About Kwei Fei at Charleston Pour House

Welcome to Kwei Fei, a unique Chinese restaurant experience located within the vibrant setting of Charleston Pour House at 1977 Maybank Hwy, Charleston, SC. As a distinguished establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Kwei Fei specializes in bringing the fiery and flavorful tradition of authentic Sichuan cuisine to the local Charleston community and visitors alike.

The concept of Kwei Fei being situated within Charleston Pour House suggests a potentially lively and integrated dining atmosphere. Charleston Pour House is known as a venue that often features live music and a casual, community-oriented vibe. This integration could mean that Kwei Fei offers a dining experience that goes beyond just the food, potentially incorporating the energetic ambiance of the Pour House. Customers might expect a setting that is less traditional than a standalone Chinese restaurant and more aligned with a social gathering spot.

According to one enthusiastic customer, Kwei Fei provides a gateway to "Authentic Sichuan food," leaving them "hooked" on the experience. This review emphasizes the bold and layered flavors characteristic of Sichuan cooking, particularly highlighting the presence of spice. The reviewer specifically recommends Kwei Fei to both Charleston residents and visitors, suggesting it's a noteworthy culinary destination. The mention of a "Great vibe inside" and "super friendly" staff further contributes to a positive image of the restaurant's atmosphere and service. The recommendation to try the "Sichuan Sunday," described as having a "perfect balance of sweet, salty and spice," offers a specific insight into a signature dish that encapsulates the complexity of Sichuan flavors.

However, it is crucial to present a balanced view by considering all available feedback. Another customer reported a drastically different experience, stating they wished they could give the restaurant "zero stars." This highly negative review described the food as "simply inedible" and among the "worst" Chinese cuisine the reviewer, someone with experience in the cuisine, had ever encountered. The significant cost of over $100 for the meal, with most of it left uneaten, underscores the depth of their dissatisfaction. Furthermore, this reviewer cited "equally disappointing" service, including a 15-minute wait for seating and an additional hour for the food to arrive. This paints a picture of significant issues with both food quality and the efficiency of service, leading the reviewer to conclude it was a "complete waste of time and money" and vowing not to return.

The stark contrast between these two reviews suggests a potential inconsistency in the quality of food and service at Kwei Fei. While one customer raves about the authentic and flavorful Sichuan dishes and the positive atmosphere, another describes a completely unacceptable dining experience. This discrepancy highlights the importance for potential customers to be aware of this range of feedback.

To understand the environment of Kwei Fei better, one might need to consider the typical setting of Charleston Pour House. It's likely that Kwei Fei operates within a designated area of the venue, perhaps with its own distinct seating or integrated into the overall space. The "Great vibe inside" mentioned in the positive review suggests a lively and perhaps casual atmosphere, potentially influenced by the Pour House's usual ambiance, which often includes music and a social setting.

In terms of services, Kwei Fei functions as a restaurant serving authentic Sichuan cuisine. Based on the negative review, table service is provided, although the experience described was marred by long wait times for seating and food. The positive review mentions "super friendly" staff, indicating that the service can be pleasant and welcoming, at least in some instances. It would be beneficial to know if Kwei Fei offers takeout or reservation options, which are not mentioned in the provided text. Given its location within Charleston Pour House, it might be worth inquiring about the relationship between the two establishments regarding seating and service protocols.

In conclusion, Kwei Fei at Charleston Pour House offers the experience of authentic Sichuan cuisine within a potentially lively and social setting. While one customer enthusiastically praised the flavorful food, vibrant atmosphere, and friendly service, another reported a severely negative experience with inedible food and extremely poor service. First time eating Authentic Sichuan food and I’m hooked. I love the spice, so many layered of flavor and just amazing. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Charleston or anyone who lives in Charleston. Great vibe inside, and the staff super friendly. I will definitely be back!!! Oh and get the Sichuan Sunday. Perfect balance of sweet, salty and spice.

I wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. The food was simply inedible. As someone who enjoys and has experience with Chinese cuisine, I can confidently say this was among the worst I've ever had. We spent over $100 and left most of it uneaten. The service was equally disappointing. We waited 15 minutes to be seated and then another hour for our food. This was a complete waste of time and money. I will absolutely not be back.

I normally don’t review places but I feel like Kwei Fei is well deserving.I am a chef and have been to some of the top restaurants in the U.S/world and this has to be one of my top favorites! The moment I walked in and saw the reviews written on the walls, then sitting down listening to teen mortgage I knew it was going to be a great experience. The food was extremely flavorful, the spice and Sichuan are heavily focused but very well balanced, especially with the cocktails (I highly recommend the Black Hole Sun). The whole ambiance of the place being upscale with the punk rock undertone, reflects perfectly in both the front and back of the house. I am unfortunately from out of town, but will definitely be back anytime I visit Charleston again, highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique dining experience.

This place has no AC so you're sweating while eating. I had high hopes for this restaurant but if you know what Sichuan food is supposed to taste like I'd avoid it at all costs. All of the food was missing a Sichuan aroma and flavor. Not to mention it wasn't actually spicy at all. Nothing was actually spicy so that's a huge red flag. Now if you're just a regular person from the south who has no idea what to expect you might enjoy this. None of the dishes packed much flavor at all. Either too salty or too much vinegar. Also the dumplings weren't dumplings they were ravioli. The filling was overcooked and had no fat in the meat so it was also dry. Overall super disappointing for a place that seems to be highly rated everywhere. The people rating this highly have no idea what they're talking about since it was extremely far from what it should taste like Edit: Owner gaslighting me into thinking there was AC. THERE WAS NOT it was incredibly hot and muggy inside on a day which was over 90F. Also trying to psychoanalize me is insane behavior coming from a business. It's like some tween redditor got their feeling hurt so they gotta go to the persons profile to have a comeback. Their reply just shows this place doesn't care about helpful criticism and will not improve over time. What an incredibly pathetic reply. Oh well their loss if they don't want to improve.

I like this restaurant! I had never been until I went. It was so good I was like whoa! They got this spicy chicken called la zi JI that I like a lot when I get to there. My favorite dish is the broccolini but it might be the dumplings too. Also the fortune cookie ice cream is very delicious- not me eating 3 bowls in one sitting! 😜💯 the vibes are always on point and the woodwork behind the bar is simply awesome, my father likes woodwork pointed it out and I agreed. They got innovative cocktails
