Situated on a well-known thoroughfare, Madison Cuisine offers a range of American-style Chinese dishes, catering to those seeking familiar flavors at potentially budget-friendly prices. When considering a local Chinese restaurant, especially one in a bustling area like University Avenue, it's helpful to take into account the experiences shared by other customers. Online reviews can offer insights into the quality of the food, the level of service, and any particular features or drawbacks that might influence your decision. Examining a range of feedback can provide a more balanced perspective.
Based on the customer reviews available for Madison Cuisine, there appear to be mixed opinions regarding the overall experience. One reviewer recounts ordering right before closing time and notes that while the food was "still decent," it was definitely in the style of "American Chinese food with a ton of oil." This suggests that the cuisine might be heavier and oilier than some might prefer. The reviewer did mention liking the coconut shrimp and peanut chicken, noting that the peanut chicken had a "very light flavor of peanut." However, they reiterated that "everything was very oily." This individual also reported a below-average customer service experience, citing an issue with debit card processing that was unresolved, leading them to pay in cash. Furthermore, they expressed dissatisfaction with the portion distribution in their order, receiving a significantly larger amount of lo mein compared to the two entrees. Ultimately, this reviewer was "not super impressed" and recommended trying other Chinese American restaurants in Madison over this one.
Another reviewer had a more positive experience with the food, stating that "The food here is real good." However, they noted a potential limitation: depending on how late in the day one visits, the choices might become limited because the kitchen may not be willing to prepare fresh batches. This led to a four-star rating rather than a higher one. Despite this, the reviewer described Madison Cuisine as a "good cheap Chinese place" and specifically recommended the Mei Fun noodles and the Honey Chicken. This suggests that these dishes might be particular strengths of the restaurant and that the affordability is a significant draw for some customers.
Considering these reviews, Madison Cuisine seems to be a Chinese restaurant that offers American-style dishes at a potentially lower price point, which might appeal to budget-conscious diners, especially given its proximity to the university. However, there are concerns raised about the oiliness of the food, potential inconsistencies in portioning, and possibly below-average customer service. On the other hand, the Mei Fun noodles and Honey Chicken are highlighted as good options, and the overall taste of the food is acknowledged as "real good" by one reviewer, albeit with caveats about late-day availability.
As a Chinese restaurant specializing in American-style cuisine, Madison Cuisine likely offers a familiar menu of popular dishes such as General Tso's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, various lo mein and fried rice options, and a selection of seafood, beef, and vegetable dishes prepared with common American-Chinese sauces. The specific mentions of coconut shrimp, peanut chicken, Mei Fun noodles, and honey chicken indicate some of their offerings. Mei Fun noodles are thin rice noodles, often stir-fried with vegetables and protein. Honey chicken is typically a crispy fried chicken dish coated in a sweet honey-based sauce.
Given its location on University Avenue, it's plausible that Madison Cuisine caters to a diverse clientele, including students, faculty, and local residents looking for a quick and affordable meal. The mention of it being a "college basement restaurant" in another review (for a different establishment on the same avenue) might suggest a casual and no-frills environment focused on functionality and value rather than elaborate ambiance. However, without specific details about Madison Cuisine's environment, this is speculative.
For local users in Madison, particularly those near the university seeking a budget-friendly Chinese meal, Madison Cuisine might be worth considering, especially if the Mei Fun noodles or Honey Chicken appeal to you. However, it's important to be aware of the potential for oily food, possible limitations on menu availability later in the day, and the reported issues with customer service and order accuracy. If these are significant concerns, exploring other Chinese American restaurants in the area, as suggested by one reviewer, might be a prudent approach.
To obtain more detailed information about Madison Cuisine's menu, services (dine-in, carry out, delivery), hours of operation, and any potential daily specials or promotions, it would be best to try and contact them directly. As their phone number was not provided in the initial information, you might need to search online for their contact details.
In conclusion, Madison Cuisine on University Avenue in Madison appears to be a Chinese restaurant that offers American-style dishes at a potentially affordable price point. While some customers have found the food to be good, with specific recommendations for the Mei Fun noodles and Honey Chicken, there are also concerns about the oiliness of the food, potential limitations in menu availability later in the day, and reports of below-average customer service and issues with order accuracy. For those prioritizing budget and convenience, it might be an option to consider, but it would be wise to weigh these factors against the experiences of other diners and perhaps try a recommended dish to assess its suitability to your preferences.

Ordered right before closing, but the food was still decent. Definitely American Chinese food with a ton of oil. I liked the coconut shrimp and peanut chicken. The peanut chicken has a very light flavor of peanut. Again, everything was very oily. Customer service was below average. They couldn't get my debit card to process. Just paid with cash. They gave me 85% lo mein and 15% of the two entrees. Not super impressed. I would recommend trying other Chinese American Madison restaurants over this one.
The food here is real good, but depending on how late you go the choices start to get pretty limited because they aren't willing to make another batch (hence the four star rating). Otherwise it's a good cheap Chinese place. I'd recommend the Mei Fun noodles and the Honey Chicken.
Reasonably priced - however unremarkable - prepared food. I told the owner "the price is good; I'll be back." The wide variety of dishes to choose from and the ability to experience two entrees at a time earns this restaurant an extra star. I appreciate being able to enjoy a vegetable-heavy dish along side my protein, and the availability of fish or shrimp as options (especially for the
Food choices seemed limited by mid-evening, lighting somehow was dim yet garish and the sagging Styrofoam platters with teeny-tiny plastic forks completed the "cheap eats" ambiance. Still, the eats were palatable enough to pass and the place proved convenient when most places in the neighborhood were closed for a major holiday.
There is plenty of seating and restaurant is clean, However, customer service is poor and food could taste better. I recommend going to QQ instead. Edit: I felt so uncomfortable watching a homeless person go through your trash bins for food and no employees doing anything about it!! Please A) offer the homeless person some food or B) ask them to leave!
