About Kitlas Restaurant
While Kitlas Restaurant, located at 2242 Broad St, Frankfort, NY 13340, USA, is not categorized as a Chinese Restaurant, it functions as a bar and grill with a rich history and diverse menu that may appeal to local users. Easily accessible from Downtown Utica via NYS Route 5S, Kitlas has been a fixture since 1939 and is currently a third-generation family business run by Tom, who is noted as both a personable owner and an outstanding chef.
The environment of Kitlas Restaurant is described as warm and inviting, enhanced by the well-maintained original furnishings that contribute to its historic charm. The decor includes pictures on the walls that showcase the restaurant's history. Adding to the ambiance is a carefully curated music selection spanning many decades, considered by one reviewer to be exceptionally good.
Service at Kitlas is frequently praised, with one reviewer highlighting their waitress Christina as outgoing and welcoming. Christina was also knowledgeable about the menu, offering cocktail recommendations and even making them herself, while sharing stories about the restaurant's long history. This personal touch contributes to the positive dining experience.
A key feature of Kitlas Restaurant is its diverse menu, which includes a variety of dishes ranging from American to Polish, Italian, and Greek cuisine. Specific popular items mentioned in reviews include the "awesome" fresh-cut onion rings with homemade honey mustard chipotle dip, the "solid" flatbread with broccoli and mozzarella, and a comforting chicken soup reminiscent of homemade recipes. The riggies, a local favorite pasta dish, are noted for their thick sauce with chicken and sausage, and the homemade desserts are also highly recommended.
Customers consistently point out the "excellent value" offered at Kitlas, a rarity in the current restaurant industry. One reviewer shared a bill of $110 (including tax) which covered four cocktails, two appetizers, two entrees, and one dessert, highlighting the affordability for the quantity and quality received.
However, a recent review of their fish fry offered a more mixed perspective. While the fish itself was deemed good, the mac and cheese was described as having a very sharp cheese taste that wasn't to the reviewer's liking. The coleslaw was average, and the fries were unfortunately served cold and tasted of old grease, suggesting a potential inconsistency in food preparation. Despite this, the reviewer indicated a willingness to return and try other items on the menu.
Overall, Kitlas Restaurant offers a unique experience with its historic setting, diverse menu featuring homemade items, friendly service, and excellent value. It is recommended as a place that locals should support for both lunch and dinner.

Easy to get to from Downtown Utica just quick drive down NYS Route 5S. The Kitlas has been open since 1939 and it’s a third generation business and Tom the owner being very personable also an outstanding chef. They have all the original furnishings in great condition and adds to the warm ambiance. The music selection spans many decades and was one of the best I’ve heard at a restaurant. I love seeing history through the pictures on the walls. Excellent value that you hardly see anymore in the restaurant industry. The food and drinks were amazing! The total with tax was $110 and included four cocktails, two appetizers, two entrees, and one dessert. The service was outstanding. Our waitress Christina was outgoing, making us feel very welcome, and made recommendations for the cocktails and made them herself, and shared stories about the history of the business. The menu has a variety of items that range from American to Polish to Italian to Greek. The onion rings are awesome, fresh cut onions, breaded in house battter coming with a homemade honey mustard chipotle dip. Flatbread with broccoli and mozzarella is a solid item. The chicken soup was like mom used to make. The riggies came with a thick sauce and had chicken and sausage. The dessert is also homemade and a great treat! This it the type of business that should be supported often by locals for lunch and dinner.
Fish frys, Overall, it was ok. The fish was good. The Mac and Chese was different, really sharp cheese taste (I personally didn't like it, and i love mac and cheese)! The coleslaw was ok, very average. Unfortunately, the fries were cold and soaked with old grease taste. This happens when the fries sit around in the kitchen for a long period of time and get cold. They take on this real greasey taste and texture. Overall we probably won't go back there for a fish fry, but maybe try some other food. We'll see!
This place was established in 1937 and nothing has changed as far as the outside and interior. The interior is beautiful and puts you into the early 1900’s. They have all the original tables and chairs and the bar is very nostalgic. I had the baby back ribs and they were perfect! Slightly seared with BBQ Sauce and the meat fell right off the bone. It came with soup or salad and a side which mine was Mashed potatoes. Also the perigee’s he makes homemade which are out of this world. He makes the cabbage ones also but call ahead for him to put an order or two to the side for you. All the Desserts are homemade and the banana cream pie is to die for! It’s a must try place and I think once you try it you may become a regular customer. The prices are very Reasonable. I hope this review helps you!
What a gem! Our server Christina was fantastic and the food was amazing! We had Greens, the Polish Sampler and ribs.
Some really great food, and really good customer service. Customer service: Everyone is really friendly there. The staff were prompt and very easy to get along with. Environment: It is really neat in there! They have old photos of what Utica used to look like. Adds a really nice touch to the place. Food: Now onto the important stuff. We went with friends, but it was my wife's and my first time there, and we each tried a bite of everything that everyone ordered. To start, we got the onion strings. Our main dishes were the ribs, lemon horseradish haddock, potato crusted chicken parm, and the vodka chicken riggies. Usually onion strings tend to be too oily, or too salty. These were not, they were great. They were crisp and had the right amount of seasoning. The BBQ sauce on the ribs was probably the best BBQ sauce I've had. They make it in house, and I swear there's some apple flavor in there. Whatever it is, it's delicious. The meat falls right off the bones to on the ribs, they were so tender. The haddock was delicious. I don't like horseradish, but I couldn't really taste it. It was cooked really well, and the crust on there was delicious. The chicken parm is crusted in a potato crust. It's different, but it was really good! I really enjoyed the crust on the chicken, and the overall dude was great. The chicken riggies had this vodka sauce on there that was really flavorful and tasty. I loved it. Comes with really good ratio of meat and veggies with the noodles. Overall, the food there was really, really good and we enjoyed our time there a lot. If I didn't love it of state, we'd be going back again for sure!
