About Long Life Vegi House
Located at 1725 University Avenue in Berkeley, California, Long Life Vegi House has been a local favorite since 2012, offering a diverse menu of vegetarian dishes with many options that can also be prepared vegan. As a distinguished establishment in the Vegetarian Restaurant category, Long Life Vegi House caters to those seeking plant-based cuisine in a welcoming and family-oriented setting. The restaurant prides itself on providing delicious food at fair prices, coupled with enthusiastic service.
Long Life Vegi House operates as a local, family-run establishment, which contributes to its warm and personal atmosphere. This "mom and pop spot" has garnered a loyal following over the years, with customers appreciating its consistent quality and friendly service. The restaurant has recently moved to a new facility, which has been described by patrons as "squeaky clean," indicating a commitment to maintaining a pleasant and hygienic dining environment for their guests.
A significant highlight of Long Life Vegi House is its highly regarded lunch special, priced at $15. This special includes a serving of their delicious hot and sour soup, a crispy spring roll, and a generous plate of their flavorful vegetarian food. This combination offers excellent value and a satisfying meal, making it one of the best lunch deals in the Bay Area according to a long-time customer.
Among the many vegetarian options available, the broccoli "chicken" with added mushrooms in spicy garlic sauce stands out as a particularly popular and highly recommended dish. This creative and flavorful preparation showcases the restaurant's ability to transform plant-based ingredients into satisfying and tasty meals that even long-time patrons consistently order. The "chicken" is likely a plant-based substitute, expertly cooked and combined with broccoli and mushrooms in a savory and spicy garlic sauce.
A key feature of Long Life Vegi House is its commitment to accommodating various dietary preferences. The menu is entirely vegetarian, and many dishes can be made vegan upon request. This inclusivity ensures that individuals following different plant-based diets can find appealing and delicious options. This flexibility is a significant advantage for the restaurant, catering to a growing segment of health-conscious and ethically-minded diners in the Berkeley area.
The service at Long Life Vegi House is consistently described as family run with pride and enthusiastic service. This suggests a genuine dedication to customer satisfaction and a welcoming environment where diners feel valued. The pride in their food and service likely translates to a positive dining experience for everyone who visits.
It is worth noting that Long Life Vegi House embraces a casual dining approach. As one reviewer mentioned, "Paper plates, not trying to be Chez Panisse." This indicates that the focus is on the quality and taste of the food and the warmth of the service, rather than elaborate presentation or a formal setting. This unpretentious atmosphere likely contributes to the restaurant's appeal as a comfortable and accessible local eatery.
The pricing at Long Life Vegi House is considered very fair, especially given the quality and portion sizes, particularly the generous lunch special. This affordability makes it an attractive option for students, local residents, and anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying vegetarian or vegan meal without breaking the bank.
For those planning to visit, the restaurant offers street parking. However, one reviewer advises to "Look for address, sign in front is small," suggesting that the signage might not be prominently displayed. Therefore, new visitors should pay close attention to the street number to ensure they locate the restaurant easily.
The sentiment expressed by a long-time customer, "I love these family run ethnic restaurants," resonates with the overall positive feedback. Long Life Vegi House embodies the charm and authenticity of a local ethnic eatery, providing not only delicious food but also a sense of community and personal connection.
In conclusion, Long Life Vegi House offers a compelling dining experience for those seeking vegetarian and vegan cuisine in Berkeley. With its affordable and highly praised lunch specials, delicious and customizable dishes like the broccoli "chicken" in spicy garlic sauce, a clean and welcoming environment, and enthusiastic family-run service, it has established itself as a beloved local gem. Despite its unassuming presentation, the quality of the food and the warmth of the service speak volumes, making it a must-try for anyone in the area looking for flavorful plant-based options.

I’ve been a big fan of Long Life since 2012. Local mom and pop spot with one of the best lunch specials in the Bay—$15 for delicious hot and sour soup, spring roll, and a huge plate of delicious vegetarian food. My go-to is the broccoli “chicken” add mushrooms in spicy garlic sauce. Sooo tasty.
All vegetarian, can be made vegan. Squeaky clean new facility, family run with pride and enthusiastic service. Paper plates, not trying to be Chez Panisse. Very fair prices. Street parking. Look for address, sign in front is small. I love these family run ethnic restaurants. Went to old location for decades.
I've been dining at this restaurant for over 30 years! From the very first time, their creative veggie dishes have always surprised & delighted me. Way back then, Long Life Veggie was a pioneer in creating delicious veggie alternatives to traditional "meat" dishes..and now there are many restaurants copying their successes. Long Life Veggie is still a gem, with consistently good & "happy" food, pleasant service in their no frills atmosphere. Worth going out of your way for. Long live "Long Life Veggie House! I'll be back again soon!
Greeted by the kindness of the lady at the front, I found solace in the restaurant's convenient location. During my recent visit, I indulged in the Hot and Sour Soup, a culinary revelation that surpassed all expectations. Each spoonful danced upon my palate, evoking sensations of warmth and delight. In this culinary oasis, every detail resonates with excellence, inviting patrons on a journey of taste and discovery.
Vegetarian/vegan dishes. I usually get the spring rolls and the shrimp with green beans. Both are always delicious. Usually a serving of Hot and sour soup comes with lunch orders. The Hot and sour soup has always been very tasty to me. It's all very good.
