About Kwang Chow Restaurant
Welcome to Kwang Chow Restaurant, a Chinese dining establishment located at 7980 SE King Rd in Portland, Oregon. Serving the local community as a Chinese Restaurant, Kwang Chow offers a range of Chinese culinary options for both dine-in and takeout customers. You can contact them at (503) 659-1160 or their mobile number, +1 503-659-1160, to place an order or inquire about their menu and services.
Based on recent customer feedback, the environment of Kwang Chow Restaurant is described as having a dated atmosphere, with one reviewer mentioning it feels "30 years old." This suggests a more traditional or perhaps less modern décor. While the ambiance is part of the overall dining experience, it's important to note that the primary focus for many patrons is the quality of the food and service. The review mentioning the dated atmosphere also highlights a potential area for improvement in terms of the restaurant's physical appearance and updating its interior to create a more contemporary or refreshed dining space.
In terms of services, Kwang Chow Restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout options to cater to different customer preferences. The availability of takeout service allows patrons to enjoy their meals at home or in other locations, providing convenience and flexibility. However, one review raised concerns about the in-house service, specifically mentioning a single waitress who, while pleasant, was forgetful, leading to delays in receiving items like tea. This indicates a potential issue with staffing levels or service efficiency, particularly during busy periods. Customers considering dining in might want to be aware of this feedback regarding the service speed and attentiveness.
The features of Kwang Chow Restaurant are primarily its menu of Chinese dishes. However, recent customer reviews present a mixed perspective on the quality and flavor of the food. One reviewer who opted for takeout expressed significant disappointment, describing the taste of multiple dishes, including Chicken Lo Mein, Beef Lo Mein, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Orange Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Beef and Broccoli, as "bland." This is a critical point of feedback, as flavor is a fundamental aspect of any dining experience. The same review also noted a lack of beef in the Beef and Broccoli dish, suggesting potential inconsistencies in ingredient portions.
Conversely, the same reviewer found the Salt and Pepper Shrimp to be "delicious," indicating that there might be some standout dishes on the menu. However, the overall sentiment of this review was negative, with the customer stating that "everything else was a miss" and that the prices were "outrageous for the actual lack of flavor." This comparison to "much better Chinese places in the neighborhood" suggests that local diners have alternative options that they perceive as offering better quality and value.
Another review offered a slightly more positive note, stating that "the food is good." However, this positive comment was juxtaposed with the negative experience regarding the slow service and the dated atmosphere, ultimately leading the customer to conclude that they would opt for takeout in the future and would "definitely not be eating inside again." This suggests that while the food might have some redeeming qualities for some palates, the overall dine-in experience was unsatisfactory due to the service and environment.
Considering these reviews, it's challenging to definitively highlight specific positive features of Kwang Chow Restaurant beyond the potential for some dishes, like the Salt and Pepper Shrimp, to be well-received. The feedback indicates a need for improvement in food flavor consistency, service efficiency, and the overall ambiance of the dining area. Potential customers should weigh these recent experiences when deciding whether to dine at Kwang Chow Restaurant or explore other Chinese dining options in the Portland area.

Customer Reviews
The food is good the atmosphere is 30 years old 1 waitress and she kept forgetting our tea so that took forever she's pleasant but forgetful. If we come back another time we will get it to go we will definitely not be eating inside again
Yikes! I'm not sure how this place has so many good reviews, maybe it's better in the restaurant and we got to go. Everything tasted so bland. We tried chicken lo mein, beef lo mein, salt and pepper shrimp, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, beef, and broccoli. There was hardly any beef in beef and broccoli. Salt and pepper shrimp were delicious, and everything else was a miss! The prices are outrageous for the actual lack of flavor. There are much better Chinese places in the neighborhood.
This was the worse restaurant experience i have had in a long time. First I have seen gas station restrooms in far better shape. Toilet was back up, and I won't go any farther than the description. What makes matter worse, my wife and I were celebrating our 26 year anniversary with my daughter's job promotion. The food was awful. My glass of ice tea came with the smallest slice of a dried up lemon 🍋 and they brought out our dinner in the to go containers. My daughter asked for a container for her left over shrimp and they gave her a PLASTIC BAG!! Everything on the table was either stale, cold, or overcooked. Wife spent over 74.00 dollars on 4 servings of food and it wasn't even enough to feed 2 people. One waitress for entire restaurant and she had attitude. We have gone here off and on for last 20 years, and just see this place going down hill slowly but surely. When they bring you your high priced dinner in to go cartons and your soda in cans it's only a matter of time before this place will be a place of the past. We will never go back here again.
I’ve been coming to this place since my childhood years. Tonight I am sad to say will be my last visit!!! I went hear for celebration for a job promotion and I am absolutely disappointed…. I know the place has been needing some remodeling done for awhile which they’ve gotten new table and some new chair but the grease build up on the outside of it was profoundly gross!! I see why they are still in business though because they rip people off on portion sizes!! I normally get the same thing every time I go this time I just ordered double and let me tell you they brought the same amount of food out!!! And they are too cheap to put it on plates they serve it to you in containers!!! Let me tell you the most classy part about it I needed a container for my shrimp because I didn’t want to use the open cardboard boat they put in on she brings me a small garbage bag for my shrimp!! The bathroom smelled like rotten sewage!!! Very dissatisfied with being over charged and a loyal customer for 20+ years I will NOT be back! I will ensure I do not refer anyone else here anymore after this!!
So lucky to live a short walk from here — huge portions of savory and umami meals and an incredibly friendly staff. We have been here multiple times and will be back again — everything on the menu is lovely but highly recommend the orange chicken, pan fried noodles, one of the best egg flower soups I’ve had the honor to try and the incredible variety of the menu.
