About Kung POW!

Located at 500 NW 21st Ave in Portland, Oregon, Kung POW! stands out as a Chinese restaurant that caters to a diverse range of dietary preferences, offering both vegan and meat options on its menu. Based on customer reviews, Kung POW! is appreciated for its delicious food, fair pricing relative to portion sizes, and friendly service. The restaurant also provides convenient options for online ordering, including pick-up and delivery, making it accessible to a wider range of customers. While one review noted some minor drawbacks regarding the comfort of seating and a draft in the dining area, these were seemingly overshadowed by the positive aspects of the food and service.

The atmosphere at Kung POW! is described by one reviewer as "not the comfiest table seating" and slightly drafty near the bathroom. However, this same reviewer also noted that these minor discomforts were easily forgotten once the food arrived, indicating that the quality of the cuisine takes precedence. Another reviewer found the dining room to be "super clean, cozy and inviting when you walk in," presenting a more positive perspective on the ambiance. This suggests that while there might be some variability in seating comfort in certain areas, the overall cleanliness and welcoming feel of the dining room are notable features.

In terms of services, Kung POW! appears to prioritize customer convenience and satisfaction. They offer options for online ordering, which caters to those who prefer to enjoy their meals at home or pick them up. This modern approach to ordering enhances accessibility and convenience for busy individuals. The positive feedback regarding phone order handling, even close to closing time, demonstrates a commitment to accommodating customers. The reviewer who placed a last-minute order praised the kindness of the staff and the careful preparation of their food despite the late hour. This dedication to service, even under pressure, is a significant positive aspect of Kung POW!.

A key feature of Kung POW! is its ability to cater to both vegan and meat eaters, making it an excellent choice for groups with diverse dietary needs. One reviewer specifically highlighted their appreciation for a menu that satisfies both themselves (presumably vegan) and their dining companion (presumably a meat eater), noting that both their chosen dishes were incredibly enjoyable. This inclusive approach to menu design is a significant advantage, ensuring that everyone in a group can find something delicious to eat. The fair pricing for the portion sizes is another notable feature. One customer mentioned that the portions were "quite fair for the $16 price," and were even large enough to provide leftovers for someone who typically doesn't have any. This suggests that Kung POW! offers good value for the money.

Specific dishes that have garnered positive attention include the "vegetable trio" (broccoli, shiitake mushrooms, snow peas with white rice and spring rolls). One reviewer who ordered this for delivery was impressed by the "huge pieces of freshly cut mushrooms" and appreciated the care taken in preparing the food, even when ordered close to closing time. This highlights the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail in the kitchen. While other specific dishes are not detailed in these reviews, the overall positive sentiment towards the food suggests a consistent level of deliciousness across the menu.

One potential con mentioned by a reviewer relates to the operating hours and the perceived unwelcomeness of arriving too close to the closing time (9:30 pm despite a 10 pm closing). This suggests that while the service during operating hours is lovely, customers might want to arrive with ample time before closing to ensure a fully welcoming experience. However, this seems to be an isolated observation and does not detract from the overall positive feedback regarding the service during regular hours.

The fact that one reviewer intends to order again and is placing Kung POW! in their top three of Chinese restaurants they order from speaks volumes about the positive impression the restaurant has made. The combination of wonderful food and service has clearly created a loyal customer. The availability of online ordering for both pick-up and delivery further enhances its appeal to a broad customer base in the Portland area, offering convenience alongside quality.

In conclusion, Kung POW! on NW 21st Ave in Portland offers a delightful Chinese dining experience characterized by delicious food that caters to both vegan and meat preferences, fair prices with generous portions, and friendly service. While the dining room ambiance might have minor drawbacks for some, the overall cleanliness and inviting atmosphere are appreciated. The convenience of online ordering for pick-up or delivery adds to its appeal. For local users seeking a Chinese restaurant that is inclusive, offers great value, and provides both excellent food and service, Kung POW! is definitely worth a visit or an online order.

Came by for Chinese New Year. Atmosphere: Not the comfiest table seating and a little drafty by the bathroom, but I forgot about that once our food came. Price: The portions were quite fair for the $16 price. I brought someone who typically never has leftovers and they had enough chicken for a snack the next day. Food: I love when a place has both vegan AND meat on the menu so my company is happy. The dishes we ordered both had us happy dancing in our seats. Cons: Hours- The service was lovely, but I did notice that it is not welcomed to arrive at 9:30 despite the closing time being 10pm.

Amazing Chinese Food and Service! I grabbed a delivery order of the vegetable trio - broccoli, shitake mushrooms, snow peas with white rice and spring rolls! It came with huge pieces of freshly cut mushrooms! It was a last minute order and it was 30 min before they closed. I appreciate how kind they were taking my order over the phone and how nicely my food was made inspite of this! They have options for online ordering for pick-up or delivery service. The dining room is super clean, cozy and inviting when you walk in. I will definitely be ordering again and putting this in my top 3 of Chinese restaurants I order from! Thank you for such wonderful food and service!

It’s nice to see a Chinese Restaurant that has not stooped to the Orange Chicken & Sweet and Sour all you can eat buffet quality. This place is great. I only had the Kung Pow Chicken for lunch. Medium. And their medium is the real deal medium Hot. Vegetables were cooked correctly and still had texture and snap. Chicken was not breaded which was nice to see. One of the better Chinese places in Portland.

Very large portions. On Xmas Day I ordered a small hot and sour soup, white rice and hot honey chicken. I had food for midnight snack and the next day. It was still delicious after reheating.

Super-nice staff and the best Hot and Sour Soup! Even gluten free! I'm mostly a vegetarian but I make an exception once a month to order their hot and sour soup. It is soul food. Their vegetable dishes are delicious and well prepared too. The decor is warm and relaxing. Go To This Restaurant. You won't regret it.
