The available customer reviews offer contrasting experiences at King Chef. One reviewer found their sweet and sour chicken to be "okay" and noted that it was their first visit to this restaurant, which they described as being "tucked away in a little strip mall." They appreciated the "nice" service and observed that the restaurant is "tiny" with an ambiance that "could have better," but they also highlighted its cleanliness as "most important" and were "impressed with the number of menu options." This reviewer indicated a willingness to return in the future.
In stark contrast, another reviewer had a significantly negative experience, rating it "0/10" and stating they "DO NOT RECOMMEND" the establishment. While they mentioned having no prior issues, their recent experience involved a phone order where the lady was described as "very RUDE!" The specific issue was with an order of "chicken on a stick" which they received "the color of the road. BLACK AND BURNT." Upon returning to the restaurant, they reported that the lady "snatched the bag out my hand" and prepared a replacement order, which was then placed into the same bag as the burnt food. This reviewer deemed it a "Bad experience" and stated they "wont be going back again."
Considering these two reviews, we can attempt to describe the environment, services, and features of King Chef based on the information provided:
Environment: One reviewer described the restaurant as "tiny" and located in a "little strip mall," suggesting a small and perhaps unassuming setting. While they felt the ambiance "could have better," they also explicitly noted that the restaurant was "clean," which they considered to be of utmost importance. The other reviewer did not comment on the environment.
Services: Based on the reviews, King Chef offers the following services:
- Takeout: The negative review details a phone order for takeout, indicating that this service is available.
- Dine-in: The first reviewer's experience implies the option to dine in, as they were physically present at the restaurant.
- Phone Ordering: Customers can place orders over the phone, as evidenced by the negative review. However, one customer reported a negative interaction during a phone call.
- Potential for Rude Service: One customer reported a "very RUDE!" interaction with a staff member while placing a phone order and during the handling of a complaint in person. However, another reviewer described the service as "nice," suggesting inconsistency in service quality or individual experiences.
- Order Remediation (though flawed): When a customer received a severely burnt item, the restaurant did attempt to rectify the situation by preparing a new order. However, the act of placing the new food in the same bag was a point of dissatisfaction for the customer.
Features: Based on the customer feedback, we can identify the following features of King Chef:
- Extensive Menu Options: One reviewer was "impressed with the number of menu options," suggesting a wide variety of Chinese dishes are available.
- Okay Food Quality (Sweet & Sour Chicken): One reviewer found the sweet and sour chicken to be "okay," indicating a moderate level of satisfaction with this particular dish. However, the other reviewer's experience with severely burnt chicken on a stick indicates potential issues with food preparation quality and consistency.
- Tiny Restaurant Size: The description of the restaurant as "tiny" suggests a small dining space, which might impact seating availability and the overall dining experience for on-site customers.
- Cleanliness: One reviewer explicitly mentioned that the restaurant was "clean," which is a positive aspect.
- Potential for Inconsistent Food Quality: The stark contrast between "okay" sweet and sour chicken and "BLACK AND BURNT" chicken on a stick highlights a potential lack of consistency in food preparation.
Promotional Information: The provided reviews do not contain any information about current promotions, discounts, or special offers at King Chef. To learn about any such offers or specific menu items, it is recommended to contact the restaurant directly at (336) 585-0588 or +1 336-585-0588.
In conclusion, King Chef in Burlington, NC, is a Chinese restaurant located in a strip mall that offers both dine-in and takeout services and boasts a large menu. While one customer found the sweet and sour chicken to be acceptable, appreciated the cleanliness, and was impressed by the variety of options, another reported a severely negative experience involving rude service and inedible, burnt food. This suggests a potential inconsistency in both food quality and customer service. Local users considering King Chef should be aware of these contrasting recent experiences. For the most accurate information regarding their menu and any potential promotions, direct contact with the restaurant is advised.

Customer Reviews
Food was okay (sweet & sour chicken). First time at this place tucked away in a little strip mall. Service was nice. Restaurant is tiny. Could have better ambiance, but is clean (most important). Impressed with the number of menu options. I will go back again!
0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. Never had an issue with this establishment before until today. I called to place an order and the lady was very RUDE! i dont know if she had a bad day or what. Anywho, I ordered chicken on a stick and upon receiving my order. My chicken on the stick was the color of the road. BLACK AND BURNT. I had to then go back into the establishment in which the lady snatches the bag out my hand and makes me another order in which she threw the new food into the same bag. Bad experience wont be going back again.
Came here with a large order. The order came to over $120. Everything we ordered that was fried was fried so damn hard it was hard to chew it. Ordered cheese wontons and got something resembling pork instead. Big disappointment. We drove from afar so it wasn't possible to return and get money back. Lo Mein was tasty. Won't be back though. Too much money to waste like that. Do better.
Typical Chinese food, no frills. I got a takeout order on a Saturday night. Chicken with garlic sauce and egg roll. It should have been spicy, but was mild at best. Chicken was tough, veggies were fresh. When my order was ready, the counter woman brought it out and said “here you go”. She didn’t bother to say thank you or anything else. There was no duck sauce, or hot mustard for the egg roll, no napkins either. I wasn’t very impressed with the service or food. I’m not big on Chinese food since getting older. I’ll add a disclaimer, it does take a lot to impress me since I was a busboy in a Chinese Restaurant in school.
Ordered General Tsou’s chicken, extra spicy. Everything tasted overcooked in stale oil, except the rice. The rice could hardly be called “fried rice“ as it was barely cooked. Everything was bland, even though “extra spicy”. I won’t be going back.
