According to enthusiastic customer reviews, LJ Shanghai stands out as a top-tier dining establishment. One reviewer proclaims that "it doesn’t get better than LJ Shanghai," emphasizing the exceptional quality of their food. They specifically highlight the soup dumplings and pan-fried noodles as must-try dishes, even stating that these would be their choice for a last meal. This strong endorsement speaks volumes about the deliciousness and authenticity of these particular items on the menu.
Another patron raves about the spicy beef noodles, declaring them the best in Cleveland. They describe the beef as tender and generously portioned, and the soup base as rich and aromatic, drawing a comparison to authentic spicy beef noodles found in Los Angeles. This indicates that LJ Shanghai excels in delivering flavorful and authentic regional Chinese dishes, particularly appealing to those who enjoy a bit of spice.
Beyond the exceptional food, customers consistently praise the excellent service at LJ Shanghai. This suggests that the dining experience is not only about the taste but also about the attentiveness and professionalism of the staff. Creating a welcoming and efficient environment for diners appears to be a priority at LJ Shanghai.
The restaurant itself is described as spacious and comfortable, contributing to a pleasant dining atmosphere. This allows guests to relax and enjoy their meal in a well-laid-out setting, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you are dining alone or with a group, the ambiance seems conducive to a comfortable and enjoyable meal.
A notable point mentioned by reviewers is that LJ Shanghai has recently transitioned to being a cash-only establishment. While this might require a slight adjustment for some customers, the reviewers who mentioned it strongly believe that the quality of the food and the overall experience are well worth the extra step of taking out cash beforehand. This policy is presented as a minor inconvenience in exchange for the exceptional culinary offerings.
LJ Shanghai is also highlighted as a woman-owned small business. For customers who prioritize supporting local and women-led enterprises, LJ Shanghai offers an opportunity to do so while enjoying high-quality food and service. This aspect adds another layer of appeal for those who value community support and entrepreneurship.
While the majority of the feedback is overwhelmingly positive, one reviewer did mention a couple of minor downsides. They noted that the portion size of the spicy beef noodles is somewhat smaller, and it is currently only served with wheat noodles, suggesting that a rice noodle option would be a welcome addition. Additionally, the duck dish is described as quite expensive for the small portion size. However, these points are presented as minor drawbacks in comparison to the overall positive experience and the exceptional quality of other dishes like the soup dumplings and spicy beef noodles.
Considering the overwhelmingly positive reviews emphasizing the exceptional food quality, particularly the soup dumplings, pan-fried noodles, and spicy beef noodles, LJ Shanghai appears to be a standout Chinese restaurant in Cleveland. The consistent praise for the excellent service and the comfortable, spacious environment further contribute to its appeal. For local users in Cleveland seeking an authentic and high-quality Shanghai dining experience, LJ Shanghai comes highly recommended.
If you are a fan of flavorful and well-prepared Chinese cuisine, especially Shanghai specialties, LJ Shanghai is definitely worth a visit. Be sure to come prepared with cash, as they currently operate on a cash-only basis. The slight inconvenience of an ATM trip seems to be a small price to pay for what many consider to be the best Chinese food in the area. Supporting a woman-owned small business that is dedicated to providing amazing quality food at great prices is an added bonus.
To learn more about their menu, daily specials, or any potential changes to their services, you can contact LJ Shanghai directly at (216) 400-6936 or +1 216-400-6936. It doesn’t get better than LJ Shanghai. If you told me I was dying and I was allowed one last meal it would be the soup dumplings and pan fried noodles. The service is always excellent. The owner recently went cash only- it is so worth the extra minute to take cash out of an atm ahead of time. If you support small business, support woman owned small business, and support amazing quality food at great prices than you want to experience LJ Shanghai. It is the best.
The food here is great! The spicy beef noodles ($16) are, in my opinion, the best in Cleveland. The beef is tender and generously portioned, and the soup base is rich and aromatic, reminiscent of the authentic spicy beef noodles I’ve had in LA. I highly recommend it for spice lovers. However, the portion size is on the smaller side, and it only comes with wheat noodles. It would be wonderful if they offered a rice noodle option. Another downside is the duck—it’s quite expensive at $18 but comes in a very small portion. That said, the service is excellent, and the restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Just keep in mind that they only accept cash. I’d definitely return for the beef noodles, especially if they add a rice noodle option!
As soon as we walked in, we were hit with the best smells ever. At the time, the restaurant was accepting cash only which thankfully we had. We ordered the soup dumplings which are a must have and are the star of the show. We overheard several other group of people order multiple orders of them because they’re so good. Quick service and very personable. You could tell who were regulars bc of the friendly banter between them and the employees and it was all around a comfortable environment. While there we also overheard this restaurant ranked #95 on Yelp’s best Chinese restaurants in the U.S.A. I believe and I strongly agree it earned its spot. I got the mixed veggies soup and my partner, the Shanghai flat noodle soup. Both were excellent soups and id love to get them again. They were even better with some vinegar, soy sauce and chili oil. The prices are also very reasonable as you get what you pay for plus some. I cannot wait to come back!!
Super rude owner and poor services. Food quality was fairly average, too. When I informed the owner that there are not just one but more than 10 bugs in my soup, the only answer I got was: “It’s because you ordered that soup and it’s the season when the bugs are in the vegetables even if we’ve washed them” I said then you should at least inform your customers about this potential risk before they order this soup. Then, the owner just suddenly took the menu and said in a super rude and sarcastic way: “I’m so sorry (sarcastically) it’s so inconvenient for you” Why am I receiving this kind of service when I reported an issue on my soup as a customer?! Also, I understand that there can be bugs hidden in vegetables, but I do make my own dishes and have the common sense that if you wash them thoroughly enough, even if there are a few bugs left out, the whole soup would definitely not turn into a bug soup! After that, an older lady came to me and said: “Don’t be bothered by that, she always talks to us like that” Wait, EXCUSE ME?! I actually don’t care about how the owner talks to her family members or coworkers, that’s none of my business! I’m a customer and that itself should say enough about how they should provide services! One star for at least not charging the bug soup in the end and for the older lady to at least trying to apologize. Horrible experience! Would not recommend!
LJ IS THE BEST RESTAURANT IVE EVER BEEN TO. they are so nice and sweet. the food and service is a 10/10. the dumplings, noodles, and cucumbers are my favorite but everything they have is so good!! don’t listen to other bad reviews they are not true!
