About Lin's Gourmet
Welcome to Lin's Gourmet, a Chinese restaurant situated at 18045 US-1, Ruther Glen, VA 22546, USA. Serving the Ruther Glen community, Lin's Gourmet offers a variety of Chinese dishes for its patrons. Recent customer reviews present a somewhat contrasting view of the restaurant, with notable praise for their service and accommodation of dietary restrictions alongside criticism regarding the quality of certain dishes.
One customer shared a highly positive experience, emphasizing the restaurant's generous portion sizes and the freshness and deliciousness of the food. This reviewer, who suffers from a severe mushroom allergy and had avoided Chinese food for nearly 15 years due to this, was particularly impressed by Lin's Gourmet's attentiveness to their dietary needs. Upon advance notice from the customer's husband about the allergy, the restaurant went to great lengths to ensure the meal was safe, using completely separate cookware and ingredients. The customer reported enjoying their entire meal without any allergic reaction, expressing immense gratitude for being able to enjoy a favorite type of cuisine again after a long hiatus. This exceptional accommodation and the positive feedback on the food's taste and freshness suggest that Lin's Gourmet is capable of providing a satisfying and safe dining experience, especially for those with specific dietary requirements.
In contrast, another customer had a significantly negative experience with several of the dishes they ordered. This reviewer purchased sesame chicken with fried rice and steamed dumplings. While the sesame chicken was described as looking tasty, the reviewer found that the pieces were overwhelmingly batter (90%) with very little chicken (10%). Additionally, the sauce was noted to be thin and predominantly tasted of vinegar, leading to the speculation that it might have been diluted or lacked proper thickening with starch. The "fried rice" was also heavily criticized, described as bright yellow, wet, and suspected to be microwaved Uncle Ben's rice sourced from a nearby grocery store. This strongly negative assessment of two core dishes raises concerns about the overall food quality and preparation methods at Lin's Gourmet.
The steamed dumplings ordered by this same reviewer were deemed "disgusting." They were described as extremely overcooked, with wrappers that had a rubbery texture. The filling was reported to taste like rancid hotdog meat, a particularly unappetizing description. Furthermore, the reviewer noted the unusual absence of dumpling sauce, which is typically served with steamed dumplings in Chinese cuisine. This comprehensive criticism of the dumplings further contributes to a negative impression of the food quality experienced by this customer.
Interestingly, the same reviewer who was highly critical of the food offered a positive note regarding the service. They gave Lin's Gourmet 5 stars for service, citing the politeness of the staff and the order being ready at the time estimated by the restaurant's website. This suggests that while there may be issues with the food preparation of certain items, the customer service aspect of Lin's Gourmet might be a strong point, with staff being courteous and efficient in fulfilling orders.
Another point raised by this reviewer was their speculation that Lin's Gourmet might remain open primarily because it is the only Chinese restaurant in town. While this is not a direct assessment of the restaurant's quality, it implies that local diners might have limited options, potentially influencing the restaurant's continued operation despite mixed reviews.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Lin's Gourmet is not explicitly described. There is no mention of the restaurant's decor, ambiance, cleanliness, or overall atmosphere. The feedback focuses primarily on the food quality and service aspects, without providing details about the dining setting itself.
In terms of services, Lin's Gourmet offers both takeout and potentially dine-in options, although the reviews primarily discuss takeout experiences. The positive mention of the website's estimation accuracy for order readiness suggests an organized system for takeout orders. The exceptional effort to accommodate a severe mushroom allergy indicates a willingness to cater to specific dietary needs, which is a significant service feature. However, the inconsistency in food quality across different dishes is a notable service concern, as customers cannot be guaranteed a satisfactory meal across the menu.
The reviews do not explicitly mention any unique features of Lin's Gourmet, such as signature dishes (beyond the sesame chicken, fried rice, and steamed dumplings that were criticized), special cooking techniques, or a particular style of Chinese cuisine that sets it apart. The focus of the feedback is on the execution of standard Chinese-American fare.
Similarly, there is no information provided regarding any promotional offers, discounts, or special pricing at Lin's Gourmet. The reviews discuss individual orders and experiences without reference to any ongoing promotions or value deals.
In conclusion, Lin's Gourmet in Ruther Glen, Virginia, presents a complex picture based on the available customer reviews. On one hand, the restaurant demonstrates exceptional service and a commendable ability to accommodate severe dietary restrictions, suggesting a high level of care and customer focus in certain situations. On the other hand, there are significant concerns raised about the quality and preparation of some of their core dishes, such as the sesame chicken, fried rice, and steamed dumplings, with descriptions indicating poor execution and ingredient quality. The polite and efficient service for takeout orders is a positive aspect. However, potential customers should be aware of the reported inconsistencies in food quality when making their decision. If dietary restrictions are a concern, Lin's Gourmet appears to be a reliable option. For general orders, it might be prudent to consider the mixed feedback on food quality.

The portions are huge and the food is delicious and fresh. I have not had Chinese food since elementary/middle school because I have a severe mushroom allergy. My husband ordered the food in advance and explained to them that I could not have mushrooms and if that was something they could work around. They were beyond kind and used complete separate cookware and ingredients. I ate my entire meal last night and no reaction and after almost 15 years I could enjoy one of my favorite meals again with having a reaction. We will definitely go here from now on. I recommend you give them a try!
I got sesame chicken with fried rice and steamed dumplings. The sesame chicken looks tasty but pieces are 90% batter and 10% chicken. Sauce is thin and tastes mostly of vinegar (they must be thinning it, or not using any starch). The "fried rice" is bright yellow, wet, and I'd be willing to bet money it's microwave Uncle Bens rice from the Food Lion next door. The dumplings are disgusting. Extremely overcooked, the wrapper is like eating steamed rubber. The filling tastes like rancid hotdog meat, and this is the first time I've ever gotten dumplings with no dumpling sauce. This place must still be open because it's the only Chinese place in town. 5 stars for service because they were polite and had my order ready at the time their website estimated.
Good food, but you must order online. They only allow you inside to quickly pick up your food. Probably a health related thing since Covid. The shrimp toast is fabulous.
Never ordering from this place ever again in my entire life. First of all, the food is already bland and the only reason I have ordered here is because it’s the only Chinese option. But after tonight, never again. I ordered what I thought was noodles aka chow mein, then got home and realized it was all vegetables. I drove all the way back, told them what happened and the lady says “we can’t exchange it because we would lose profit.” Understandable but jeez, if I made a mistake ordering why not just exchange it since it clearly wasn’t what I thought it was and I don’t like it? Thats what a normal business would do that wants returning customers. The other person with the review before was right… customer service is terrible. Doesn’t care at all about the customer and just cares about their own profit. Beware.
Terrible customer service. Very greedy. Chow mein is known to have noddles I have order both chow mein and low mein and they keep giving me straight onions and lettuce in broth?? Then says no it’s chow mein and won’t refund it
