About Lobster Wok

Welcome to Lobster Wok, a Chinese restaurant located at 10 Austin St #1820, Newton, MA 02460, USA. While appearing to be a small establishment, Lobster Wok offers a unique and potentially surprising experience within the Chinese Restaurant category.

Based on a detailed customer review, Lobster Wok distinguishes itself through its exceptional hospitality and a strong sense of community. One reviewer initially had low expectations but was profoundly touched by the personal interaction and welcoming nature of the staff, particularly one individual who spent nearly an hour conversing and making them feel at home. This suggests a deeply ingrained cultural approach to customer service that goes beyond typical expectations.

A notable feature of Lobster Wok is its connection to a sense of "Chinatown outside Chinatown," emphasizing its authentic cultural roots. The reviewer also mentioned that the restaurant sometimes purchases produce on behalf of their customers at close to cost price, indicating a dedication to providing fresh ingredients and potentially a personalized service.

Intriguingly, the posted menu may only be a starting point. The reviewer was invited to a private chat group for daily cuisine specials, suggesting a hidden menu catering to those seeking more authentic and perhaps off-the-menu "home-style" dishes. This hints at a deeper level of culinary offerings beyond the standard fare.

While one specific dish, General Gau, was praised as excellent, the reviewer had mixed experiences with other items like the Rangoons and a pork dish in the rice. This suggests that while there are culinary strengths, consistency across all dishes might vary.

Overall, Lobster Wok appears to offer a unique experience centered around exceptional hospitality, a strong sense of community, and the potential for discovering authentic, off-menu Chinese cuisine. For those who approach with respect and genuine interest, Lobster Wok might offer a truly memorable and personalized dining journey. Trust me, I didn't expect much when I entered this small establishment. I'm literally slowly making my way around the "Chinese" spots around the area until I've tried them all. I wasn't expecting anything and definitely not expecting any form of "service" as it *is* a Chinese spot. Yet, she spoke to me. She reached out and conversed in a manner that only this culture could really explain. She wanted to know me and why I was even here in this area. One eyebrow up, I explained. Two eyebrows up, almost an hour later, I still explained. All I knew was that she welcomed me and wanted me to feel home. There was nothing else past that. It's just the culture. It's Chinatown outside Chinatown, and Chinatown outside China (and everything else associated with it). They take the time to purchase produce on behalf of their customers at close to cost price. They take the time to welcome people in. I'm one of them - out of place, out of the element - and she gave me almost an hour of her time. She even apologized for the "yellowness" of my order due to the time it sat there while we conversed BUT I simply told her I'd see her again. Her family welcomed me to Massachusetts. And moments later when I dug in to the food I brought home, I knew home was here. They served up some seriously legit Chinese influenced dishes. BEST PART? The posted menu is only a front. How do I know this? She read me and invited me shortly to the private chat group for the daily cuisine specials directed at those wanting to taste home. There is some legit culinary techniques here. I'd voyage more into it but I'll respect the secrecy of it all. Come with respect, explain a genuine intent to partake, and perhaps, you'd be invited to the ball of a lifetime. I know I am for one awaiting and ready for it. These guys *can* seriously cook.

General Gau was excellent, I wish I could say the same for everything else. I don’t know what the hell as in those Rangoons but they were inedible, boneless strips and pork in the rice were “funky”.

This is always the go to spot. The food is consistent order after order. Take out only, unless you don't mind eating on the bench outside.

4% tax for using credit or debit card! Yikes. I promptly left and supported the small business next door that's not ripping off customers. Food's pretty good from what I remember.
