About Lin's Garden
Lin's Garden, located at 1318 S Main St in Wake Forest, North Carolina (zip code 27587), serves as a local Chinese restaurant primarily focused on takeout service. They can be reached at (919) 556-8066 or via their mobile number +1 919-556-8066 for placing orders or inquiries. As a "Chinese Restaurant," Lin's Garden operates within the familiar category of establishments offering Chinese-American cuisine, catering to those in the Wake Forest area seeking convenient takeout options.
Understanding the nuances of local dining spots is crucial for residents. Lin's Garden, while categorized as a Chinese restaurant, presents a specific profile based on available customer feedback. It's important to consider these perspectives to form a comprehensive view of what this establishment offers. The provided reviews offer a mixed assessment, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses.
One detailed review provided an overall score of 1.2 out of 10, characterizing Lin's Garden as a standard Chinese takeout spot. This reviewer noted the ease of online ordering and the promptness of the service as positive aspects. The online ordering system was described as seamless, including an email receipt, and the food was reported to be ready on time. However, significant drawbacks were identified, primarily concerning the quality of the chicken and the lack of spice in a dish ordered with a "medium" spice level. This ultimately led to a negative overall experience for this customer.
Regarding the atmosphere and service, this same reviewer gave a score of 4.2 out of 10. The restaurant was described as a typical takeout-only establishment with a somewhat messy and unpolished appearance. The menu was noted to offer a nostalgic "Boston-style" selection, which might appeal to individuals familiar with that regional variation of Chinese-American cuisine. As previously mentioned, the standout positive in this category was the efficient online ordering process.
A specific dish, General Tso's Chicken, received a particularly low score of 2.9 out of 10 and was labeled as a major disappointment that negatively impacted the entire dining experience. The reviewer reported that the chicken was of poor quality, containing a noticeable amount of hard cartilage, making it unpleasant to eat. Furthermore, despite requesting "medium" spice, the dish was found to lack any heat or visible chili peppers, resulting in no spiciness whatsoever. The combination of poor chicken quality and the absence of expected spice led this reviewer to deem the dish highly unsatisfactory.
In contrast to this critical review, another customer offered a more positive sentiment, stating, "So far this is the best Chinese food we've found in the area." This suggests that Lin's Garden may still appeal to some local diners and that experiences can vary. This reviewer also provided a helpful tip for those who enjoy fortune cookies, advising them to specifically request them when placing their order.
Adding another positive viewpoint, a different customer described Lin's Garden as a "Wonderful family owned and run take out business." This highlights a potentially welcoming and personal aspect of the establishment, often appreciated by those who value supporting local, family-run businesses.
Considering these varied perspectives, Lin's Garden appears to be primarily a takeout-focused Chinese restaurant in Wake Forest. While it offers the convenience of online ordering and generally prompt service, some customers have raised concerns about food quality, particularly the chicken, and the accuracy of spice levels in certain dishes. On the other hand, some locals have found it to be the best Chinese food option in the area and appreciate its family-owned operation.
As a Chinese restaurant in the takeout category, Lin's Garden likely offers a range of standard Chinese-American dishes. These typically include:
- Appetizers: Such as spring rolls, egg rolls, dumplings, and possibly wontons. The specific offerings at Lin's Garden are not detailed in the provided information.
- Soups: Common options include wonton soup, egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup. The menu specifics for Lin's Garden are unknown.
- Main Entrees: A variety of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood dishes are usually available, often prepared with different sauces and vegetables. The General Tso's Chicken mentioned in the review is a popular example. Other common dishes include Kung Pao chicken, sweet and sour chicken, beef with broccoli, and various lo mein and fried rice preparations. The "nostalgic Boston-style selection" mentioned suggests there might be regional specialties or variations on classic dishes.
- Rice and Noodles: Options like white rice, brown rice, fried rice (with various proteins), lo mein, and chow mein are standard offerings.

In conclusion, Lin's Garden in Wake Forest, NC, is a Chinese takeout restaurant that offers the convenience of online ordering and appears to provide prompt service. It is described as a family-owned and run business, which some customers appreciate. However, potential patrons should be aware of reviews that highlight concerns regarding the quality of certain ingredients, such as chicken, and the lack of spice in dishes where it is expected. Overall Score: 1.2/10 – A standard Chinese takeout spot with easy online ordering and prompt service, but the low-quality chicken and lack of spice ruined the overall experience. Atmosphere and Service: 4.2/10 – The restaurant is a typical takeout-only spot with a messy and unpolished appearance. The menu offers a nostalgic Boston-style selection that could appeal to some diners. However, the standout positive was the seamless online ordering process, which included an email receipt, and the food was ready on time. General Tso’s Chicken: 2.9/10 – A major letdown that ruined the entire experience. The chicken was of poor quality, with a significant amount of hard cartilage making it unpleasant to eat. Despite selecting “medium” spice, the dish lacked any heat or chili peppers, resulting in no spiciness at all. The combination of these issues overshadowed any potential positives and made the dish highly unsatisfactory.
So far this is the best Chinese food we've found in the area. If you want fortune cookies, make sure to ask for them! Wonderful family owned and run take out business.
It was good at one time. Now it's totally disgusting, over cooked, dry food that my dog doesn't even wanna eat. I've bought here a hundred times but the last five times, tasted like over cooked garbage water. It's time to go out of business.
I love this restaurant so so much I've been going there since I was a kid and I still think its my favorite place to eat, cheap and delicious. love the lo mein and did battle of the books with one of the workers in middle school just a wonderful place to eat! also im vegetarian, even if the menu doesnt have a non meat option if you just ask them to remove it they will, very nice :)
I have no idea how can anyone give this place 4 stars. Order sweet & sour chicken comes with no sauce but just chicken pieces, order hot and sour soup and the soup tastes bland with no sourness or heat. Ask for extra spicy and they hand you a chili oil on the side. First and the last time ordering from here.
