About Kaowok Chinese Kitchen

Kaowok Chinese Kitchen, situated at 12022 Lakewood Blvd in Downey, California, is a local Chinese restaurant that has garnered attention from area residents and workers. This introduction aims to provide potential local customers with a detailed and objective perspective on what Kaowok Chinese Kitchen has to offer, based on recent feedback from online reviews. The analysis will cover aspects such as the restaurant's environment, the quality of its services, notable features of its menu, and any indications of promotional information or consistent experiences.

One customer review paints a positive picture of Kaowok Chinese Kitchen, indicating a satisfying dining experience. This reviewer mentioned that the location was recommended by coworkers and lived up to expectations. Key highlights from this positive feedback include "delicious" food that is "priced reasonably," with portions large enough to ensure leftovers. The cleanliness of the establishment is also noted, along with the availability of ample seating both inside and outside. Furthermore, the staff is described as "courteous," and the service is reported to be "rather quick." Specific dishes praised in this review include the chow mein, which is noted for having thicker noodles and being very flavorful, the "soft and tasty" orange chicken, and the "good" white rice. The reviewer also mentions that their family enjoyed the Fire Grilled chicken and Beef and Broccoli with chow mein and fried rice, concluding that Kaowok Chinese Kitchen is "definitely worth a try" and expressing their satisfaction with positive emojis.

However, another, more recent review presents a significantly contrasting experience. This customer, writing on March 18, 2025, expresses disappointment with the current quality of the food, noting that the place "use to be really good." The primary concern raised in this review is a serious issue of food safety, as the customer's father reportedly found "a very long strand of hair" in his vegetables. This is a significant negative point that could deter potential customers. Additionally, the reviewer was dissatisfied with their own meal, describing the orange chicken and BBQ pork as containing "nothing but gristle." The beef in the Beef and Broccoli dish was also criticized for being "very dry." Based on these negative experiences, this customer states their disappointment and indicates they will not be returning.

Considering the environment of Kaowok Chinese Kitchen, the positive review describes it as "clean" with "plenty of seating inside and outside." This suggests that the restaurant offers a comfortable and accommodating space for diners, with options for different preferences regarding seating. However, the negative review does not comment on the environment, focusing solely on the food quality and safety.

In terms of services, the positive review highlights "courteous" staff and "rather quick" service, indicating a positive customer service experience. This suggests that on at least one occasion, the service was efficient and the staff were pleasant. The negative review does not mention the service, so it is unclear if the issues experienced with the food were accompanied by any service-related problems.

The features of Kaowok Chinese Kitchen include a menu with a variety of Chinese dishes. Based on the positive review, some standout items include the chow mein (with its thicker, flavorful noodles), the orange chicken (described as soft and tasty), and the Fire Grilled chicken and Beef and Broccoli, which were enjoyed by the reviewer's family. The negative review, however, highlights significant quality issues with the orange chicken, BBQ pork, and Beef and Broccoli, as well as the concerning discovery of hair in the vegetables. This discrepancy suggests potential inconsistency in food preparation and quality control.

At this time, there is no explicit promotional information available in the provided reviews. Customers would need to check with the restaurant directly or through other platforms to learn about any current specials or promotions that might be offered.

In conclusion, Kaowok Chinese Kitchen in Downey presents a mixed profile based on recent customer reviews. One review praises the delicious and reasonably priced food, generous portions, clean environment, and courteous, quick service, recommending it as "definitely worth a try." In contrast, a more recent review expresses significant disappointment due to finding hair in the food and experiencing poor quality in multiple dishes (gristle in chicken and pork, dry beef), leading to a strong negative recommendation. This stark contrast suggests potential inconsistencies in the restaurant's standards, particularly regarding food safety and quality control. Local users considering Kaowok Chinese Kitchen should be aware of these differing recent experiences and may want to proceed with caution, perhaps inquiring about current food preparation standards before placing an order.

This location was recommended to me by my coworkers and it did not disappoint. Food is delicious, priced reasonably, and you'll definitely have leftovers. Place is clean, has plenty of seating inside and outside. Staff is courteous and you are tended to rather quickly. The chow mein noodles are a thicker than I've had at other locations but very flavorful. The orange chicken is soft and tasty and the white rice so good. My family also loved their plates of Fire Grilled chicken, Beef and Broccoli with chow mein and fried rice. Definitely worth a try. 🤗🍜❤

This place use to be really good. I came in tonight 3/18/25 to get dinner for my dad and I, I live way in Long Beach and while my dad was eating, he came across a very long strand of hair in his vegetables, and I am very disappointed in my food, because I I’m getting nothing but gristle not only in my orange chicken, but my bbq pork. The beef to the beef and broccoli is very dry. I don’t think I will be coming back

Everything was great but I immediately got sick and threw up everything I ate. Not sure what happened with the food but my experience was great, customer service was great. Everyone was polite and spoke to me by name which I love. I came back started eating the orange chicken I got with rice and noodles then not even after eating 4 pieces I had to stop and go to the bathroom. Everything tasted fine just not sure where it went wrong with my food.

It’s another generic Chinese food take out. The area looks clean to dine in. Customer service is great. The food actually had flavors. Decent price.

As I was eating my food that my daughter brought for me, which was fried rice, vegetables, orange and teriyaki chicken. As I started eating it, I pulled out a LONG ASS PIECE OF HAIR from my plate. I am so hurt and disappointed. They all NEED TO BE WEARING HAIR NEATS AS THE SERVE THE FOOD TO THE CUSTOMERS. That is so nasty and now I had to throw my whole $13 plate in the trash. The bad part about it to is that I can’t call and complaint because it’s closed. I hope they do something about this because it would be very bad to see heath inspectors do something about it.
