About Lunasia Dim Sum House

Located at 500 W Main St in Alhambra, California, Lunasia Dim Sum House has established itself as a premier destination for authentic and delectable dim sum within the San Gabriel Valley (SGV). While categorized as a Chinese restaurant specializing in dim sum, its commitment to quality, variety, and a modern dining experience positions it as a standout Asian culinary gem in the Alhambra area. The dining space at Lunasia Dim Sum House is described as "modern and always bustling," indicating a contemporary and vibrant atmosphere. The popularity of the restaurant suggests a lively environment, often filled with patrons eager to enjoy their extensive dim sum offerings. While the bustling nature implies potential crowds, especially during peak hours, one reviewer notes that timing a visit correctly can allow guests to "skip the crowd." This suggests that while Lunasia is a popular spot, particularly on weekends where "a long line" is expected, weekday visits, such as a Monday lunchtime when one reviewer experienced "zero wait," can offer a more relaxed entry. To manage potential wait times, especially on busy days, Lunasia Dim Sum House utilizes a Yelp waitlist system, which allows customers to plan ahead and potentially shorten their on-site waiting period.

The service at Lunasia Dim Sum House is lauded for being "quick and efficient," ensuring that dishes are served promptly and hot. The attentive staff contributes to a "wonderful dining experience," as highlighted by one reviewer who described the overall ambiance as lively. This focus on efficient service is crucial for a dim sum experience, where a steady stream of small plates is often desired. The positive comments regarding service suggest that despite the restaurant's popularity and bustling environment, the staff remains dedicated to providing a smooth and enjoyable meal for their guests.

Lunasia Dim Sum House is celebrated for both the "quality and variety" of its dim sum. The menu is described as "impressive," with each dish appearing to be "carefully crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients." Customers have raved about several specific items, providing detailed descriptions of their experiences. The "Spinach Shrimp Dumpling" features a "translucent wrapper, juicy shrimp, and fresh spinach," characterized as "clean, light, and flavorful." The "Shrimp Cheung Fun" consists of "smooth rice noodles wrapped around tender shrimp with a soy sauce on the side," a classic and comforting dish. The "Beef Balls" are noted for being "springy and savory," served with vegetables and Worcestershire sauce on the side.

One of the standout items appears to be the "Bolo Bun (Pineapple Bun) with BBQ Pork," which is described as hitting "all the marks" with its "crunchy, golden topping," "warm, soft bread," and "rich, sweet-savory BBQ pork filling." The textures of this bun are particularly praised as "unbeatable." For those with a sweet tooth, the "Mala Cake (Cantonese Brown Sugar Cake)" is a "soft, spongy and sweet" option. Beyond these specific mentions, the restaurant's commitment to quality is further emphasized by the description of their shrimp dumplings (har gow) as "plump and perfectly steamed" and their siu mai as "savory and satisfying." The "crispy shrimp rolls and egg tarts" are also recommended as "must-tries," showcasing a "delicate balance of textures and flavors." The generous sizing of the dumplings is another positive aspect highlighted by reviewers.

One of the best Dim Sum in SGV. This Alhambra favorite lives up to the hype with both quality and variety. The dining space is modern and always bustling, but if you time it right, you can skip the crowd. We came on a Monday at 12:30pm, zero wait, walked right in. Weekends, though? Be ready for a long line. Fortunately, they use a Yelp waitlist, which makes the wait a bit easier to manage if you're planning ahead. We ordered 5 dim sum today: Spinach Shrimp Dumpling: Translucent wrapper, juicy shrimp, and fresh spinach. Clean, light, and flavorful. Shrimp Cheung Fun: Smooth rice noodles wrapped around tender shrimp with a soy sauce on the side classic and comforting Beef Balls: Springy and savory, served on some veggies with worcestershire sauce on the side Bolo Bun (Pineapple Bun) with BBQ Pork: This one hit all the marks. Crunchy, golden topping with warm, soft bread and a rich, sweet-savory BBQ pork filling. The textures here are unbeatable. Mala Cake (Cantonese Brown Sugar Cake): Soft, spongy and sweet. Service was quick and efficient, and dishes came out hot. Prices lean a bit upscale for dim sum, but the portions and quality more than justify it

The food was delicious and the price was reasonable. But for a dimsum place not to do the cart thing is pretty questionable. We didn't even get a physical menu, everything was done digitally. The servers didn't come by once to refill our tea or ask us how everything was. We had to call them a few times to attend to our needs. Also someone brought their dog (not a service dog!). I love dogs but really? Did you really have to bring your tiny dog to a dimsum place? And the restaurant let it?

On my top 3 list of best dimsum places! Portions are huge and they have an impressive variety. My fav are the Spinach Shrimp Dumplings, Shumai, and they have the best Fried Pork & Shrimp Dumplings. Service is brisk and sometimes it's hard to get a server's attention but they are packed & always busy so it's understandable. There's always a line so make sure to get on the waitlist.

Quick Summary It's one of the most successful Dimsum chains for a reason. Top tier food quality. Up to date ordering system. Parking isn't too bad with the covered lot in the back. Only complaint is they seem a little understaffed for the prices you pay (compared to your average dim sum spot) Food- 5 stars The quality here is nearly unmatched in the SGV area. Order whatever you like and the quality is pretty high end for dim sum Service- 4 stars The phone ordering system is nice to minimize confusion and streamline ordering. However, it does take a while to fetch a waiter for water or sauces Ambiance- 4 stars Nice and modern decor for a dim sum spot. It is pretty crowded though, with tables bunched pretty close together, even at the booths Bottom Line Excellent dim sum quality. However, you are paying a higher price for your standard dim sum restaurant service.
