About Lam's Garden
Lam's Garden, situated at 8319 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132, USA, is a Chinese restaurant that has been a part of the local dining landscape. It can be reached by phone at (314) 993-3898 or +1 314-993-3898. As a Chinese restaurant, it offers a range of dishes that are commonly found in the category, aiming to provide convenient options for local customers seeking Chinese cuisine.
The environment of Lam's Garden, according to customer observations, is characterized by an interior that is described as "sparse and dated." This suggests a functional rather than a decorative approach to the dining space. While there is a physical location for dining, the emphasis may be more on practicality, which is common for many local Chinese restaurants that cater significantly to takeout orders. The ambiance is not highlighted as a primary draw, implying that patrons visit primarily for the food itself. The mention of a "dated interior" indicates that the establishment may not have undergone recent aesthetic updates, maintaining a more traditional or older appearance. This kind of setting often appeals to those looking for a no-frills, familiar dining or takeout experience.
In terms of services, Lam's Garden operates as a standard Chinese restaurant offering both dine-in and takeout options. A consistent positive note in customer feedback revolves around the staff, who are described as "extremely friendly." This indicates a welcoming and pleasant interaction for customers, which can significantly enhance the overall experience, regardless of other factors. The friendly demeanor of the staff can make a visit more enjoyable and contribute to a sense of community for regular patrons. While specific details about delivery services are not provided, the nature of a local Chinese restaurant often includes options for pickup, and potentially delivery through third-party services, catering to the convenience of the local population.
Lam's Garden features a menu that includes a selection of popular Chinese dishes. Among the appetizers, the egg roll has been noted as "nice," suggesting a satisfying taste and preparation. However, the crab rangoon has received less favorable reviews, described as "dry and skimpy on the filling," which indicates a potential area for improvement in consistency and quality. For main courses, the "spicy Sichuan chicken" was reviewed as "not spicy or numby" and having "very little flavor," suggesting that the dish might not fully deliver on the authentic characteristics expected from Sichuan cuisine, which is known for its bold and fiery profiles. In contrast, the orange chicken was noted as being "as expected," implying that this popular, often Americanized, dish met general expectations without significant deviation from its typical preparation.
A notable feature, and an area of concern highlighted by long-time customers, is the changing value proposition of the food. Patrons who have been visiting Lam's Garden for an extended period have observed that "the price has been climbing and portions getting so much smaller." This includes specific examples such as "3 very tiny wings for almost $6" for an order of fried chicken wings, and "side order of meat in teeny tiny boxes, also almost $6." These observations point to a perceived decrease in value, with customers expressing disappointment that the cost is no longer commensurate with the quantity of food received. This can be a significant factor for customers who consider a restaurant their "go-to" spot, as it impacts the overall affordability and satisfaction of their dining experience.
Regarding promotional information, the provided data does not explicitly state any current promotions or marketing campaigns by Lam's Garden. However, its long-standing presence in the community suggests that its primary "promotion" has historically been through word-of-mouth and customer loyalty, especially from those like the individual whose husband introduced them to the restaurant. The continued patronage, even by those who have moved further away, indicates a past ability to foster a loyal customer base. However, recent feedback regarding price increases and reduced portions could impact this organic form of promotion, as customer satisfaction directly influences future visits and recommendations. For local users, the appeal of Lam's Garden might lie in its accessibility and the friendly staff, making it a convenient option for a quick Chinese meal, particularly if specific menu items meet individual preferences.
In summary, Lam's Garden at 8319 Olive Blvd in St. Louis, MO, presents itself as a local Chinese restaurant offering a range of traditional dishes. Its environment is described as dated and sparse, focusing more on functionality than aesthetic appeal. The customer service is consistently praised for being "extremely friendly." While some staple items like the egg roll meet expectations, others, such as the crab rangoon and spicy Sichuan chicken, have received mixed reviews regarding flavor and portion size. A significant point of customer feedback highlights concerns over increasing prices and decreasing portion sizes, potentially impacting the overall value proposition. Despite these challenges, Lam's Garden continues to operate as a local option for Chinese cuisine, relying on its established presence and the positive interactions with its staff to attract and retain patrons.

Customer Reviews
Egg roll was nice, crab rangoon dry and skimpy on the filling, spicy Sichuan chicken wasn't spicy or numby, very little flavor. Sparce and dated interior. Extremely friendly staff. We also had orange chicken that was as expected.
My husband introduced me to Lam’s, this has been our go-to even when we moved further away. However, the price has been climbing and portions getting so much smaller. Spent almost $40 on a combo plate, veggie steamed rice, and 2 orders of fried chicken wings. You get 3 very tiny wings for almost $6. Side order of meat in teeny tiny boxes, also almost $6. Very disappointed, not worth the trip anymore.
I grew up in UCity in the 90's & Lams was never our family go-to for Chinese but I don't remember it being this bad... Hard rice (both white & fried) watery gravy, bland wings & noodles, bitter crab rangoon. This place has been in business way too long to not have consistent quality food.
They don't accept electronic payments,....glass with tiny hole to pass money thru...I don't patronize such places....won't ever go back
It has been a while since we stopped here for takeout. Fortunately, we stopped elsewhere also on the way home.
