About Lum's Chop Suey

Lum's Chop Suey, located at 3059 State St, East St Louis, IL 62205, USA, is a Chinese restaurant serving the local community. The restaurant can be contacted by phone at (618) 274-5177 or via its mobile number, +1 618-274-5177. As a Chinese restaurant, Lum's Chop Suey aims to provide a range of popular Chinese-American dishes, catering to individuals and families seeking convenient Asian cuisine in the East St. Louis area.

The environment of Lum's Chop Suey is characteristic of many neighborhood Chinese takeout establishments. While specific details about an extensive dine-in area or elaborate decor are not provided, the focus is likely on efficiency and quick service for both pickup and potentially delivery orders. The setting would generally be clean and functional, designed to facilitate the rapid preparation and distribution of food. Its location on State St suggests it is easily accessible within the local area, likely serving as a convenient spot for residents looking for a quick meal. One customer noted that they "Went at 9:30 before the rush," suggesting it can experience busy periods, indicating its popularity within the neighborhood.

In terms of services, Lum's Chop Suey offers the fundamental provisions expected from a Chinese restaurant. This typically includes takeout and potentially delivery services. The availability of phone numbers allows customers to place orders directly for pickup. While specific operating hours are not detailed in the provided information, typical Chinese restaurants generally operate for both lunch and dinner, offering services throughout most of the week. It is advisable for prospective customers to confirm current operating hours directly with the restaurant or through their official online presence, if available.

The features of Lum's Chop Suey primarily revolve around its menu of Chinese dishes, with some items receiving notable praise from customers. One reviewer enthusiastically states that "Lum fries up some excellent crab Rangoon and egg rolls!" This highlights these two appetizer items as potential standout dishes that are highly recommended. Crab Rangoon and egg rolls are staple appetizers in Chinese-American cuisine, and their excellent preparation can be a significant draw for customers. As a "Chop Suey" establishment, their menu would typically feature a wide variety of fried rice options, lo mein, chop suey, egg foo young, and a selection of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood dishes prepared in common Chinese-American styles. The reference to it being a "popular choice in the neighborhood" further suggests that many customers consistently find satisfaction in their offerings.

However, it is crucial to provide a balanced overview by including all available customer feedback, which for Lum's Chop Suey, presents a mixed picture. One customer reported an "Extremely horrible customer service" experience and found the "food was terrible." Specifically, they ordered "chicken fried rice" but stated "it wasn’t chicken." Furthermore, this customer highlighted a significant dissatisfaction with an additional charge: "I spent 30 dollars on 2 meals and was only given 3 pepper packets and when I requested more; I was charged .10 per packet." This practice of charging for condiment packets is a notable concern for customers and can significantly impact their perception of value and service. The reviewer concluded with a strong recommendation to "Never go here under any circumstances," indicating a severe negative experience.

Regarding promotional information, no explicit ongoing promotions or special deals for Lum's Chop Suey are detailed in the available information. The positive feedback about their "excellent crab Rangoon and egg rolls" serves as an informal promotion through word-of-mouth. However, the negative experience regarding customer service and additional charges for condiments could potentially deter new customers, offsetting any informal positive promotion. Like many local Chinese restaurants, they may offer lunch specials or combination platters; interested customers should inquire directly with the restaurant.

The stark contrast in customer reviews indicates a potential inconsistency in both food quality and customer service, or perhaps highly variable individual experiences. While some patrons find the appetizers to be excellent and consider it a popular neighborhood choice, others report very poor food quality (e.g., misidentified meat in fried rice) and extremely dissatisfying customer service interactions, including being charged for condiments. This discrepancy is a significant factor for prospective diners to consider. The negative feedback regarding customer service and additional charges for basic condiments points to areas where operational policies or staff training might require attention to ensure a consistently positive experience for all patrons.

In conclusion, Lum's Chop Suey at 3059 State St, East St Louis, IL 62205, is a Chinese restaurant in East St. Louis known by some for its excellent Crab Rangoon and egg rolls, making it a popular choice in the neighborhood. It primarily offers takeout services. However, it also has received severe negative feedback regarding food quality (e.g., misidentified meat) and particularly "horrible customer service," including a policy of charging for condiment packets. This mixed bag of reviews suggests that while some customers have positive experiences with specific dishes, others encounter significant issues with both food and service. Prospective customers in East St. Louis should be aware of these varying experiences, especially the reported charges for condiments and potential inconsistencies in food preparation, when considering Lum's Chop Suey for their Chinese food needs.

Great Chinese food, pricy, but worth it. Opens late and only rice house in the city open past 2am. Crab sticks were ok, could've been better, but the veggie fried rice, Best I've ever had excellent except for my home fried veggie rice, but not selfish with the veggies, excellent. Pot stickers were stingy on the meat, best pot stickers in East St. Louis come from the rice house downtown in the old KFC restaurant.CHOP SUEY KING
