About Lucky Pot

Lucky Pot, located at 5005 Steeles Ave E in Scarborough, is a Chinese restaurant known for providing great value on its Cantonese cuisine. Customers have highlighted the affordability of the food, making it an excellent option for family dinners, especially considering the current cost of living.

The restaurant serves typical Cantonese fare, with most dishes prepared to a good standard. While some reviewers note that the "wok hei" (the slightly charred flavor imparted by a hot wok) is acceptable but not exceptional compared to other establishments, the overall taste is considered great for the price.

A significant point mentioned in the reviews is that the menus are primarily in Chinese. This means that individuals who cannot read Chinese may find it challenging to understand the offerings without assistance. It has been suggested that Lucky Pot mainly caters to a Chinese clientele.

Despite the menu language barrier for some, those who can navigate it, or who visit with a Chinese-speaking friend or family member, are encouraged to try Lucky Pot. The restaurant is praised for its affordability and the good taste of its dishes, with the shredded chicken being a particular favorite among some patrons.

Regarding parking, there are limited spaces directly outside the restaurant. However, additional parking is available across the street next to a church. Customers are also advised that menus posted online (from early January 2025) may be subject to changes, particularly after the Lunar Chinese New Year.

If you are looking for an extremely affordable Chinese restaurant in Scarborough serving tasty Cantonese food and don't mind that the menus are mainly in Chinese, Lucky Pot could be a great option, especially for family meals.

Great value deals for food. The food is great at reasonable prices for family dinner. Nowadays, it is very hard to find a restaurant like this one, especially with the increased cost of living. The only downside is that there is limited parking spaces outside the restaurant, but there are more parking spaces across the street next to the church. Please kindly note that the certain menus posted here (taken on 1/4/2025) are subject to changes based on the restaurant, especially after Lunar Chinese New Year.

If you don't know how to read Chinese, forget about it - you won't be able to understand anything on the menus. It's very clear Lucky Pot tends to mostly cater to exclusively Chinese clientele. I had to come with my Chinese girlfriend to understand anything on the menu. Your typical Cantonese fare is served here and most items are done well enough. The quality of the wok hei is okay, making the food not excellent but just great compared to its counterparts like Dong Kee, J&Y or Yu Seafood. If you can come here with a Chinese reading friend/family - try it out. Restaurants like these need to be supported and should be kept around. Extremely affordable and great tasting for the low price. My favorite item was the shredded chicken, but most items are really good.

Very fresh & delicious Cantonese style dishes to share with friends and families. The only thing I remember is that most of the servers don’t speak English - so make sure someone in your group can speak Cantonese or some mandarin at least. The sweat and sour pork/chicken is really good here.

Food was great! But every time we come here, there is a line up. Last time we decided not to wait, this rainy weekday evening, we waited about 15 mins for a table. The staff and service was ok. Not the best, they have that always busy attitude. But they have lots of staff working. The hand shredded chicken was really yummy! Has that chicken jello effect! Super yummy. The crispy pork intestine was really crispy and traditional. The sizzling pot eggplant was flavourful and sizzling hot. The glutinous rice with preserved sausage was also well made! Props to the kitchen ! Also came with free appetizer soup and free desert. Bill was $77 before tip with enough portion left over for 2 lunch boxes. Great value, the food was awesome! Would recommend! And will re-visit on weekdays only.

Really enjoyed this place! It was not too crowded (for a Chinese restaurant), service was fast, and the staff were nice. We did come earlier though, and later on there was a lineup at the door. The food was great, and we got the lobster set meal plus the little hot pot dish in the pictures. The lobster set meal was $88 and included the four dishes plus a small soup at the beginning (not pictured) and a sweet soup/porridge at the end. The set meal alone is a good amount of food for 3-4 people! Good value seafood and definitely worth coming!
