About Lan Feast 宴蘭

Lan Feast 宴蘭 is a Chinese Restaurant located in Brookline, offering a variety of dishes including their signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles. Based on recent customer feedback, the restaurant presents a mix of culinary highlights and areas for refinement in the dining experience.

The Lanzhou noodles are described as decent and filling, although some diners feel the broth's flavor profile is lighter and less rich compared to other Lanzhou noodle establishments, particularly within Boston. The noodles themselves have a similar texture across different orders, with a suggestion to try the extra wide noodles on future visits. The beef scallion pancakes received less favorable comments, noted for being tough and cold upon arrival, possibly indicating they had been prepared in advance.

On a return visit, customers noted that while reservations were honored promptly and the decor is considered beautiful, the front seating area has an awkward arrangement that can lead to discomfort with neighboring tables. Additionally, the restaurant's acoustics were mentioned as needing improvement, with a high noise level from conversations and service activities making it difficult to hear nearby diners, even potentially overpowering any background music.

Despite these environmental and service-related observations (with some indication of servers possibly being in training), the food itself, including the Lan Zhou Beef Noodles, green beans, and lamb skewers, has been positively received. The noodles are reported to be substantial, and on one occasion, they were served before the appetizers.

Overall, Lan Feast 宴蘭 appears to offer good quality food, with the Lanzhou Beef Noodles being a central item. However, potential diners should be aware of the reported issues concerning the restaurant's temperature, service accuracy, seating arrangement in the front, and noise levels, which some customers feel need further attention to enhance the overall dining experience. Some things here… Firstly when I walked in I noticed the restaurant was cold. Heating was very subliminal. People were eating with their jackets and beanies on. Secondly, I believe the servers are still in training but we were delivered wrong items on two occasions. The Lanzhou noodles were decent, but I feel like it doesn’t taste anything special compared to Lanzhou noodles I’ve had in the past. Compared within Boston, I believe this restaurants’ broth is more flat and lacks richness. It’s overall very light in flavor. Noodles have the same mouthfeel. Will get extra wide noodles next time. The beef scallion pancakes were not the best; pancake was tough and cold when delivered, perhaps been sitting out for a long time. Definitely potential to be a great appetizer, but maybe today was just too busy.

Came back here for a second try with a reservation for four on a Wednesday evening. We didn't have to wait at all for our table, which had a little "reserved" plaque. There are some things I noticed this time around that could use improvement: 1. We were seated at the tables in the front, which are awkwardly arranged so that you might end up back to back with someone at the table over. This is what happened to me, with the person's chair bumping into mine and our jackets right on top of each other's. 2. The decor here is beautiful, but there's nothing to absorb sound. The restaurant was pretty busy, but it was hard to hear the person right next to me. Sounds of dishes and tables being cleaned up echoed way too loudly. I think there was music playing, but it was hard to tell over the cacophony of noises. The food itself is good. I got the Lan Zhou Beef Noodles, and we got green beans and lamb skewers to share. The noodles were super filling and came out before the appetizers. Overall, the food is good but the actual dining experience still needs fine tuning.

Truly delightful experience. Came in on a whim and got the boiled fish, cucumber Woodear salad, and the lamb soup. The boiled fish was SENSATIONAL. Plump little chunks of black fish throughout with a perfectly spicy, thick broth. The knockout for me was the lamp soup. Basically just scraps of lamb transformed into a deep, complex, satisfying broth with glass noodles.

New hand pulled noodles spot in Brookline! First time coming here and they gave me a great first impression. One thing Lan Feast stands out is the options to pick how thick or thin you want your noodles made. That’s a guaranteed freshly made! The item I got was the lamb ribs noodle soup. It was flavourful and the noodles has that “bouncy” mouth feel. I will definitely go back many more times to try out more items.

I finally got to try Lan Feast this weekend, and I'm a fan! I might like it better than its sister restaurant Lanner...it certainly has more options. We got the stir fried noodles with beef and they were excellent! The beef was so tender and flavorful, and the noodles were perfectly chewy and seasoned, if a little oily. This reminded me of Jahunger noodles from Jahunger, and certainly gives them a run for their money. We got the Sichuan crispy chili chicken and I thought this was pretty good -- good spice, not too much batter. Not my #1 version of this (Little Tao's has my heart) but still good. We also got the lily bulb and celery veggie dish, which was quite interesting. I think it also had thin slices of nagaimo, which I enjoyed. The lily bulb looks like garlic but is quite dense, like a bean. This dish was mildly flavored and very expensive ($22) due to the lily bulb. I wouldn't get it again. Overall the stir fried noodles with beef were delicious -- definitely a must-get. The restaurant was packed for lunch on a Saturday, and for good reason! Looking forward to coming back.
