About Kolam
Kolam is a restaurant located at 316 S Main St, Newtown, CT 06470, USA. While categorized as a "Chinese Restaurant" on the platform, customer reviews suggest it primarily offers authentic Indian cuisine.
One reviewer shared a positive experience attending a birthday party at Kolam, highlighting the "absolutely delicious" food with a variety of flavorful authentic Indian dishes. They also enjoyed the selection of Indian beverages and described the atmosphere as "warm and inviting," making it suitable for celebrations. The staff was noted as "friendly and attentive," contributing to a great overall dining experience.
However, another customer reported a severely negative experience with a takeout order. They claimed to have found a bone in their butter chicken and, shockingly, a "rodent foot" in their food. Following this repulsive discovery, they contacted the restaurant and were reportedly offered a refund only for the contaminated dish, despite discarding all the food. The customer also expressed dissatisfaction with the management's email response, which they felt was inadequate and attributed the incident to a newly hired kitchen worker. This reviewer stated they would never order from or dine at Kolam again and expressed concerns about kitchen hygiene, hoping for a health department inspection.
Based on these contrasting reviews, Kolam appears to offer potentially delicious and authentic Indian food and a pleasant atmosphere for some, but there are serious concerns raised about food safety and hygiene based on at least one customer's experience. If you are in the Newtown, CT area and considering Kolam, it is important to be aware of these significantly different perspectives. Customer Reviews
I recently attended a friend's daughter's first birthday party at Kolam restaurant, and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was absolutely delicious, offering a variety of authentic Indian dishes that were full of flavor. The drinks were equally delightful, especially the selection of Indian beverages. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a celebration. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring everyone had a great experience. Highly recommend Kolam for anyone looking for excellent food and a wonderful dining experience
My husband and I used to love this place until we ordered takeout last night and not only was there a thin 2” bone in my butter chicken, but also a rodent foot!!! Absolutely repulsive. After calling, the restaurant refunded just the one dish, even though all the food went in the trash after that. The email response I received from management was hardly an apology and they chalked it up to having just hired “a new kitchen worker.” As if that makes it okay to serve rodent parts in your food?!? I hope the health department checks the conditions of their kitchen and that neither I, nor anyone else, gets sick. Suffice it to say, we will never order from/ dine here again.
Kolam Indian Restaurant where every bite is a journey through the vibrant flavors of India. From the aromatic Chicken Tikka Masala to the velvety Paneer Butter Masala, each dish is a masterpiece. The service is impeccable, with friendly staff eager to guide you through the menu, and don't miss the Shahi Kuffi ice cream – a revelation for the taste buds. With its warm ambiance, outstanding food, and delightful service, Kolam earns a well-deserved 5/5 rating. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine. I will recommend this place !
This was my first order since the new management. Food is definitely different from last time I ordered. Chicken korma was on a spicy side, usually it would be milder and have a little sweetness . Vegie dish was delicious. Bread must change, it was thin and very chewy.
This was our third and last time trying Kolam. We ordered 3 dishes and 2 went straight to the trash. The first time we tried the food it was good. The second time it was meh. This time it was an absolute disaster. The food was stale and smelled and tasted rancid. The sev used smelled bad and was well beyond it's expiry date. It felt like the oil used was old, very poor quality and most likely reused as well. Eating from here is, like throwing away money not to mention the likelihood of getting sick. Absolutely unacceptable food.
