About Main Moon

Main Moon is a Chinese restaurant located at 909 W Vernon Ave in Kinston, North Carolina (zip code 28501). They can be contacted at (252) 527-9600 or via their mobile number +1 252-527-9600. As a "Chinese Restaurant" serving the Kinston area, Main Moon would traditionally offer a range of Chinese-American dishes and related services, potentially including both takeout and dine-in options. However, recent customer feedback available online raises significant concerns about the current state of the establishment.

For local residents seeking a Chinese dining option in Kinston, it is essential to consider the most recent customer experiences to gauge the current quality of food and service at Main Moon. The provided reviews indicate a notable decline in customer satisfaction, highlighting issues across various aspects of the dining experience.

One particularly critical review details a severely negative encounter. The customer stated that their order took "over 45 minutes" to be prepared, indicating a potential problem with efficiency in the kitchen or order processing. Furthermore, they described the food as "cooked so much that the flavor was gone," suggesting overcooking that negatively impacted the taste. The texture of the meat was also described in a way that caused concern. Adding to the dissatisfaction, this customer reported a lack of care in the attitudes of the staff they encountered. To compound the negative experience, they did not even receive the correct order, but felt it was not worth the effort to return it. The reviewer concluded by labeling the overall experience as "pitiful" and vowed never to order from Main Moon again.

Another review from a long-time customer expressed disappointment and a sense of decline in the restaurant's standards. This customer specifically addressed the "house fried rice," stating an expectation that it should contain a distributed amount of various meats, consistent with their past experiences at Main Moon over the years. However, their recent $18 order of house fried rice reportedly contained barely any substance other than rice, leading them to feel that they could have ordered a much cheaper side of fried rice for the same result. This reviewer urged Main Moon to "do better," reminding them that they are one of the few remaining Chinese restaurants in Kinston and recalling a time when the restaurant was "fantastic," in stark contrast to their recent "awful" experience.

These two reviews, while limited, paint a concerning picture of Main Moon. They highlight issues with lengthy preparation times, overcooked and potentially low-quality food, order inaccuracies, indifferent staff attitudes, and a perceived decline in the quality and value of a signature dish (house fried rice) over time. The feedback suggests that Main Moon may be struggling to maintain the standards that once made it a reputable local Chinese restaurant.

As a Chinese restaurant, Main Moon would typically be expected to offer a range of standard Chinese-American dishes, which might include:

  • Appetizers: Such as spring rolls, egg rolls, dumplings, and crab Rangoon.
  • Soups: Common options include wonton soup, egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup.
  • Main Entrees: A variety of dishes featuring chicken, beef, pork, and seafood, prepared with different sauces and vegetables.
  • Rice Dishes: Including various forms of fried rice, with "house fried rice" being specifically mentioned in a negative context, as well as white rice and brown rice.
  • Noodle Dishes: Such as lo mein and chow mein.
  • Vegetable Dishes: A selection of vegetable-based dishes for vegetarian customers or as side options.

The provided information does not offer any details about the environment or ambiance of Main Moon. The focus of the negative reviews is primarily on the food quality, service efficiency, and order accuracy, rather than the physical space of the restaurant. It is unclear from this information whether Main Moon emphasizes dine-in service or primarily functions as a takeout establishment.

Similarly, there is no promotional information included in the provided text. Local Chinese restaurants sometimes offer lunch specials, combination meals, or discounts for certain order amounts or days of the week. Without any mention of such offers in the reviews, we cannot comment on whether Main Moon currently provides any promotional incentives. Residents interested in potential deals should inquire directly with the restaurant.

In conclusion, recent customer feedback for Main Moon in Kinston, NC, indicates significant concerns regarding food quality, preparation, service, and value. Customers have reported lengthy wait times, overcooked and unappetizing food, order errors, and a perceived decline in the quality of previously favored dishes like the house fried rice. The negative attitudes of the staff were also mentioned as a point of dissatisfaction. For local residents seeking a Chinese dining option, these recent reviews suggest a need for caution and consideration of alternative establishments in the area. Given the critical nature of the feedback, potential customers may want to inquire about the restaurant's current standards and practices before placing an order or visiting. For the most current information on their menu, services (dine-in or takeout), and any potential changes in quality or service, it is recommended to contact Main Moon directly at (252) 527-9600 or +1 252-527-9600.

This is the last time I order anything from Main Moon. The food took over 45 minutes, and was cooked so much that the flavor was gone, the texture of meat was ... Well makes you wonder. The attitudes were like they didn't half give a care. I didn't even get what I actually ordered but who's going to take it all the way back to town. The overall experience, was just pitiful! Never again! Ever!!

When you order house fried rice it should come with all the meats in a distributable fashion like it always has. And I’m talking about this specific restaurant which I’ve been coming to for years. This last order was 18 dollars and we barely had any substance other than the rice. Could have ordered a side of fried rice for a few bucks and got the same meal. Do better next time. You are one of the few Chinese restaurants left in Kinston and I remember when you guys were fantastic. But this was awful.

Overall, not a bad spot, and it's in a pretty convenient location: nothing impressive, but not bad. However, I didn't call ahead of time, which resulted in a wait that I think was about half an hour, and thus would recommend to others that they don't make the same mistake that I did in just going there without calling ahead. Aside from that, my only caution is that the drive-thru (while the only means to order anything from them right now) might be a little small for the liking of some people, and wanted to let you know about that now. As for the food itself, it was pretty sizeable for the little over $7.00 that I had spent on it. It was good - nothing impressive, but not bad either. There's a good chance that (Lord willing) I'll come back here again in the future, and would recommend others to visit this place as well.

Dumplings are delicious but I do not recommend ordering the Chicken Fried Rice. There was only a few small scraps of slimy chicken. In my experience, fried rice usually has some veggies in it, a scrambled egg, and a good portion of chicken. This was 98% yellow rice.

The food is good when they get it right. When they mess up your order they won't care. Terrible customer service
