About Leo's Chow Mein

Leo's Chow Mein, a long-standing Chinese restaurant located at 1059 Hudson Rd, St Paul, MN 55106, USA, has been serving the local community with its classic American Chinese fare. Operating under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," Leo's Chow Mein offers a range of services and goods centered around traditional Chinese cuisine adapted for American palates. You can reach them at (651) 771-0305 or their mobile number +1 651-771-0305.

Based on customer feedback, Leo's Chow Mein is often praised for its "old school Chinese" dishes, with their chow mein being a particular highlight. One reviewer, who visited for the first time, described the food as "fantastic." This suggests that the restaurant maintains a commitment to the traditional flavors and cooking styles that many have come to expect and enjoy from American Chinese restaurants over the years.

For many, Leo's Chow Mein holds a special place as a "favorite spot" that they have frequented since childhood. This speaks to the restaurant's consistency and the enduring quality of its food, as one long-time patron noted that "they haven't changed at all." This consistency is a significant draw for loyal customers who appreciate the familiar and reliable taste of their favorite dishes.

The restaurant specializes in "Excellent American Chinese food," indicating a menu that likely features popular dishes such as chow mein, fried rice, and other familiar options. Two specific items that receive high praise in the reviews are the "fried race" (likely a typo and meant to be "fried rice") and their "fried chicken wings," which are described as "the best around." These positive comments highlight specific dishes that customers consistently enjoy and may be considered signature items.

Regarding the dining environment, the reviews suggest that the dining room is "not big" and is "ok for a couple of people." This implies a cozy and perhaps more intimate setting, suitable for smaller groups. However, one reviewer explicitly recommends "take out" as the preferred way to enjoy Leo's Chow Mein. This suggests that while dine-in service is available, a significant portion of their business may come from takeout orders, catering to individuals and families looking to enjoy their meals at home.

In terms of pricing, one reviewer mentioned that "for about $15 per person, you won't leave hungry." This provides a general indication of the affordability and value offered by Leo's Chow Mein. Customers can expect a satisfying meal at a reasonable price point, making it an accessible option for a wide range of diners.

It is important to note a significant piece of information from one of the reviews: "Very sorry to hear that. It’s closing down at the end of the year." This indicates that Leo's Chow Mein, as it currently exists at its Hudson Road location, is reportedly closing its doors at the end of the current year. The reviewer also expressed hope that they would "find a new place," suggesting that the closure may be related to the current location rather than the business itself ceasing operations entirely.

Given this news, local users who have fond memories of Leo's Chow Mein or those who are interested in experiencing their "old school Chinese" cuisine should be aware of the impending closure. It might be an opportune time to visit or place a takeout order before the end of the year to enjoy their well-regarded dishes like the chow mein, fried rice, and fried chicken wings one last time at this location.

For those who appreciate classic American Chinese food and have been loyal patrons of Leo's Chow Mein, the potential closure of their current location will likely be disappointing. However, the hope expressed by a reviewer for them to find a new place suggests that there might be a possibility of Leo's Chow Mein resurfacing in a different location in the future. Local residents who value their offerings may want to stay informed about any potential announcements regarding a relocation.

In summary, Leo's Chow Mein in St. Paul is a Chinese restaurant known for its traditional American Chinese cuisine, particularly its chow mein, fried rice, and fried chicken wings. While the dining room is small and perhaps best suited for couples, takeout service is a popular option. The restaurant offers good value, with customers reporting satisfying meals for around $15 per person. However, it is crucial to note that the restaurant is reportedly closing down at its current location at the end of the year, urging locals to visit before then if they wish to experience or revisit this long-standing establishment.

It was my first time here the food was fantastic old school Chinese with chow mein. Very sorry to hear that. It’s closing down at the end of the year. I do hope they find a new place. I would definitely go back.

This has always been one if my favorite spots since I was a kid. They haven't changed at all. Excellent American Chinese food. Fried race is the best and their fried chicken wings are the best around. Dining room is not big, ok for a couple people. Take out is the way to go. For about $15 per person, you won't leave hungry

Don’t get their cream cheese wontons. There’s barely even any cream cheese, what are you charging me for…Bread?? Their egg roll are soggy in the inside like baby food. They over charge too much for what little food they give. They’re stingy with their shrimp too but charge more for shrimp…Also, the man at the register doesn’t have good customer service. He was giving attitude before I could even really say anything. I’ve come multiple times to try and given them the benefit of the doubt but no. I’m tired of little portions but paying more.

I get General Tso chicken combination specials everywhere I go to see who has the best. I’ve found it - it’s Leo’s. It left me speechless! The cream cheese wonton was also highly on point. It really was incredible and I live 30 min away but I will be back often.
