About Kumo Hibachi & Sushi

Kumo Hibachi & Sushi, located at 6396 S Westnedge Ave, Portage, MI 49002, offers Japanese cuisine including hibachi and sushi. You can contact them at (269) 321-8870 or +1 269-321-8870.

Based on customer reviews, Kumo Hibachi & Sushi has a trendy and inviting atmosphere, creating a positive first impression. However, the service and food quality have received mixed to negative feedback.

Customers have reported extremely slow and indifferent service, with long wait times and a lack of attentiveness from the staff. One customer even received soup instead of lemonade, indicating a significant lack of attention to detail.

While the sushi is generally praised for its quality, it is noted that the prices are per piece, which can quickly add up. The steak hibachi is criticized for using choice-grade meat, which is considered inadequate for the price. The ramen is also a disappointment, made with freeze-dried noodles.

Other dishes, such as the miso soup and salad, have also received negative feedback. The miso soup is described as tasting more like chicken broth, and the salad features less-than-fresh lettuce.

Overall, while the atmosphere is appealing, the high prices do not reflect the quality of the food or service. Customers have reported frustrating experiences and a feeling of underdelivery.

Terrible experience at Kumo Hibachi Grill. We sat waiting for what felt like forever before anyone even acknowledged us. The service was sluggish and indifferent, as if we were an afterthought. When our drinks finally arrived, I took a sip of what was supposed to be lemonade—only to realize it was literally soup. Yes, actual soup instead of lemonade. At that point, it was clear that attention to detail and customer service were not priorities here. Between the long wait, poor service, and the baffling drink mix-up, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Definitely won’t be returning.

Kumo Hibachi & Sushi has a trendy and inviting atmosphere that makes a great first impression. Unfortunately, the service didn’t quite match the vibe—our server was hard to understand and very slow, which made for a frustrating dining experience. As for the food, there were some highlights and a few letdowns. The sushi was actually quite good, but it's important to note that it's priced per piece, which adds up quickly. The steak hibachi featured choice-grade meat, so the quality wasn't quite what you'd expect at this price point. The ramen was a disappointment, made with freeze-dried noodles. While the portion was large, the quality made it hard to enjoy. The miso soup tasted more like chicken broth than traditional miso, and the salad featured less-than-fresh lettuce, though the dressing was decent. Overall, while the ambiance is cool and there are a few decent menu items, the high prices just don't reflect the quality of the food or service. There's potential here, but it feels underdelivered.

I recently celebrated my birthday at Kumo Hibachi and Sushi, and once again, it exceeded my expectations. The food was phenomenal, as always; fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The hospitality was top-notch, making the entire experience even more special. The staff went out of their way to ensure a memorable evening, not just for me but for all the patrons around. It’s one of my favorite go-to spots for a reason, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for delicious sushi and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

I live 40 mins away from here and order take out occasionally. Used to sit down here all the time and it used to be great. Well this time, I had 3 hibachi entrees ordered. Went and picked them up, got home, all 3 entrees were wrong completely. Drove 40 mins back to the store after my wife had called for replacement. Wasn't told to bring food back in. Was asked when I arrived if I had the food with me. I didn't. Its just pretty sad they couldn't get 3 entrees correct or double check the food before putting it in the bag with the receipt stapled to the top. So I spent 100 on the food plus a 10 dollar tip because I was feeling generous. I spent 40 dollars in fuel for both trips to make it up there. Also wasted 1 hour 10 mins for the first trip up there since it was a bust. Which with what I do for work that equates to about 140 dollars of time. So basically for this screw up, I wasted 160 dollars and wasn't even given the decency of a 20 percent discount or something along those lines. This is not the way I do business, and I don't expect a reputable company to do business that way either. Whether it's the food industry or not. I'd very much rather go up to Kyoto where the food is much better and you are treated with decency and respect.
