According to glowing feedback from one customer, Little Hunan Restaurant's food is described as "fresh and amazing!!" This reviewer, whose wife is from US, noted that she was finally impressed by a Chinese restaurant in the United States, highlighting the authenticity of the flavors. The taste and quality were favorably compared to premium, more expensive restaurants, indicating a high standard of culinary execution. The reviewer commended the cook and expressed such eagerness to eat the food that they couldn't wait until their vehicle finished charging nearby.
Another customer provided a more detailed review, noting several positive aspects alongside a minor critique. They described the service as "fast" and the prices as "fair," aligning with the desire for a quick and affordable meal. The food was characterized as "classic, simple Chinese food," suggesting a focus on traditional dishes prepared in a straightforward manner. The reviewer did mention that the use of corn starch was "a little heavy but not out of line," indicating a minor textural element that didn't detract significantly from their overall enjoyment.
This second reviewer also commented on the lunch specials, noting that they consist of a single entree and rice. As a result, they opted for a side dish of steamed vegetables to complement their meal. This provides insight into the structure and potential value of their lunch offerings. Furthermore, they specifically mentioned the "salt and pepper pork," which was prepared battered, a style different from what they were accustomed to. Despite this variation, the reviewer found the dish to taste "great," especially when enjoyed dine-in, hot, and crispy. They did express uncertainty about whether this particular dish would maintain its quality as takeout, suggesting that some items might be best enjoyed fresh at the restaurant. The reviewer also noted that lunch for two cost approximately $30, providing a tangible sense of the affordability.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Little Hunan Restaurant appears to cater to both quick service for those on the go and a pleasant dine-in experience. The first reviewer's eagerness to eat the food immediately suggests a desire to enjoy it fresh, implying a potentially inviting atmosphere for dining at the restaurant. The second reviewer's distinction between the dine-in and potential takeout quality of the salt and pepper pork further supports the idea that the restaurant accommodates on-site dining. However, specific details about the decor, ambiance, or size of the dining area are not provided in these reviews. Local users seeking a particular atmosphere might need to visit the location or look for additional online information.
The services offered by Little Hunan Restaurant clearly include takeout, as implied by the first reviewer's situation and the second reviewer's consideration of takeout quality. Dine-in service is also available, as explicitly mentioned by the second reviewer who enjoyed their lunch at the restaurant. It is highly probable that they also offer phone ordering, given the provided phone numbers. Delivery service is not explicitly mentioned in these reviews, so local users interested in delivery would need to inquire directly with the restaurant.
Features of Little Hunan Restaurant that stand out include the freshness and high quality of their food, with one reviewer comparing it favorably to more expensive establishments and receiving approval from someone with authentic USese culinary standards. The "fast" service and "fair prices" are also notable features, making it an accessible option for a quality meal. The preparation of classic Chinese dishes, with some potential regional variations (such as the battered salt and pepper pork), suggests a menu that caters to traditional tastes while possibly offering some unique twists. The lunch specials, consisting of an entree and rice, with the option to add sides, provide an affordable midday meal.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. It is unknown if Little Hunan Restaurant offers any daily specials, lunch deals beyond the entree and rice, family meal options, or any other discounts or promotions. Local users interested in potential special offers should contact the restaurant directly or check local advertising platforms.
In conclusion, Little Hunan Restaurant in San Mateo appears to be a highly regarded Chinese restaurant that prioritizes fresh, high-quality, and authentic-tasting food at fair prices. The fast service makes it a convenient option for those looking for a quick meal, while the positive comments about the dine-in experience suggest a pleasant setting for eating at the restaurant. Their menu features classic Chinese dishes, with some preparations that might offer a unique touch. While specific details about the environment and promotional offers are lacking, the strong positive feedback regarding the food quality and value makes Little Hunan Restaurant a compelling choice for local users in San Mateo seeking a satisfying Chinese dining experience. The food are fresh and amazing!! My wife from Taiwan loves it. She finally found a Chinese restaurant in the US that impressed her. The taste and quality are that of premium more expensive restaurants. Props to the cook. We couldn't wait to eat it while charging our vehicle nearby.
Fast, fair prices, classic, simple Chinese food. The use of corn starch was a little heavy but not out of line. the lunch specials are a single entree and rice so we got a side dish of steamed vegetables. The salt and pepper pork was battered and this is not how I’m used to it but it tasted great. I’m not sure this dish would be as good as take out but as dine in and hot and crispy I really liked it. $30 for two for lunch.
Exactly what we wanted. The Chinese food I grew up with. Americanized and very tasty.
Ordered the veg fried rice, kung Pao tofu, eggplant in garlic sauce, veg chowmein and crispy spring rolls (little oily). The fried rice and kung Pao tofu was good. Didn't quite enjoy the taste of eggplant and veg chowmein.
I love their fried rice very much. It reminds me of New York City Chinese food. I'm also a big fan of their beef chow fun and sweet and sour chicken. Delicious. They have a tofu basil dish that's good for vegetarians. They're also on DoorDash if you live on the peninsula near San Mateo.
