One customer noted a short wait time to be seated upon arrival, indicating its popularity among locals seeking Hong Kong flavors. The restaurant features approximately fifteen tables in its dining area.
One of the dishes sampled was the beef chao fun. While the customer mentioned that the quantity of beef in the dish was limited, they did acknowledge that it tasted quite good. This suggests that while the portion of certain ingredients might vary, the flavor profile of the dishes at 老蘭 (Lo Lan) is generally well-received.
A significant point of feedback from one reviewer was regarding the service. Observing only one waiter managing the entire dining room, the customer inferred that the service might be less than optimal due to the high volume of tables and limited staff. This is an important aspect for potential diners to consider, especially during peak hours.
Despite the service concerns, 老蘭 (Lo Lan) stands out for its offering of classic Hong Kong style food. This is a key feature that attracts customers looking for authentic tastes from Hong Kong. Interestingly, one customer intended to try the classic toasted pineapple bun with butter, a very popular Hong Kong bakery item. However, they were unable to do so because the restaurant was out of butter at the time of their visit. While this could have been a temporary issue, it highlights the potential for occasional unavailability of certain items.

When we arrived this restaurant, it was full house. We’ve waited a few minutes to be seated. I can only see one waiter worked for the whole dinning room. Ordered beef chao fun. Very limited pieces of beef were found. Good thing it tasted pretty good. Roughly fifteen tables, served by one server. You can tell how well the service is.
Classic Hong Kong style food, good value for breakfast special before 11am, and afternoon special from 2pm to 5pm. The Kong Kong Style tea with milk is authentic. Good choices in Flushing. Did not try the classic one toasted pineapple bun with butter since they are out of butter.
Walked in on a weekday for a lunch. The tables seemed completely all seated however the staff did not bother to acknowledge my party for a whole 5 min duration, even with eye contact. We didn’t even get to leave our name down to be queued. What kind of establishment is this? Walked out and found someplace better that was willing to serve us.
Mahjong Cafe & Bar DBA LKF Café - soon to be 老蘭 📍135-15 37th Ave, Queens, NY 11354 . . Ok, this will be a bit confusing… I’ve been hearing through the grapevines that the person who managed the drinks at LKF Cafe is now working at Mahjong Cafe & Bar… I believe that Mahjong Cafe was currently under construction, or were they? Remember that whole issue about the owners not paying the interior designers??? LKF closed and said they will be relocating, it was said they would be relocating to the other side of Norther Blvd, by Farrington… I’m not sure if everything I just wrote is the case… . Anyhoot, we decided to check out Mahjong Cafe since we were in the area. Looks the same as the last time we visit the place, but the menu was that of LKF.. say what!?!? . So I struck up a convo with the waiter and asked him about LKF, he confirmed they are operating as LKF, however, the name will be 老蘭 pronounced Lo Lan). Not sure when that will take place but the signs of Mahjong cafe will be replaced. . The food tastes and looks like that of LKF. We always liked LKF but it was out of the way and there was really nothing there aside from just the cafe. But this new location has more the see. I mean, if you follow me, you know I’m in the area often… . So check them out if you were a fan of LKF… they have different menus for different times (as LKF did as well).. . Tip - if your set comes with an over easy egg, you can request for scramble, which I think is better (in this case). Their scrambled eggs are so silky/fluffy and looks more than 1 egg…
The chicken I ordered was so tasty and delicious, however the fishball was not good enough that feel like the frozen one, not the handmade one. The service is friendly and the price is reasonable.
