About Little House

Welcome to Little House Chinese and Sushi, an exceptional addition to the Chinese Restaurant category, located at 417 Charlotte St D in Johnstown, Colorado. This unassuming establishment has quickly gained a reputation as a "hidden gem," surprising patrons with its authentic and incredibly fresh Chinese cuisine, alongside a notable sushi bar. Contrary to what one might expect, Little House offers a delightful culinary experience characterized by huge portions, surprisingly affordable prices, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere cultivated by its thoughtful owner and kind staff.

One enthusiastic customer described their meal as "very good!" and expressed surprise at finding authentic Chinese food in Johnstown. They were particularly impressed by the "huge portions" offered at "only half the usual price," highlighting the exceptional value that Little House provides. The reviewer also noted the "warm and thoughtful" nature of the boss, suggesting a personal touch and care in the restaurant's operation that enhances the dining experience.

Another reviewer echoed the sentiment of Little House being a "hidden gem" in Johnstown, emphasizing the freshness of the food. They also commended their server for being "so kind and sweet" and "very attentive" to all guests. The cleanliness of the restaurant, including the bathrooms, was also noted positively. This reviewer provided a detailed description of the restaurant's layout, mentioning the presence of tables, booths, and a sushi bar in the front, indicating a versatile dining space that caters to different preferences.

Delving into the specifics of the menu, the reviewer highlighted several dishes. The appetizers, rangoon and fried spring rolls, were described as "definitely delicious and flavorful." The rangoon stood out for not tasting "factory-made," with fresh ingredients and a specific, non-bland flavor profile. The spring rolls were also praised for their freshness, containing fresh-cut cabbage.

For the entrees, the reviewer sampled the orange beef with fried rice and the orange chicken with lo mein, intentionally ordering both to compare the beef and chicken preparations. The orange beef impressed with its fresh orange scent upon serving. The beef cuts were noted as "very tender" and fried in a handmade, tender, flaky coating that was easy on the palate. This dish was accompanied by broccoli and orange slices.

The orange chicken, served with lo mein, also received high praise. The reviewer was so impressed with the lo mein that they felt it could be ordered as a meal on its own, describing it as "that tasty." The chicken itself was thought to be cuts of chicken thigh, a choice that proved excellent for the dish. Like the beef, the dredged chicken cuts were tender and flaky. Both the orange beef and chicken featured a "perfectly gelled orange sauce" with real orange rind shavings and a touch of red pepper flakes to balance the citrus notes. This dish also came with broccoli and orange slices, indicating a consistent and thoughtful approach to the presentation and accompaniments.

To assess the sushi bar, the reviewer ordered an unagi (eel) and cucumber roll, considering it a perfect test for a sushi establishment. They were impressed by the unagi, noting that it was "well made and presented well on the platter." The taste was described as being exactly what one would expect from a good unagi roll, indicating a competence in sushi preparation that complements the excellent Chinese cuisine.

Remarkably, despite their usual reluctance to give a 5-star rating on a first visit, this reviewer felt that Little House Chinese and Sushi went "above and beyond." They highly recommended it for those seeking fresh, handmade Chinese food, stating they drove over 55 miles to try the restaurant and were not disappointed. The fact that they began eating before taking photos is a testament to the immediate appeal and deliciousness of the food.

This hidden gem in Johnstown CO was a treat to find. The food was very good and as fresh as it gets. Our server was so kind and sweet. Very attentive to all her guests. The owner was also very kind. Bathrooms were very clean, along with the restaurant. There are tables, booths, and a sushi bar in the front. Now, on to the food. 1. Appetizers: rangoon and fried spring rolls. Definitely delicious and flavorful rangoon. Didnt seem to be factory because the ingredients were fresh and the flavor profile was specific, not bland. Spring rolls were good as well. Fresh cut cabbage in them. 2. Entree 1 was their orange beef with fried rice. The fresh orange scent was the first thing I noticed when the food was served. The beef cuts were very tender and fried in a typical asian coating. But, it was hand made, tender, flaky, and easy on the pallette. This dish came with a side of broccoli and orange slices. 3. Entree 2 was their orange chicken. Reason, to compare the beef to the chicken. This dish came with lomein. First lets talk about the lomein. We could order the lomein as a meal its own. It was that tasty. Now, the orange chicken. I am thinking the chicken was cuts of chicken thigh. A great choice for this dish. Again, the dredged chicken cuts were tender and flaky just like the beef. Both entrees had a perfectly gelled orange sauce with little orange rind shavings in it. A few red pepper flakes to off set the citrus notes. This dish was also served with a side of broccoli and orange slices. 4. Unagi or Eel & cucumber roll: This is a perfect way to test a sushi bar. And, I was impressed by the Unagi. It was well made and presented well on the platter. It tasted as what you would expect for a good Unagi roll. I do not usually give 5 stars on a first visit to any establishment. But, Little House Chinese and Sushi went above and beyond. If you want fresh hand made Chinese, I highly suggest Little House as your next stop for Chinese food. We drove over 55 miles to try them and we were not disappointed. You will notice we tasted the food before taking photos so my apologies, but it was really that good.

Very clean restaurant with elegant details that feel sanitary. The music was soft and pleasant. We were immediately greeted and sat based on our preference. We each ordered different dishes (5 total) with different specifications. Not only did it get delivered without a single mistake, but it came fast and fresh. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The sauces were unique to each dish and all delicious. Our plates were continually cleared throughout our meal and our drinks remained full. Such an enjoyable meal.
