About Lin Garden
Nestled in a quiet strip mall at 6924 Almaden Expy in San Jose, California, Lin Garden operates as a Chinese restaurant that has garnered varied reactions from its patrons. Categorized as a Chinese restaurant, Lin Garden primarily focuses on serving Cantonese cuisine, offering a selection of familiar dishes. Despite its unassuming location, some customers have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and value offered, while others have noted inconsistencies in flavor and preparation.
One customer described Lin Garden as a "small place hidden in the corner" that exceeded their expectations. They highlighted the menu as comprising standard, mostly Cantonese, dishes without being overly elaborate. Their order included salt and pepper ribs, beef chow fun, Chinese broccoli with beef, and beef brisket stew with daikons, all of which were described as "scrumptious" and surpassing expectations. This positive review also emphasized the "huge" portions relative to the "very reasonable prices," suggesting a good value proposition for customers. An additional positive note was the delicious homemade chili sauce available on the tables, indicating attention to detail in even the condiments. The reviewer further revealed that the chef had previously worked at a famous Cantonese restaurant in China, which could explain the high quality of some of the dishes and comes across as a significant feature of this establishment.
However, other reviews present a more mixed picture. One customer found the food to be "just ok," noting that while the portions were large, the dishes "lacked any deep flavor." This feedback contrasts sharply with the first review, suggesting potential variability in the taste and seasoning of the food. This reviewer also mentioned a significant wait time of nearly 25 minutes for a single combo order, which could be a concern for customers looking for a quick meal.
Another review provided specific feedback on several dishes. The fried rice was described as "pretty plain in flavor," requiring the addition of more soy sauce, which did not significantly improve its taste. The Mongolian beef was deemed "good," but was criticized for being "overloaded with onion." Lastly, the sweet and sour pork was considered "decent" in flavor but had already become "mushy" by the time the customer got home to eat it, indicating a potential issue with the dish's texture upon takeout.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Lin Garden is described as a "small place hidden in the corner of a quiet strip mall," suggesting a modest and perhaps less prominent location. There is no further information provided about the interior decor or ambiance. The service seems to be generally efficient, although one review mentioned a significant delay for a takeout order. The friendly demeanor of the staff was not explicitly mentioned in the negative reviews, so it's unclear if the service quality is consistent across all experiences.
Features of Lin Garden appear to include its focus on Cantonese cuisine, generous portion sizes, and reasonable prices, as highlighted by one positive review. The presence of a chef with prior experience in a famous Cantonese restaurant in China could be a significant draw for those seeking authentic flavors. The homemade chili sauce is another unique feature that received positive mention. However, potential drawbacks include inconsistencies in flavor, as some dishes have been described as bland, and issues with the preparation and texture of certain items, such as the overloaded Mongolian beef and the mushy sweet and sour pork. The wait time for orders might also be a concern for some customers.
There is no promotional information available in the provided customer reviews for Lin Garden. In conclusion, Lin Garden in San Jose offers a mixed bag of experiences for its customers. While some have been pleasantly surprised by the delicious and generously portioned Cantonese dishes at reasonable prices, along with the unique homemade chili sauce and the chef's impressive background, others have found the food to be lacking in flavor or have experienced issues with preparation and wait times. For local users seeking a Cantonese meal in a modest setting, Lin Garden might be worth a try, especially for dishes like the salt and pepper ribs and beef brisket stew that received high praise. However, it's advisable to be aware of the potential for inconsistencies in flavor and preparation based on the varied customer feedback. For the latest information on their menu and any potential promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

This is a small place hidden in the corner of a quiet strip mall but the food they served completely surprised me. The menu comprises standard Chinese dishes (mostly Cantonese), nothing too fancy. We ordered salt and pepper ribs, beef chow fun, Chinese broccoli with beef, and beef brisket stew with daikons. All of them were scrumptious, way beyond our expectations. The amount of food was huge given their very reasonable prices. Even their homemade chili sauce on the tables were delicious. We then found out the chef before moving to the US was actually a chef at a famous Cantonese restaurant in China. We highly recommends this place.
The food was just ok. Big portions but lacked any deep flavor. Also took near 25 minutes to just get my 1 combo order. The fried rice was pretty plain in flavor. I had to add more soy sauce but it didn't help much. The Mongolian beef was good, but wow was it just overloaded with onion. Lastly, the sweet and sour pork decent but it already mushy by the time I got home to eat it.
Stopped by hole in wall next to drugstore in underpopulated strip mall. Lots of parking, plastic covered tables, pictures of food plastered on walls. Portions huge, food terrible. Worst chicken salad ever, had few expected ingredients - chicken, peanuts, sesame, lettuce - no cilantro, cabbage or carrots, dressing was chinese mustard. 🙁 Kung pao chicken was extremely disappointing - food giant chunks thrown in a pan with sriracha. 🙁 Combo chow mein was nothing but noodles. 😒 Shrimp with black bean sauce was full of shrimp and short on flavor. 🙁 Egg rolls soggy with mushy sad filling. 🙁 Very disappointed. I won't be back.
I love this place! Discovered it about a month ago, and tried it several times since. They have a wide selection and all the dishes I tried were delicious. I recommend the eggplant with spicy sauce. Very reasonably priced and very nice people
Truly a hole in the wall for amazing casual Chinese takeout. If you decide to sit down at this joint, theres authentic Chinese specialties every week here that they offer, but you have to ask. The portion sizes here is fitting for 2+ for the side dishes. I recommend the sweet and sour pork, definitely a fan favorite.
