About Kowloon Village

Kowloon Village is a Chinese restaurant situated at 190 Main St, Bethel, ME 04217, USA. This establishment serves the local community with a range of Chinese cuisine, offering both dine-in and potentially takeout services. You can contact Kowloon Village at (207) 824-3707 or their mobile number +1 207-824-3707 for inquiries about their menu, hours, or to place an order if they offer takeout.

Based on recent customer feedback, the experience at Kowloon Village appears to be somewhat varied. One patron visited on a busy Saturday night and, despite the crowd, was seated promptly. This reviewer highly recommended the fried steam dumplings, particularly praising the accompanying ginger sauce. They also noted the prices as very fair and expressed a definite intention to return.

However, another customer who dined at Kowloon Village after skiing reported a significantly less positive experience. They described a long wait time for their food, which took almost an hour and a half to arrive. Additionally, they mentioned a lack of basic service items such as water and serving spoons provided with the dishes. The quality of the food itself was also a major concern for this reviewer.

Specifically, the Szechuan shrimp was described as having a "sickeningly sweet" sauce and soggy vegetables. The salt and pepper chicken was deemed even worse, likened to inferior frozen chicken nuggets with a minimal sprinkling of salt. When the reviewer expressed their dissatisfaction to the waitress, the response was, "oh really? Well no one really orders it." Despite being very hungry, the diners ate some of the food but were ultimately highly dissatisfied and stated they would not return, even wishing they could give a zero-star rating.

Considering these two recent reviews, it's evident that the dining experience at Kowloon Village can differ. While one customer enjoyed the prompt seating, the fried steam dumplings, and fair prices, another encountered significant issues with slow service and the quality of certain dishes. The discrepancy in these experiences suggests that factors such as the time of visit (busy Saturday night versus perhaps a less crowded time) and the specific dishes ordered might influence customer satisfaction.

For local users considering Kowloon Village, it might be beneficial to inquire about the wait times, especially during peak hours. The fried steam dumplings with ginger sauce seem to be a standout item based on the positive feedback. However, the negative review regarding the Szechuan shrimp and salt and pepper chicken serves as a caution, particularly if these dishes are of interest. The comment from the waitress about the unpopularity of the salt and pepper chicken might also be something to consider.

As a Chinese restaurant in Bethel, ME, Kowloon Village offers a local option for those seeking this type of cuisine. However, potential customers should be aware of the mixed reviews regarding service speed and food quality for certain dishes. It might be prudent to ask for recommendations or inquire about the preparation of specific items before ordering, especially if you have particular preferences regarding spice levels or texture. While one reviewer found the prices fair, this aspect might be less appealing if the overall dining experience does not meet expectations.

Without information regarding the restaurant's environment or any specific promotional offers, it's challenging to provide a comprehensive introduction beyond the services offered (dine-in, potentially takeout) and the features highlighted in the customer reviews (fried steam dumplings with ginger sauce, varied quality of other dishes, potentially slow service during busy times). If you are in the Bethel area and looking for a Chinese restaurant, Kowloon Village is an option, but it appears prudent to approach it with an awareness of the recent feedback and perhaps prioritize dishes that have received positive mentions.

Was very busy on a Saturday night. We were able to be seated right away, though. The fried steam dumplings are amazing, especially the ginger sauce. Will definitely be coming back. Prices are very fair, too

Ate here after skiing. They told us the wait would be a while so we waited and waited and....waited. Food took almost an hour and a half. Didn't get water or serving spoons with the dishes. Ordered sezchuan shrimp and the sauce was sickeningly sweet and vegetables were soggy. Also ordered salt and pepper chicken which was worse than frozen chicken nuggets with a little salt sprinkled on it. When I told the waitress it was terrible, she said "oh really? Well no one really orders it." We were so hungry so we ate but so dissatisfied. Will not return. Would give 0 stars but couldn't.

Quick, yummy, inexpensive meal after skiing. I was happy to see many vegetarian options. We had veggie fried rice, veggie lo mein, and fried tofu in a “Szechuan” sauce (it was a sweet sauce with some chili flakes, unlike anything I’ve had at a Szechuan restaurant), and we were surprised at how much we enjoyed everything. The portions were also really large. Will definitely come back when we’re in town and craving Asian food.
