About Lam's Kitchen
Welcome to Lam's Kitchen, a traditional Chinese noodle shop nestled in the vibrant and bustling Chinatown district of Honolulu, Hawaii. Located at 1152 Maunakea St # A, Honolulu, HI 96817, USA, Lam's Kitchen offers a glimpse into the world of authentic Chinese noodle dishes. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, we pride ourselves on providing a straightforward and honest dining experience, focusing on classic flavors and traditional preparations.
The environment at Lam's Kitchen is described as small and old-fashioned, evoking the charm of a traditional noodle shop. With limited seating for approximately 30 people, the restaurant exudes a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Its location in the heart of Chinatown suggests a connection to the rich cultural heritage of the area, offering a dining experience that feels rooted in tradition. Due to its popularity, especially during regular meal hours, customers should be prepared for a potential wait for a table, as one reviewer noted a 20-minute wait during a typical lunch period.
Lam's Kitchen specializes in a variety of noodle dishes, with the fish noodle soup and the stir-fried beef rice noodles highlighted in customer reviews. The fish noodle soup is characterized by its clear and light broth, offering a clean and subtle flavor. The fish itself is cooked directly in the soup, resulting in a firm, fresh, and mild taste. This dish is recommended for those who appreciate traditional and delicate flavors in their soup. On the other hand, the stir-fried beef rice noodles are described as a more memorable dish. Featuring wide, chewy noodles stir-fried with tender slices of beef, this dish boasts a distinct smoky aroma imparted by the wok, adding a layer of depth and authentic character to the meal.
In addition to these signature noodle dishes, Lam's Kitchen also offers other items such as chow fun with choysum, fried donuts, and beef and tendon look fun in soup. According to one review, the beef and tendon look fun soup was generally good and comforting but leaned towards being too salty for some palates. The chow fun with choysum, while featuring amazing noodle texture, was noted to be lacking in smokiness and overpowered by the sauce. The fried donuts, however, received positive feedback, suggesting a broader range of offerings beyond just noodles.
The service at Lam's Kitchen is reported to be quick, which is beneficial for those looking for a relatively efficient dining experience, especially during busy lunch hours. However, one customer mentioned an instance where they had to share condiments with a larger neighboring group, which they found a little awkward. This suggests that while the service is prompt, the close quarters of the small restaurant might occasionally lead to minor inconveniences.
A key feature of Lam's Kitchen is its commitment to providing an honest and traditional Chinese dining experience. While the cuisine may not be described as groundbreaking or innovative, it focuses on delivering authentic flavors and classic dishes that resonate with those seeking a genuine taste of Chinese home-style cooking. The emphasis on traditional preparations, such as cooking the fish directly in the soup and utilizing the wok for stir-frying, underscores this commitment to authenticity.

Lam’s Kitchen – A Traditional Chinese Noodle Shop in the Heart of Honolulu’s Chinatown Lam’s Kitchen is a small, old-fashioned noodle shop nestled in the bustling Chinatown district of Honolulu. The place seats only about 30 people, so even though we came during a regular lunch hour, my family and I had to wait around 20 minutes to get a table. I ordered the fish noodle soup – the broth was clear and light, with a clean, subtle flavor. The fish was not fried but cooked directly in the soup, making the meat firm, fresh, and pleasantly mild. It’s a good choice for those who enjoy traditional, light flavors. My husband and child had the stir-fried beef rice noodles – a more memorable dish. The wide, chewy noodles were stir-fried hot with tender slices of beef, and the dish carried a distinct smoky aroma from the wok – adding a layer of depth and authenticity. Lam’s Kitchen may not offer groundbreaking cuisine, but it delivers an honest, traditional Chinese dining experience. If you have time while visiting Chinatown, it’s worth trying at least once.
We got the chow fun with choysum, fried donuts and beef and tendon look fun in soup. The soup dish was good, comforting but leaning towards too salty for us. The chow fun was lacking smokiness, overpowered by the sauce. Texture of noodle was amazing tho. The donuts were great too. Service was quick. We sat next to a larger group and had to share condiments which was a little awkward.
They are known for their wok hei (breath of the wok) , but you really come here for fresh made look fun (steam rice noodle roll) . Most popular dish is their soup braised tendon/brisket, wonton, look fun. Other popular dishes are boiled liver with ginger onion, and jook (rice porridge). If you decide to get noodles instead of look fun , get the rice noodle on the side and try it with seaseme sauce / hot sauce. If you get jook, don’t forget to get a side of fried donut . Around lunch time you there most likely will be a wait.
