About King's Wok

King's Wok is a Chinese restaurant located at 5223 S Laburnum Ave in Richmond, Virginia. Operating within the Chinese Restaurant category, King's Wok serves the local community with a menu of Chinese cuisine. They can be contacted at (804) 236-4906 or +1 804-236-4906 for orders and inquiries. Recent online customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences, with some customers finding certain dishes enjoyable while others express serious concerns about food quality and preparation.

One customer had an overwhelmingly negative experience, stating that if they could leave a zero rating, they would. Their review detailed significant issues with multiple aspects of their meal. They reported that the sweet and sour sauce contained "random specks," raising concerns about its quality or freshness. The chicken was described as looking like it had been "cooked in months old oil," suggesting poor cooking practices and potentially unsafe food. Most alarmingly, this reviewer stated that the "so called chicken" was "PINK AND STRINGY," indicating that it may have been undercooked or of poor quality. This customer was so dissatisfied that they did not even want a refund or any compensation, but rather wished for the restaurant to be "closed the HECK DOWN!!!" due to these severe food quality issues.

In contrast, another customer who was trying King's Wok for the first time had a more mixed but generally less severe experience. This reviewer found some of the appetizers to be "excellent," specifically mentioning the crab rangoon and egg rolls. The shrimp egg foo yung was also rated as "great." The spare ribs were considered "good" but could have used "additional sauce," indicating a minor issue with flavor or dryness. The orange chicken was deemed "ok," suggesting it was neither particularly good nor bad. However, this reviewer also encountered significant issues with other dishes.

The shrimp fried rice was described as "very bland," containing only rice and onion, which suggests a lack of flavor and ingredients typically expected in this dish. The teriyaki chicken was particularly problematic for this reviewer. They found it to be "strange" with a sauce that was "dried and crunchy," and the chicken itself was "very stringy." While the taste was described as "ok," it was "very different" from their perception of teriyaki chicken, indicating a potential misinterpretation or poor execution of this dish. Despite these issues with specific food items, this reviewer did note that "the service was quick and the staff were courteous," highlighting positive aspects of the customer interaction. Ultimately, this reviewer concluded that "next time, we will try other dishes," suggesting a willingness to give King's Wok another chance despite the mixed initial experience.

Considering these two recent reviews, the feedback for King's Wok in Richmond, VA, is highly polarized. One customer reported severely concerning issues with food safety and quality, particularly with the sweet and sour chicken, raising red flags about the restaurant's kitchen practices. The other customer had a more moderate experience, finding some dishes to be excellent while others were bland, poorly prepared, or not as expected. The positive comments on the crab rangoon, egg rolls, and shrimp egg foo yung might be points of interest for potential customers, as well as the noted quick and courteous service.

However, the significant concerns raised about the sweet and sour chicken, the bland shrimp fried rice, and the strange teriyaki chicken cannot be ignored. The stringy texture reported in both the potentially undercooked chicken and the teriyaki chicken also suggests a potential issue with the quality or preparation of the chicken used in their dishes. The lack of flavor in the fried rice indicates a possible lack of attention to detail in seasoning and ingredients.

The provided reviews do not offer any information about the environment of King's Wok, such as whether they have a dine-in area or if it is primarily a takeout establishment. The mention of quick and courteous service suggests that they are likely equipped to handle customer interactions efficiently, whether for dine-in or takeout. There are no specific features of the restaurant highlighted in these reviews, such as unique menu items or a particular style of Chinese cuisine they specialize in. Finally, no promotional information or special offers are mentioned in either of the provided reviews.

For local users in Richmond, VA, considering King's Wok, the available feedback presents a significant risk. The severely negative review detailing potentially unsafe and poorly prepared food should give potential customers pause. While another customer found some items to be good and noted positive service, the issues they encountered with blandness and unusual preparation in other dishes are also concerning. Given the stark contrast in these two recent experiences, it is difficult to recommend King's Wok without significant reservations. Potential customers may want to exercise extreme caution and perhaps consider other Chinese restaurants in the area with more consistently positive reviews.

If one were to consider trying King's Wok, it might be advisable to stick to the appetizers that received positive feedback (crab rangoon and egg rolls) and perhaps avoid dishes that were specifically criticized (sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, teriyaki chicken). However, the risk of encountering poorly prepared food, as highlighted in the more severe review, remains a significant factor to consider.

If I could leave a 0 I would. The sweet and sour sauce has random specks in it. The chicken looks like it’s been cooked in months old oil and the actual SO CALLED CHICKEN is PINK AND STRINGY! I don’t even want to waste my time calling because I don’t want a thing from em but to be closed the HECK DOWN!!!

First time trying this place. The crab rangoon and egg rolls were excellent! The shrimp egg foo yung was great. The spare ribs were good, but could use additional sauce. The orange chicken was ok. The shrimp fried rice was very bland, containing only rice and onion. The teriyaki chicken was strange: the sauce was dried and crunchy, and the chicken was very stringy. It tasted ok, just very different from my perception of teriyaki chicken. The service was quick and the staff were courteous. Next time, we will try other dishes.

I called to make an order. The employee sounded more hostile than friendly so I hung up. The employee called me back on a different number to confront me about it
