About Kam Wah Chop Suey

Welcome to Kam Wah Chop Suey, a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, situated at 7604 State St in East St. Louis, Illinois. For those in the area seeking Chinese-American cuisine, Kam Wah Chop Suey offers a range of dishes, with a particular highlight on their unique preparation of ham fried rice. While specific details about the restaurant's ambiance are limited, it functions as a local eatery providing takeout services to the community. It is important to consider recent customer feedback when evaluating this establishment.

Information regarding the specific environment of Kam Wah Chop Suey is not detailed in the provided reviews. Typically, Chinese takeout restaurants focus on efficiency and functionality for order placement and pickup. Customers might expect a counter area for ordering and waiting, with the primary emphasis being on the preparation of food for consumption off-premises. While dine-in options might exist, the reviews do not provide insight into the dining area's atmosphere or amenities. To understand the environment better, contacting the restaurant directly or visiting the location might be necessary.

Kam Wah Chop Suey primarily operates as a takeout restaurant, catering to customers who wish to enjoy their meals at home or elsewhere. You can place orders by calling (618) 398-0573 or +1 618-398-0573. The availability of online ordering or delivery services through third-party platforms is not mentioned in the provided information. The focus appears to be on traditional order placement via phone or in person for pickup. The standout service aspect mentioned in the reviews is the preparation of their ham fried rice, which one customer found so appealing that it was "worth the drive from St Louis." The unique way the ham is cut into strips was also noted as a positive feature of this particular dish.

As a Chinese restaurant with "Chop Suey" in its name, Kam Wah likely offers a variety of classic Chinese-American dishes, with chop suey being a potential specialty. However, the most prominently featured item in the customer reviews is their ham fried rice. One customer's enthusiasm for this dish, specifically mentioning the flavor and the cut of the ham, suggests it is a signature offering that sets Kam Wah Chop Suey apart. You can likely expect other common dishes such as fried rice variations, noodle dishes, and a selection of meat, poultry, and seafood entrees prepared with various sauces and vegetables. To obtain a comprehensive understanding of their menu and any other specialty items they may offer, contacting the restaurant directly would be the most effective approach.

The customer reviews for Kam Wah Chop Suey present a stark contrast. One review is highly positive, focusing on the exceptional ham fried rice and the unique preparation of the ham. This customer found the dish so appealing that they were willing to travel from St. Louis to East St. Louis specifically to purchase it, indicating a high level of satisfaction and a distinctive offering. However, a more recent review expresses significant concern and disappointment. This customer states that they can no longer recommend the place to eat due to a video circulating on Facebook allegedly showing a maggot in their food. This serious allegation has led the customer to express deep disappointment and a decision not to return to Kam Wah Chop Suey. This review raises significant questions about food safety and hygiene standards at the establishment and should be carefully considered by potential customers.

Given the serious nature of the negative review, any potential promotional information becomes secondary to the concerns raised about food safety. It is unlikely that any current promotions would outweigh the impact of such an allegation. Potential customers would likely prioritize the safety and quality of the food over any discounts or special offers. Therefore, it is crucial for Kam Wah Chop Suey to address the issues raised in the negative review to regain customer trust. Any past positive experiences, such as the praised ham fried rice, are overshadowed by the recent food safety concerns.

In conclusion, Kam Wah Chop Suey in East St. Louis, IL, is a Chinese restaurant known, at least in the past, for its distinctive ham fried rice, which was highly praised by one customer. However, a recent and serious allegation regarding food safety, specifically the claim of a maggot being found in their food, presents a significant concern for potential customers. This negative feedback has led at least one customer to cease recommending or patronizing the establishment. While the ham fried rice was once a noted feature, the recent food safety concerns necessitate caution and further investigation by anyone considering ordering from Kam Wah Chop Suey. It is recommended to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about their current food safety practices and to make an informed decision based on the totality of the available information, with a strong emphasis on the recent negative feedback.

It's worth the drive from St Louis for the ham fried rice. I also love the way the ham is cut into strips. Talking about it makes me want it now.
