Based on the available customer reviews, experiences at Kirin Chinese Restaurant And Cocktail Bar appear to be varied. One positive review highlighted fast and friendly service during a dinner visit, along with enjoyment of specific dishes. These included the Spicy Chao Ma Seafood Noodle Soup, described as delicious and featuring garlic, ginger, prawns, scallop, calamari, mussel, and Chinese vegetables. Another enjoyed dish was the Five Ocean Happy Family, which included chili, prawns, scallop, mussels, calamari, fish, and broccoli, along with shiitake mushrooms. The Family Style Braised Tofu, prepared with chili bean paste, garlic, ginger, napa cabbage, and shiitake mushrooms, was also mentioned favorably. These dishes were reportedly served with steamed rice.
In contrast, another customer who dined at Kirin for a Friday Lunch Memorial Service meal had a significantly different experience. This reviewer, part of a party of ten and the only diners present at the time, described the food overall as barely warm with a basic taste. They also found the prices to be overly high for the quality received. Furthermore, this review described the atmosphere as dark and dank, and the restrooms in a similar negative light. This customer, a long-time resident of the East Bay and familiar with the dining options on Solano Avenue, stated that they would not recommend the restaurant and expressed regret for not having dined there previously, indicating a long-standing perception that aligned with their recent experience.
Considering these contrasting reviews, it's challenging to form a definitive picture of the overall environment, services, and features of Kirin Chinese Restaurant And Cocktail Bar. The positive review suggests a potential for delicious and well-prepared dishes, coupled with attentive service, at least during some dining occasions. The mention of a cocktail bar aspect implies the availability of alcoholic beverages, which could be a unique feature setting it apart from more traditional Chinese restaurants in the area. This could suggest a more lounge-like or evening-oriented atmosphere at certain times.
However, the negative review paints a concerning picture regarding food temperature and quality, pricing, and the overall ambiance, particularly during a quieter lunch service. The description of the atmosphere as "dark and dank" and the restrooms as similarly unappealing could be significant drawbacks for potential diners. The fact that this reviewer, with extensive local dining experience, had avoided the restaurant for years and felt their recent experience validated this avoidance is noteworthy.
Given the limited and conflicting information available from these two reviews, it is difficult to provide a comprehensive and objective introduction that fully covers the environment, services, features, and any potential promotional information of Kirin Chinese Restaurant And Cocktail Bar. There is no mention of specific services beyond dine-in (and potentially takeout, though not explicitly stated), no details about the restaurant's decor or overall ambiance from the positive review, and no information regarding any special features or ongoing promotions.
As a local user in Berkeley considering Kirin Chinese Restaurant And Cocktail Bar, you should be aware of these differing opinions. The positive review highlights specific dishes that were enjoyed and praised for their flavors and ingredients, along with friendly service. This suggests that the restaurant may be capable of delivering a positive dining experience. The negative review, however, raises concerns about food quality (temperature and taste), pricing relative to quality, and the cleanliness and atmosphere of the establishment, particularly during a less busy period.
Without further information or more consistent reviews, it is advisable to approach Kirin Chinese Restaurant And Cocktail Bar with cautious consideration. If you are intrigued by the combination of Chinese cuisine and a cocktail bar, or if the mentioned dishes like the Spicy Chao Ma Seafood Noodle Soup and Five Ocean Happy Family appeal to you, you might consider trying it for yourself. However, be mindful of the potential for inconsistencies in food quality and the reported issues with the environment.
To gain a more complete understanding, you may want to look for additional reviews on other platforms or consider contacting the restaurant directly with specific questions about their menu, ambiance, and any current specials. Visiting the location in person might also provide a better sense of the atmosphere before committing to a meal. In conclusion, Kirin Chinese Restaurant And Cocktail Bar on Solano Avenue in Berkeley offers a mix of Chinese food and a cocktail bar, but customer experiences regarding food quality, service consistency, and ambiance appear to vary significantly based on the limited information available.

Dined here for a Friday Lunch Memorial Service meal. Party of 10. The only diners in the restaurant. Food overall was barely warm. Taste basic. Price overly high. Atmosphere dark and dank. Restrooms the same. I was not paying for the meal, but would not recommend. Lived in the East Bay all my life and have dined on Solano Ave for years. There was a reason why I have never dined here and will not in the future.
This place falls into the okay category for me. It's not your typical Chinese restaurant, and it's not exactly fusion either. The food is decent overall, with some dishes aligning with traditional Chinese flavors while others don't quite hit the mark. Service is fine, and the food is just okay—nothing remarkable. There's nothing that makes me eager to return; it lacks that special something to set it apart. While it's a passable choice if you're in the neighborhood, there are likely more memorable dining spots worth exploring elsewhere.
Simple and clean decor with good warmth. Fairly good food, though our choices: crab and corn soup, chow fun, and ma-por tofu didn't wow me. The ma-por was probably the best dish. I'm guessing they were well executed but I was just hoping for more flavor. Overall a good Chinese cuisine experience. Cool to have the Northern Chinese focus. BE HERE
I came here last week with my co-workers and every one was pleased with their orders. All the food came out amazing and the service was great. Looking forward to coming back.
