About Magic Wok Chinese Restaurant

Magic Wok Chinese Restaurant, located at 701 S Roan St in Johnson City, Tennessee, serves as a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, offering a diverse culinary experience to the community. According to recent customer feedback, Magic Wok provides both delivery and dine-in services, catering to different dining preferences. A notable feature highlighted by a patron is the availability of both an Americanized Chinese menu and an authentic Chinese menu, suggesting a commitment to serving a wide range of tastes and preferences.

One customer who opted for delivery reported a significantly negative experience. This reviewer stated they would have given zero stars if possible, expressing extreme dissatisfaction with their order. They described the chicken and broccoli as lacking any sauce and the lo mein as consisting of mushy pasta noodles devoid of sauce or flavor. This feedback points to a potential issue with the quality and preparation of certain dishes for delivery orders, indicating a lack of attention to detail that resulted in a disappointing meal for this particular customer.

In stark contrast, another customer shared a highly positive experience from their dine-in visit. They described having a "fantastic time," noting a "nice dim atmosphere" that contributed to a pleasant dining environment. This suggests that the ambiance of the restaurant for dine-in customers is a positive aspect. Furthermore, this reviewer praised the food, highlighting the availability of both Americanized and authentic Chinese menus. From the authentic menu, they ordered honey chicken, chicken with scallion and chilli, and custard buns, all of which they found to be "delicious." The total cost for two entrees and an appetizer was $40, which they seemed to find reasonable. This positive review also specifically commended their waitress, Marina, as "incredible and very sweet," indicating excellent customer service during their dine-in experience. This customer enthusiastically recommended a visit and stated their intention to return.

The contrasting reviews paint a picture of potentially inconsistent experiences depending on whether one chooses delivery or dine-in. The delivery experience described was severely negative, focusing on the poor quality and lack of flavor in the dishes. On the other hand, the dine-in experience was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting a pleasant atmosphere, delicious food from the authentic menu, and exceptional service from the waitress.

The presence of both an Americanized and an authentic Chinese menu is a significant feature of Magic Wok. This dual offering allows the restaurant to cater to a broader audience, providing familiar dishes that are typically adapted for American palates alongside more traditional and potentially less common Chinese culinary options. The positive feedback regarding the dishes ordered from the authentic menu (honey chicken, chicken with scallion and chilli, and custard buns) suggests that those looking for a more genuine Chinese dining experience might find satisfying choices here.

The mention of a "nice dim atmosphere" suggests that the dine-in environment at Magic Wok aims for a comfortable and perhaps slightly more intimate setting. This could be appealing to those looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a meal. The positive feedback about the waitress, Marina, indicates that at least some members of the service staff are attentive and friendly, contributing to a positive overall dining experience for some patrons.

I would give zero stars if possible. Ordered delivery and this is how I received my food. My chicken and broccoli has NO sauce and my lo mein was mushy pasta noodles with no sauce or flavor.

We had a fantastic time dining in. Nice dim atmosphere. Food was great. They have an Americanized menu and an authentic Chinese menu. We ordered honey chicken, chicken with scallion and chilli, and custard buns from the authentic menu. $40 for 2 entrees and an appetizer. All delicious. Our waitress Marina was an incredible and very sweet. Would recommend a visit. We will be back.

Despite the location being a little rough around the edges, do not let that deter you from the gem of a restaurant inside! You know a place is going to be good when they have a separate menu for more "authentic" dining. We tried a huge array of foods: Scallion pancakes, egg drop soup, custard buns, shrimp dumplings, Sesame tofu, beef with sezchuan spices, and even Thai teas to drink! Everything came out fresh and had amazing flavor. Marina was our server and she was very attentive and had a great personality. Even the cook came out and said hello and checked on the food qaulity, and to see how everyone in the restaurant that evening was enjoying their dinner. Definitely recommend if your looking for more authentic Chinese food options in the area! We will be back!!!

Delicious food, warm friendly staff ensuring all of your dining needs are met. Excellent portions for pricing. Their boba teas are awesome too. Definitely a return with friends spot.

I’m really impressed with the food here! As an Asian, I really enjoyed their authentic menu options. My partner and I just moved here from Texas and were worried the food would be very Americanized. Thankfully, they have two menus: one for authentic Chinese food and one for Americanized Chinese food. The manager was incredibly welcoming and recommended things to do and other places to eat. Highly recommend this place! I ordered the Shiang La Fish Fillet and my partner ordered the Sesame Chicken
