About Lo Kai Restaurant
Welcome to Lo Kai Restaurant, a long-standing establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, located at 1655 Lakeview Ave in Dracut, Massachusetts. Based on customer reviews, Lo Kai offers a mixed experience, characterized by a welcoming environment and exceptional food, but with some aspects of the décor and presentation that might feel a bit dated. For local users in Dracut and the surrounding areas looking for a Chinese restaurant with a reputation for tasty and fresh dishes, coupled with friendly service and affordable drinks, Lo Kai presents an interesting option.
According to one reviewer, Lo Kai boasts a "very nice environment," suggesting a pleasant and comfortable setting for diners. This positive initial impression is further enhanced by comments about the staff being "great" and "friendly," who even provided a "great seating arrangement" for a family celebrating a birthday. This indicates that Lo Kai prioritizes customer comfort and strives to create a positive dining atmosphere. However, another reviewer, who had not visited in over a decade, noted that the "place has seen better days" and speculated that there might not have been any updates to the establishment in approximately 30 years. This paints a picture of a restaurant that might have a classic, perhaps even slightly worn, ambiance that some might find charming while others might perceive as outdated.
The service at Lo Kai seems to be a significant highlight, particularly the server named Norm, who was described as "great" and a "very funny dude." This personal touch and engaging service can greatly enhance the dining experience, making customers feel welcome and entertained. The fact that a reviewer was willing to overlook some of the restaurant's dated aspects due to the excellent service speaks volumes about the staff's dedication to creating a positive experience for their patrons. Despite the mention of being given takeout menus upon seating and water being served in plastic cups, the quality of the server's interaction appears to have left a lasting positive impression.
A consistent theme in the positive feedback is the quality and taste of the food. One reviewer described the food as "fresh, delicious, and very scrumptious," emphasizing the high level of enjoyment experienced by their entire family, including children who had no complaints. This suggests that Lo Kai excels in preparing flavorful and satisfying Chinese dishes that appeal to a wide range of palates. The other reviewer, despite noting the dated environment, also affirmed that the food was "excellent," specifically mentioning the fried rice, peking ravioli, teriyaki, gold fingers, and crab rangoon as being "yummy." This reinforces the idea that Lo Kai's culinary offerings are a major draw for its customers.
Another notable feature of Lo Kai is their drinks, which were described as "strong and inexpensive." This combination is often highly valued by diners looking to enjoy alcoholic beverages with their meal without incurring a significant cost. The mention of a Mai Tai, even though it lacked a garnish, suggests that Lo Kai offers a range of standard bar drinks. The affordability and potency of their beverages could be an additional reason why local users might choose to dine here.
Despite the overall positive sentiment regarding the food and service, the mention of being given takeout menus when seated and water served in plastic cups, along with the lack of garnish on a cocktail, suggests that the presentation and perhaps some of the finer details might be areas where Lo Kai could improve. These aspects contribute to the overall dining experience and can influence a customer's perception of the restaurant's attention to detail. The comparison to another local establishment, Kashin Garden, as potentially being a "better option" by one reviewer indicates that there is local competition and that some diners might prioritize a more modern or refined experience.
Currently, the provided information does not include any specific promotional details or special offers from Lo Kai Restaurant. In conclusion, Lo Kai Restaurant in Dracut, MA, offers a compelling blend of delicious and fresh Chinese cuisine, coupled with friendly and engaging service, particularly from their server Norm. The drinks are also noted to be strong and inexpensive. While the environment might be perceived as somewhat dated, the consistently positive feedback on the food quality suggests that Lo Kai excels in what truly matters to many diners. Came here for one of our daughter's birthdays. It is a very nice environment; the staff was great, friendly, and gave us a great seating arrangement. The food was fresh, delicious, and very scrumptious; we enjoyed all of it. I didn't hear one of the kids complain about anything. We had a great time. Make sure you check this place out. Oh, and the drinks were strong and inexpensive.
Hadn't been to the Lo Kai in at least 10 years. This place has seen better days - I'd guess they haven't made any updates to the place in 30 years. Went there with my family. Were given takeout menus when seated. Water was served in plastic cups, and my Mai Tai had no garnish. Despite this our server Norm was great - very funny dude, and the food was excellent. Got fried rice, peking ravioli, teriyaki, gold fingers, crab ragoon - all were yummy. Despite the sketchy vibe I could see us going again, although I think Kashin Garden down the street is probably a better option.
I grew up going to the Lo Kai with my family. I remember when the entire restaurant was jammed up and the parking lot was full. Not sure what happened but it's very sad to see this place in decline. Came here on a Friday night and they had one server working the entire dining room, service was terrible. Mai Tai's from the bar were gross. Food was mediocre. I think staffing is their biggest issue at the moment. I hope the Lo Kai can improve soon! Update Dec 2024: The food has really improved since our last visit. Great service from the bartender.
If you heard things have changed for the better, food is good, you heard wrong. It was horrendous. Service is slow although the woman was very kind. Soda came out in red solo cups. Don't think I've ever seen that in a restaurant in my 44 years. Don't waste your time or money. 50 years is a great accomplishment but if this is the best you can do, might as well shut it down and sell the place.
We ordered some Chinese food. Rice, chicken wings, boneless Ribs and general tsaos chicken. It was so gross. Ribs were burnt couldn't eat them. Rice was different. All other items were tossed out. The food there has hit rock bottom. We will never eat there again
