About KW Cafe
Welcome to KW Cafe, a Chinese restaurant located at 19101 Colima Rd, Rowland Heights, CA 91748, USA. Categorized as a Chinese Restaurant, KW Cafe presents a unique dining experience by operating in the style of a Hong Kong cafe. This means that in addition to traditional Cantonese cuisine, diners can also find American dishes and a selection of dim sum on the menu, offering a diverse range of options to cater to various tastes and preferences within the local community of Rowland Heights.
Based on recent customer reviews, KW Cafe appears to be a popular spot, even on a Thursday night, with one reviewer noting that the restaurant was about 90% full around 6:30 PM. This level of occupancy suggests that KW Cafe is a well-regarded establishment that attracts a significant number of diners, indicating its appeal to the local community.
One of the frequently mentioned aspects of KW Cafe is the generous portion sizes of their dishes. A customer who ordered four different items commented that all were in "good quantity," suggesting that diners can expect to receive substantial servings, providing good value for their money and potentially leading to leftovers for another meal. This is a significant draw for many patrons who appreciate getting a satisfying amount of food when they dine out.
The taste of the food at KW Cafe has also been generally well-received. The reviewer who sampled four dishes provided specific feedback on each: the Braised String Bean ($14.99) was noted as tasty but a little salty, with the intention to request less salt on future orders. The Tofu with Double Mushroom ($17.99) was simply described as "tasted good," with a specific mention of the tofu being crispy on the outside and very soft on the inside, highlighting a pleasant textural contrast. The Shrimp with Honey Walnut ($21.99) was also rated as "tasted good," with the shrimp being crispy and of a good size. Lastly, the Dried Scallop with Egg Fried Rice ($16.99) was found to be tasty but also a bit salty, echoing the feedback on the string beans. This detailed breakdown suggests that while the food is generally enjoyable, there might be some inconsistencies in seasoning levels for certain dishes.
Another reviewer explicitly described KW Cafe as a "Hong Kong style cafe" and further elaborated on the variety of cuisines offered, including Cantonese, American, and some dim sum. This confirms the fusion aspect of the restaurant's menu, providing a broader appeal to diners with different culinary preferences. Whether someone is in the mood for classic Cantonese dishes, familiar American fare, or the small, flavorful bites of dim sum, KW Cafe aims to provide options to satisfy these cravings.
A crucial point of feedback from one of the reviewers is that the "service is a bit slow." This is an important aspect for potential customers to be aware of, especially if they are dining during busy hours or have time constraints. The reviewer advises patrons to "be brave and speak up to flag waiter down," suggesting a more proactive approach might be necessary to get attention and service. However, they also noted a positive aspect: "Once order is taken, food starts to come quickly!" This indicates that while the initial interaction and order placement might be slow, the kitchen is efficient in preparing and delivering the food once the order is processed.
Despite the reported slowness in service, the reviewer concludes by stating that the dishes are "tasty," reinforcing the positive feedback on the food quality. This suggests a trade-off where diners might need to exercise patience with the service but can look forward to enjoying flavorful meals once they are served.

Three of us went on Thursday night around 6:30pm, it was 90% full. Ordered 4 dishes, all dishes were in good quantity and tested good. 1. Braised String Bean, $14.99. Tasted good but a little salty, will ask less salty next time. 2. Tofu with Double Mushroom, $17.99. Tasted good. Tofu was crispy outside and very soft inside. 3. Shrimp with Honey Walnut, $21.99. Tasted good, shrimps were crispy outside and were in good size. 4. Dried Scallop with Egg Fried Rice, $16.99. Tasted good but a little salty.
Hong Kong style cafe. Cantonese, American, and some dim sum. Generous portions of food. Service is a bit slow. Be brave and speak up to flag waiter down. Once order is taken, food starts to come quickly! Tasty dishes.
Had lunch with our brother and sister-in-law at KW Cafe, their usual go-to spot for Cantonese food. We visited on a Saturday noon, and the place was bustling with activity. Despite the crowd, we were seated fairly quickly. We ordered a variety of classic Cantonese dishes: blanched chicken, chicken casserole, gai lan with dried fish, string beans with minced pork, and salt and pepper pork chop. The portions were on the smaller side, and while the flavors were decent, they leaned a bit salty. The standout dish was definitely the blanched chicken, which had tender meat and a good flavor. The milk tea was just okay; it didn’t seem like they used the traditional silk stocking method to filter the tea. Parking was convenient with a large parking lot available. Prices were reasonable, especially compared to similar spots in the San Gabriel Valley. Overall, KW Cafe offers a decent Cantonese dining experience with some hits and misses. The blanched chicken is worth trying, and the reasonable prices make it a good option for a casual meal.
If you’re looking for authentic Hong Kong style dining, this is a great place to try. Both the ambience and food makes you feel like you’re in a casual HK cafe with both authentic Cantonese food as well as HK style “Western” food options. Service is quite variable depending on how busy they are but overall good dining experience. For a party of 3, we paid about $65.
Food is really good here compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. They use high quality ingredients and give you generous portions. The downside is that drink refill service is not very good. I have to get out of my seat and ask the wait staff. For lunch, they only give you 1 refill and it is mostly ice. I think they should remove this restriction and be on par with the surrounding restaurants. Eat, drink, and be merry. As with all Chinese restaurants, it is loud, but everyone enjoying the company and food. I always tip 15% or more...even if I do have to get out of my seat to ask for refills. :-) maybe next time, they will refill without my asking.
