About Kue's Chinese Kitchen and Bar
Welcome to Kue's Chinese Kitchen and Bar, a distinguished establishment within the "Chinese Restaurant" category, located at 201 W Main St in Alhambra, California. This restaurant appears to offer a unique dining experience that blends traditional Chinese flavors with a potentially more refined setting. Based on initial impressions from customer reviews, Kue's aims to provide more than just a typical casual Chinese meal, suggesting a step towards an upscale ambiance and a curated menu.
Regarding the environment, one reviewer described the restaurant as having "a bit of an upscale ambiance." This suggests that Kue's Chinese Kitchen and Bar might feature a more sophisticated decor and atmosphere compared to standard Chinese takeout or casual dining spots. While specific details about the interior design, lighting, or seating arrangements are not provided, the mention of an upscale feel implies a focus on creating a more elegant and comfortable dining space for patrons. Notably, one of the significant advantages mentioned is that Kue's has its "own parking," which can be a valuable amenity in the Alhambra area, enhancing the convenience for diners.
In terms of services, Kue's Chinese Kitchen and Bar functions as a full-service restaurant. Customers can expect to be seated and served by attentive staff. One reviewer specifically praised the servers as being "very polite and attentive," indicating a focus on providing good customer service. The restaurant is mentioned as being "typically open weekday evenings," but one reviewer also visited for lunch on a Sunday, suggesting potential variability in their operating hours. It's advisable to check their current hours of operation, possibly by using the provided phone numbers, (626) 670-4038 and +1 626-670-4038. Given the "and Bar" in their name, it is highly likely that Kue's also offers a selection of beverages, including alcoholic options, to complement their food menu.
The menu at Kue's Chinese Kitchen and Bar features a variety of dishes, some of which have been specifically mentioned and reviewed:
- Mala Chicken: This dish was described as "chewy with a little kick," suggesting a flavorful preparation with a hint of spice and a particular texture.
- Watercress with Fish Cake: This dish was noted as "aromatic," with the fish cake being described as "fresh and chewy," indicating attention to the quality and texture of the ingredients.
- Coconut Soup with Black Chicken: This soup was highlighted for having a "fragrant of coconut water" and featuring black chicken, suggesting a rich and aromatic broth with a specific type of poultry.
- Crispy Calamari: This is a popular appetizer, and while one reviewer ordered it, they did not provide specific feedback on its quality.
- Dongpo Pork Belly: This dish was described as "incredibly tender," but the reviewer found the "cut of meat was too fatty" for their personal preference, noting it felt "too oily" even with rice. However, they acknowledged that others might appreciate the texture and flavors.
- Eggplant Salted Fish Claypot: This is another dish that was ordered by a reviewer, but no specific comments were made about its taste or quality.
One reviewer felt that the food was "a little pricey" and admitted feeling like they "could get the same dishes for a lower price or bigger portions elsewhere," although they did concede that "the ingredients taste fresh." This suggests that while the quality of ingredients might be a strong point, the pricing might be on the higher end compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area, and portion sizes might be moderate.
Another reviewer, while finding the Dongpo pork belly not to their liking due to its richness, mentioned "good overall service and decent food." This indicates a generally positive experience beyond the specific dish they critiqued.

While some dishes like the Mala Chicken, Watercress with Fish Cake, and Coconut Soup received positive remarks for their flavor and quality, the Dongpo Pork Belly was noted for its richness, which might appeal to some but not others. The food is great! The mala chicken was chewy with a little kick. Watercress with fish cake was aromatic. The fish cake was fresh and chewy. The coconut soup had black chicken and fragrant of coconut water. The servers were very polite and attentive. And they have their own parking. Overall a great experience! Highly recommended 👍
I went to this restaurant on a Sunday after I conveniently saw it across from Alhambra's farmer's market. I ate lunch here, but the restaurant is typically open weekday evenings. At first impression, the restaurant had a bit of an upscale ambiance. The food is a little pricey, and I admittedly feel like I could get the same dishes for a lower price or bigger portions elsewhere, but the ingredients taste fresh. I got the crispy calamari, Dongpo pork belly, and the eggplant salted fish claypot. I found the Dongpo pork belly to be incredibly tender, although the cut of meat was too fatty for me. I ate the pork belly with rice and it still felt too oily and was difficult to eat for my own tastes, although some might like the texture and flavors. To be honest, the restaurant's food did not stand out to me. My lunch total, with drinks and rice, came out to a total of about $81. Good overall service and decent food.
We were curious to try this new Chinese restaurant open 3 weeks ago. We like the outdoor seating with our dog. The waiter was very nice to turn on the heater for us. Overall the food was delicious. I took a star away because I was disappointed that they added the big bean sprout with the big yellow bean (大豆芽菜) to the Beef Chow Fun. It is kind of ruined the authentic Beef Chow Fun of its texture and taste. Otherwise the Beef Chow Fun was good and well seasoned with the wok flavor. It's quite pricey for lunch.
For some reason I was recommended the garlic noodles during happy hour. They were so greasy I couldn't even finish them and felt like throwing up. For some reason they were $12 and didn't have anything in them. They really should take it off their menu. I'd recommend Panda Express over this. It's nice that they are open late though.
Went there for dinner with the family. Love the food here. My favorite is the squab, bbq pork and the claypot rice. Super crispy rice on the bottom of the pot. Definitely a place i will go back with my family.
