About Lu's Garden
Welcome to Lu's Garden, a Chinese restaurant located at 534E Valley Blvd #12 in San Gabriel, California (zip code 91776). As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Lu's Garden aims to provide local users with a selection of "Asian comfort food." Based on the available customer reviews, Lu's Garden offers a variety of dishes and a unique perk for dine-in customers, while also receiving some feedback regarding portion sizes and value.
One reviewer described Lu's Garden as a provider of "Asian comfort food," suggesting a menu that includes familiar and satisfying dishes from across the Asian culinary spectrum. This broad description implies that the restaurant might offer a range of options beyond traditional Chinese cuisine, potentially including influences from other Asian countries. This variety could be appealing to customers looking for a diverse selection of flavors and comfort-style meals.
A notable feature highlighted by this reviewer is that Lu's Garden offers "unlimited sweet potato porridge for dine-in customers." Sweet potato porridge is a comforting and often complimentary staple in some Asian cuisines, particularly during breakfast or as a light meal. The offering of an unlimited supply for those dining at the restaurant suggests a welcoming and generous approach, potentially adding value to the dine-in experience. This could be a significant draw for customers who enjoy this particular dish and appreciate the all-you-can-eat aspect.
The same reviewer also noted the "friendly service" at Lu's Garden, indicating a positive interaction with the staff. Attentive and friendly service can greatly enhance the overall dining experience, making customers feel welcome and well-cared for.
In a "side note," the reviewer provided information about the lunch specials available at Lu's Garden as of January 2025. They mentioned that lunch is a "better deal" compared to other times, with a 3-item combo priced at $16.95 plus tax, and a 4-item combo available for $21.95. The reviewer pointed out that the restaurant offers the "same food all day," making the lunch specials a more economical option for those looking to sample a variety of dishes at a set price. This information about lunch specials could be valuable for local users seeking a cost-effective way to try Lu's Garden.
However, not all feedback was entirely positive. Another reviewer expressed disappointment with the portion size of their order, describing it as "really underwhelming—barely enough to be filling." They felt that for a similar price, a "freshly made, full plate of food" could be obtained at a "proper restaurant," suggesting that Lu's Garden did not offer good value for money in their experience. This reviewer likened the portion to a "snack rather than a meal" and specifically mentioned a plate with "2 tofu" costing "more than 10 dollars," implying that the quantity did not justify the price.
This contrasting feedback on portion sizes and value is an important consideration for potential customers. While the lunch specials might offer better value through combo deals, individual dishes ordered at other times might be perceived as less substantial for the price. Local users might want to inquire about portion sizes when ordering, especially if value for money is a significant factor in their dining decisions.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the environment and services offered at Lu's Garden, local users are encouraged to contact them directly at (626) 280-5883 or +1 626-280-5883. By calling, potential customers can inquire about the specific types of "Asian comfort food" they offer on their menu, beyond the mention of unlimited sweet potato porridge. Asking about their popular dishes, preparation styles, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant could provide a clearer picture of what to expect.
In terms of services, customers can inquire whether Lu's Garden offers dine-in, takeout, or delivery options. For those interested in dining in, it would be beneficial to understand the seating capacity and the general atmosphere of the restaurant. For those preferring to order food to go or have it delivered, it's important to ask about the ordering process, delivery radius (if applicable), and any associated fees or minimum order amounts.
Given the mention of lunch specials, local users might also want to inquire if Lu's Garden offers any other promotional activities or special deals at different times of the day or for specific occasions. Restaurants often have ongoing promotions that are not always reflected in online reviews, so a direct inquiry is the best way to stay informed about potential cost savings or special menu items.
In conclusion, Lu's Garden in San Gabriel offers a variety of "Asian comfort food" and is notable for its unlimited sweet potato porridge for dine-in customers and friendly service. They also have lunch specials that might provide better value for money. However, some customers have found the regular portion sizes to be underwhelming and not worth the price. Local users are encouraged to contact Lu's Garden directly to explore their menu in detail, inquire about portion sizes, and learn more about their dining options and any current promotions to make an informed decision about their dining experience.

Asian comfort food! Loved the verities and also enjoyed that they offered unlimited sweet potato porridge for dine in customers. Friendly service! Side note: Lunch is a better deal ($16.95+ tax for 3 items combo, $21.95 for 4 items as of Jan, 2025), considering they offer the same food all day
the portion was really underwhelming—barely enough to be filling. For nearly the same price, you can get a freshly made, full plate of food at a proper restaurant. This felt more like a snack than a meal. Not great value for the money. This plate, 2 tofu, more than 10 dollars
This is a black restaurant, small portions and expensive, tastes bad 👎, especially unpalatable. Their waiter even said that if you regret it on Yelp or Google, you will be given a vegetable. 😂😂😂 I am not thinking of writing a fake review for a vegetable, I am writing a real review. Don't come to eat, after eating all the meals, you will find yourself thirsty, there must be drugs 💊 additives in the food, for your own health, be careful!
UPDATED REVIEW FROM MY MOST RECENT VISIT 12/15/24: Came here with my BFF after so long since the last time we came to this area. Immediately, we picked three of our favorite items.. sat down, served the yummy goodies, and we devoured the dinner with full satisfaction! Price has gone up.. for three items and porridge for two, it came up to 64.41 + tip. I mean... the portions were big as always, the taste of their food was just as delicious as I remembered. The service was good! The place was still as neat and well maintained as always! Nothing changes... it's always giving us the familiar "homey" feel to the exact LU'S GARDEN from over two decades ago since I've been here the first time in 2001. We both were stuffed and brought home some leftovers. Highly recommended for anyone who likes or would like to give this place a try. Parking sometimes is hard since the parking lot is small & shared by many other restaurants.
How can you hate such a cute little restaurant like this place? You see elderly people here and the workers themselves remind you of family members. Of course, might be a little bit of a struggle if you don’t speak mandarin, but that’s fine, the workers are very smiley. I loved every dish here, just wish I could’ve tried more. Had to take to-go cause my friend and I ordered too much. Love the porridge, feels so homey.
