About Kozy Kitchen 食堂
Welcome to Kozy Kitchen 食堂, a Chinese Restaurant located at 728 Commonwealth Ave in Boston. As the name suggests, Kozy Kitchen offers a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine. Despite being described as a "little hole in the wall," this restaurant is clearly a local favorite, even bustling with delivery orders.
Kozy Kitchen prides itself on serving freshly prepared dishes, with several reviewers highlighting the fact that their noodles, dumpling wrappers, and baos are all handmade. This dedication to traditional methods results in high-quality and flavorful food. One satisfied customer described their meal as the best they'd had since leaving home.
The menu at Kozy Kitchen is extensive, offering a variety of options from noodle soups to dumplings and fried rice, ensuring there's something for everyone. Popular dishes include the 红烧牛肉面 (hong shao beef noodle soup), praised for its chewy "QQ" noodles and tender beef; the 孜然羊肉 (cumin lamb), noted for its spiciness and classic garnishes; and the 小笼包 (juicy pork buns), which one reviewer now considers a favorite in Boston due to their thin skin and juicy, meaty filling.
Other highly recommended items include the 韭菜水饺 (pan-fried chive dumplings) and 韭菜盒子 (chive pockets), both featuring a perfectly flakey and crispy exterior with a flavorful and steamy interior. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, be sure to ask for their homemade chili oil to enhance any dish.
The service at Kozy Kitchen is consistently praised as welcoming and friendly. One reviewer recounted how the owner personally assisted their table with menu options and was generally very sweet. This personal touch adds to the overall "kozy" experience.
While one initial review mentioned a slight disappointment with the cut of beef in the noodle soup and a lack of noodles in another soup, they still expressed a willingness to return and try other dishes. This suggests that while there might be minor inconsistencies, the overall quality and variety of the food are compelling.

Food is decent. A little hole in the wall but the hong shao beef noodle soup was decent. Wish it actually gave me the brisket and not the shank, so it was a little misleading. The pork belly soup noodle broth barely had noodles. Overall, I’d visit again to try the other stuff. But maybe not the pork belly soup.
A warm, ‘kozy’ restaurant that I would absolutely recommend for authentic Chinese food! This no-frills restaurant was still busy with deliveries when I arrived with my party, but the person working (which we learned was the owner) there was so welcoming and friendly. When we arrived at around 7 at night, it was pretty easy to find street parking on the side streets. When my table with some elderly had some trouble with the QR code scanning for menus, she handed us actual menus without asking which I was very grateful for as many places don’t do paper menus anymore. We ended up ordering the beef noodle soup, cumin lamb, juicy pork buns aka soup dumplings, chive and pork pan fried dumplings, fish filet with sour napa, and chive pockets. All of these items arrived so quickly and were so delicious! One of my friends said it was the first time he had something this good since he left home. The 红烧牛肉面 beef noodle soup came steaming hot with chewy 好弹牙 ‘QQ’ texture noodles and the beef had the perfect amount of chew and soft tenderness. The 孜然羊肉 cumin lamb was amazingly spicy with all the classic garnishes including onion and cilantro, while the 韭菜水饺 pan fried (pan fried is an extra +$1) chive dumplings and 韭菜盒子chive pockets were crowd favorites for sure! When we were chatting with the owner, she was so sweet and let us know that all the noodles, dumpling wrappers, and baos are handmade! The pan fried chive dumplings and chive pockets had that perfect 酥皮 flakey crispy outside but super flavorful, fragrant, steamy hot inside. The 小笼包 juicy pork buns is now one of my favorites in the Boston area as the skin was thin but buns were super juicy and meaty. Tip—ask for their homemade chili oil for an extra kick on all your dishes. I personally am not a big fish fan, but I tried a bit of the 东北酸菜鱼 fish filet with sour Napa and as a new dish to me, I would describe it as tasty but quite sour. My table found the fish quite good and the sour Napa to be fresh especially as soup with white rice. We also tried their handmade buns at the end of dinner and it was the perfect end to a 10/10 dinner. Our total came to around $80 dollars before tip. I will definetly be back to try out the rest of their extensive menu—which has something for everyone from lo mein to dumplings to fried rice!
The restaurant is very homey with relaxing music and very polite staff. They serve your food very fast and cook it to a fine quality. The restaurant uses a very efficient online ordering system, which makes it the perfect spot for when you need a quick bite. I got the Pork Meatballs with Napa and Thin Foon. It was perfect for the cold weather as it had a very deep, salty soy flavored broth and very sizeable, tender meatballs. The Napa cabbage complimented the dish with its fresh subdued flavors.
Small and cozy. Price is definitely reasonable. Taste great too. No complain and will visit again👍🏻
I was initially worried when I saw this small restaurant empty, but I had nothing to be concerned about. The food was delicious and homely, and the staff were very polite. We ordered the spicy sesame noodles. The noodles seemed handmade, and they were so smooth and bouncy. The sauce was strong with the sesame paste, and the spice was a slow but nicely strong burn. Highly recommend this. We also ordered the homestyle tofu. This was lighter but delicious all the same. It reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking a bit. Overall, I loved the food. I’ll be sure to come back again to try out more of their menu!
