About Kinaly Lao & Thai Restaurant (Carlsbad)
While Kinaly Lao & Thai Restaurant (Carlsbad) is listed under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," please note that this establishment offers a unique combination of authentic Lao and Thai cuisine. Located at 2508-C1 El Camino Real in Carlsbad, CA, Kinaly provides a less common culinary experience for those looking to explore the flavors of both Laos and Thailand.
The restaurant has a casual ambiance, situated in a strip mall. While one customer noted it was empty during a Saturday afternoon visit, they still decided to try it. Upon being seated immediately, they found the server to be nice. A distinctive feature of Kinaly is the presence of a bell on each table with "call" and "pay" buttons, a unique system that some diners appreciate for its convenience.
The menu offers standard Thai dishes alongside a more limited selection of about eight Lao items. Customers who tried the Drunken Noodles from the Thai menu and the Khao Poon (Vermicelli Curry Noodles) from the Lao menu found both to be delicious, although not particularly spicy. They noted that requesting a higher spice level on future visits would be their preference. The Drunken Noodles were described as a proper stir fry with plenty of vegetables and great flavors. The Khao Poon, a coconut milk-based soup with vermicelli, minced chicken and beef, and vegetables, was served in a very generous portion, potentially enough for two people, while the Drunken Noodles were a good serving for one to 1.5 people. The pricing is reported to be on par with other restaurants in Carlsbad.
Another reviewer commented on the freshness and deliciousness of the food, stating that while they couldn't definitively vouch for its authenticity, the flavors met their expectations. They did mention that staffing appeared to be a little light, resulting in a slightly longer wait time. Additionally, they noted some frustration due to several items being unavailable when they ordered, suggesting that takeout might be a more reliable option.
Overall, Kinaly Lao & Thai Restaurant offers a chance to experience the distinct tastes of Lao and Thai cuisine in Carlsbad. With flavorful dishes and a unique service feature, it's a place worth considering, especially for those looking beyond standard Thai fare. This is a little find in Carlsbad! We wanted Thai food and we wanted it in this specific area, so we came here. The restaurant was empty on this Sat afternoon. We were a little apprehensive but decided to give it a shot anyway. We got seated immediately. The server was nice. Each table has a bell with buttons indicating "call" and "pay", which was unique and I wish more restaurants would adopt this. The Thai menu is pretty much standard. Their Lao menu has like 8 items. We ordered the drunken noodles from the Thai menu and Khao Poon or Vermicelli Curry Noodles from the Lao menu. Both plates were delicious but not super spicy. For next time, we will ask for a higher spice level. The drunken noodles was a proper stir fry with a lot of veggies and a mix of great flavors. The Curry Noodles was a bowl of coconut milk based soup with vermicelli, minced chicken and beef pieces and veggies. The bowl was a huge portion and would have sufficed 2 people. The drunken noodles was good for 1.5 people. Pricing wise, it is on par with Carlsbad. We will be back to try more options!
Food tasted fresh and delicious. I am not an authority on whether it was authentic Thai but the flavors met my expectations. Staffing was a little light so we did have to wait a little longer than we would’ve liked. It was a little frustrating that they had run out of many items when we ordered. Take out is probably a safer bet.
This place is new to the area and I was quite curious to try it. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, which for me is a key test of whether I will like a Thai cafe. The serving was quite good and had 6 shrimp. The serving size was ok for lunch, although it’s a little less noodles than I would typically get elsewhere. But the flavors were excellent and food presentation was nice. In other comments, the interior decor is modern and interesting, they played good music, and the utensils had a brass finish which looks a little more elegant. The main drawback, which I pointed out to the hostess, was the cloth napkins have lots of lint and even small particles of something. So that is one aspect needing improvement. But overall, a good choice for lunch that I would try again.
My boyfriend and I were staying in the area craving some Thai food and came across this place. We were driven to try this because it had great Yelp reviews. It was incredible! Coming from Las Vegas, we have tried some wonderful Thai restaurants and we were skeptical that this area would have had great Thai food but omg it was amazing! Their Thai tea was seriously the best Thai tea I have ever tried. I love that they put it in a to go plastic cup with a straw so I was able to just take it with me when we left instead of asking for a to go cup. Our waitress was attentive, so sweet and the food came so fast! I was so surprised there wasn’t more people in here. We tried the chicken wonton soup, which was literally incredible! Some of the best we’ve ever had. The cream cheese wontons are amazing, I wish they had crab of some sort in them but still good! Orange chicken was good, came with a side of white rice. Boyfriend got the chicken pad Thai which he said was good as well. We would definitely be frequent customers if we lived in the area! This is a hidden gem, truly. I hope they see more business! Try the chicken wonton soup, I promise!
I've been to the San Marcos location a lot. This one does not disappoint. The beef pad Thai is the best around. I also ordered the wings. My only regret is that I forgot to take a picture of the meal so I could share it here. I will be returning so that I can order and take a picture of the amazing meal next time. Really awesome food here, you won't be dissatisfied.
