in the service was that our party was never asked if we wanted dessert, and we did want dessert. The description of the pineapple cake sounded tasty. Oh well, Maybe next time.

Interesting experience; pretty much the only patrons in the place for quite a while at 5pm. We sat in the first room to the left where the sushi bar was, and our server was good but odd. He kept coming over every few minutes and asking us if we were ready and there's no rush, but we needed more time and would return a minute or two later and again, "no rush," but it felt like we were being rushed. Just kind of odd. Sushi was very good and flavorful; the ginger salad was way too loaded with dressing, and it was unbearable at the bottom; the soup had a funky taste and was very small. Filet Migon teppanyaki was very tasty and was a decent portion. The entrees were much better than the starters; the service was a little odd but still good. Overall, I would try here again for the lunch special; maybe take out for dinner next time.
