Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Mai Wah Restaurant appear to be varied. One customer shared a particularly negative experience, detailing an initial order of orange chicken, Szechwan chicken, and pork fried rice. According to this review, the pork fried rice tasted as though it had been refrigerated for an extended period, and the chicken dishes were described as "soggy and disgusting." Following this unsatisfactory experience, the customer contacted the restaurant to request a refund but was offered a remake instead. Opting to try two different dishes suggested by the staff member on the phone, the customer reported further disappointment. The beef dish was described as being predominantly vegetables with chewy and tough beef, while the chicken dish contained an excessive amount of onions, rendering it inedible for the reviewer. This customer concluded their review with strong dissatisfaction, stating, "This is bad. They need to figure it out. Never eating here again." This feedback highlights significant concerns regarding the quality and preparation of certain dishes.
Another customer shared a perspective that included a historical comparison. This reviewer noted that the food quality was not as high as it was in the 1980s when they used to frequent the establishment, stating that it was merely "ok" on their recent visit. In contrast to the negative feedback on the food from the previous reviewer, this customer found the service to be "great." However, their description of the atmosphere was quite specific, characterizing it as a "total pool bar." They also mentioned that while the location remained the same, the ambiance had changed significantly from what they remembered.
Considering these two recent reviews, it's important for potential customers to be aware of the contrasting experiences. One review raises serious concerns about the food quality across multiple dishes, while the other suggests a decline in food quality compared to the past but praises the service and notes a distinct "pool bar" atmosphere. The environment seems to have transitioned significantly, at least according to one long-time patron.
Given the limited information available in these reviews, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the environment, services, and features of Mai Wah Restaurant. The mention of a "total pool bar" atmosphere suggests that the restaurant may have integrated or transitioned into a space that heavily features pool or billiard activities, potentially influencing the overall dining ambiance. This could be a unique feature for those who enjoy playing pool while dining or having a drink.
The services offered appear to include dine-in, as both reviewers seem to have experienced food prepared and served by the restaurant. The first reviewer's attempt to address their dissatisfaction with the staff over the phone indicates that customer service is available, although the resolution offered was a remake rather than a refund. The second reviewer's positive comment about the service suggests that, at least in some instances, the staff is attentive and provides a good experience.
Features of Mai Wah Restaurant, based on the reviews, seem to include a menu with a variety of Chinese dishes, as evidenced by the orders of orange chicken, Szechwan chicken, pork fried rice, a beef dish, and a chicken dish with onions. The presence of a "pool bar" atmosphere could be considered a unique feature, potentially attracting a different clientele or offering a dual-purpose venue for dining and recreation.
Currently, there is no information available in the provided reviews regarding any promotional offers or specials at Mai Wah Restaurant. Local users interested in learning about potential discounts, lunch specials, or other promotions are advised to contact the restaurant directly at (503) 659-0323 or visit their location at 18088 SE McLoughlin Blvd, Portland, OR 97267, USA, to inquire.
In summary, Mai Wah Restaurant in Portland presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While one reviewer experienced significant issues with the food quality across multiple dishes and was dissatisfied with the resolution offered, another found the service to be great but noted a decline in food quality compared to the past and described the atmosphere as a "total pool bar." The environment seems to have evolved, potentially offering a unique dining experience combined with pool activities. Services include dine-in, and customer service is available. However, potential customers should be aware of the recent feedback regarding food quality when making their decision. For those interested in the specific menu, current promotions, or the nature of the "pool bar" atmosphere, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

First time I ordered orange chicken and Szechwan chicken as well as pork fried rice. The rice tastes like it had been sitting in a fridge for days and the chicken was soggy and disgusting. I called to see if I could get my mo eh back and they said no but I could have it remade. I ended up ordering two other dishes suggested by the woman who answered the phone and to my disappointment the food again is DISGUSTING. The beef dish is mostly veggies and the beef is chewy and tough. The chicken dish has so many onions in it I can’t even eat it. This is bad. They need to figure it out. Never eating here again
Food was not as good as it was back in the 80s when we used to eat there. It was “ok”. Service was great. Atmosphere was a total pool bar. Didn’t look the same at all but it was in the same location.
DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! The store has a nasty store front and very bad first impressions when you go in. Menu is Inaccurate, family diner's price did not say per person like it should so it was misleading. The egg roll we got tasted stale and was extremely hard and crusted. The meat you got was 33% meat and 67% breading and the pork dried out faster than a dessert in a drought. When I got pork noodles, I didn't expect them to add in cambols chicken noodle soup with a side of disappointment. I wonder how this place passed health and safety inspections.
I ordered through UberEats and they forgot my fried rice order. The roll of the egg roll was way too thick and doughy. The pot stickers have a strange after taste and the friend wontons were not what I thought I was ordering (no stuffing inside) I ordered with several co-workers and everyone agreed that it was not a place we would ever order from again. 😬 also, when I called to ask for Spivey sauce or seasoning to be in the bag because their menu on UberEats does not give you an option to have it. The lady got an attitude before she hung up the phone. 🤷🏽♀️ I do not recommend this place
First time getting food here in a long time! Decided to do Chinese food for Christmas Eve Dinner! We used to eat here in from early 90s until around 2011 probably 1-4 times per month. then from 2011 to 2019 was only able to come once every 3 months since I moved to WA. Today was the first time since around 2019! We always did dine in or take out probably 50/50 in the dining side. This place has changed a lot and not for the better.. The old bar side is closed and now the restaurant side is the bar! It is loud music and not peaceful like before... The food that was once awesome for decades is now Meh.. Our family always get family style with a mix of items but the must have was the General Tso Chicken. It used to be the best cause they don't use the traditional red sauce it is more a brown sauce. What used to make it great was the chicken had a nice glaze with a crispy texture. At least up until 2019. Since I have not been here in about 5 years something happened and changed. Now the General Tso has a slightly different flavor, the chicken is not crispy and not really a glaze it is just a ton of sauce pured on so all you taste is sauce and mushy chicken.. We also got other items that were again similar but just not as good as they used to me. Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs same issue seems like lower grade pork, Sauce is slightly different taste but still has the same unique color? I don't think we will ever come back cause this just kind of killed the Christmas eve Dinner..
