About Kam Hong Garden
Welcome to Kam Hong Garden, a Chinese restaurant located at 848 E Garvey Ave Suite A in Monterey Park, California. Situated within the vibrant landscape of Chinese Restaurants in the area, Kam Hong Garden distinguishes itself as a "mom and pop" establishment with a history that has captured the attention of local diners and those willing to travel for its specialties. Based on enthusiastic customer reviews, Kam Hong Garden offers a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine with a focus on handmade noodles and flavorful dishes.
One reviewer described Kam Hong Garden as a local gem that they had surprisingly never tried despite its long-standing presence. Their initial experience proved to be delightful, with specific praise for the "handmade noodles & beef," noting their delicious taste and excellent texture. This highlights a potential signature dish of the restaurant, suggesting that their noodle-making skills are a key feature. The same reviewer also lauded the "lamb skewers," describing them as "seasoned well" and the meat as "cooked perfectly" with "good quality," indicating attention to detail in their preparation of other menu items. The use of "not the odds and ends cut" for the lamb further suggests a commitment to using quality ingredients.
While the experience was overwhelmingly positive for this customer, they did offer a minor critique regarding the "dumpling skin," which they found to be "a bit too thick/doughy" for their personal preference. This provides an honest and balanced perspective, acknowledging that individual tastes can vary even within a positive dining experience. The reviewer concluded with a strong intention to return, stating, "We will come back again for sure," a testament to the overall positive impression of Kam Hong Garden.
Another customer's review paints an even more vivid picture of Kam Hong Garden's appeal, particularly for those seeking authentic handmade noodles. This reviewer, residing in the San Fernando Valley, mentioned a specific desire for handmade noodles that they had been unable to find in their local area. Their internet search for the "best hand rolled noodles" led them to Kam Hong Garden, which ranked second in their findings. This suggests that Kam Hong Garden has garnered a reputation, at least online, for its exceptional handmade noodles.
Driven by this discovery, the reviewer and their wife embarked on a significant journey of over an hour in adverse weather conditions ("rain 🌧️ and traffic") to dine at Kam Hong Garden. This dedication underscores the perceived value and authenticity of the food offered. Upon arrival, they were promptly greeted and seated, indicating efficient and welcoming service.
An interesting point noted by this reviewer is that the menus at the restaurant differed from the pictures found on the website. This is a common occurrence and suggests that the online representation might not always be completely up-to-date. It highlights the importance of being open to potential variations in the actual menu offerings.
The reviewer then detailed their order: "Beef Stew with Hand Rolled Noodles Soup," "Leek with Minced Shrimp Boiled Dumplings," and "Saute Spicy Shrimp 🦐." Their reaction upon receiving the food was overwhelmingly positive. They were "so surprised" by the "huge" portions and the intensely "flavorful" taste of the dishes. This suggests that Kam Hong Garden offers generous servings without compromising on the quality and taste of their food, providing good value for money.
The highlight of their meal was undoubtedly the "Hand Rolled Noodles," which they declared to be "the best Noodle we've ever eaten." This emphatic statement reinforces the earlier reviewer's praise and solidifies the handmade noodles as a standout feature of Kam Hong Garden. The reviewer went on to recommend the restaurant specifically for those seeking "real Hand Rolled Noodles," positioning it as a must-visit destination for this particular culinary experience.
The positive experience extended beyond the initial meal, as the reviewer mentioned taking their leftovers home and enjoying a "wonderful lunch the next day." This further emphasizes the generous portion sizes and the lasting quality of the food. The combined feedback from these two reviews strongly suggests that Kam Hong Garden excels in its handmade noodles and offers flavorful, generously portioned dishes.
Based on the available information, Kam Hong Garden appears to be a traditional, family-run Chinese restaurant that has cultivated a loyal following through its dedication to quality and authentic flavors, particularly its handmade noodles. The environment is described as a "mom and pop local restaurant," suggesting a casual and perhaps unpretentious setting focused on the food itself rather than elaborate décor. The service seems friendly and efficient, as indicated by the prompt seating.
The key features of Kam Hong Garden appear to be its commitment to handmade noodles, the flavorful preparation of dishes like the beef stew and lamb skewers, and the generous portion sizes offered. While one reviewer noted a personal preference for thinner dumpling skin, the overall consensus on the quality of ingredients and cooking is high.

This is truly a mom and pop local restaurant. It's been here for years that we never tried. To our surprise, the food was good. The handmade noodles & beef were delicious and good texture. The lamb skewers were seasoned well. The meat was cooked perfectly and good quality, not the odds and ends cut. The dumpling skin was a bit too thick/doughy to my taste. We will come back again for sure.
My wife and I both love Asian food and my wife has been wanting hand made noodles. We live in the San Fernando Valley and we haven't found any hand made noodles in our area. So I looked on the Internet for the best hand rolled noodles and Kam Hong Garden came in second. I told my wife that we were going to dinner but I didn't tell her where. We drove for over 1hrs in the rain 🌧️ and traffic. We were greeted and sat down right away. Their menus are different from the picture on the website. We ordered the Beef Stew with Hand Rolled Noodles Soup and also the Leek with Minced Shrimp Boiled Dumplings and also the Saute Spicy Shrimp 🦐. We were so surprised when they brought out the food. The portions were huge and so very flavorful. Their Hand Rolled Noodles were the best Noodle we've ever eaten. If you want real Hand Rolled Noodles this is the restaurant that you have to come to. We took our leftovers home and had a wonderful lunch the next day.
The lamb noodle soup is beyond delicious. One of the best meals I can remember. Excellent food and service. The shredded potato dish, made of parboiled potato, had a slight snap and texture like tender papaya. So delicious.
My wife and I have been here twice since since the COVID pandemic started. We were looking for new places to try and stumbled across this hole-in-wall place. Both times the service was quick and the food was delicious. This is a local mom and pop restaurant with reasonable prices and large portions. We order the lamb soup noodles, tomato egg flat noodles, and the beef roll. The lamb soup noodle is packed with ingredients, very flavorful without being to salty. However, I think it would have been better if they gave us more soup - maybe the there was just too much ingredients. My favorite dish was the tomato egg noodles. The noodles (flat, wide noodles) had just the right amount of chewy (QQ) texture and hold very well with the sauce. It was a bit sweet and tangy. The cucumbers added a refreshing contrast to the dish. It's a very simple dish yet very comforting. My wife really liked the beef roll - nothing special, just delicious. We really hope they can get more support during this difficult time. Cash only, parking available in a shared parking lot.
This is a quiet little place in a U shaped strip mall. I couldn't decide between the lamb soup and the beef stew soup, so I tried the beef stew. Delicious! I also got the wide hand cut noodles, which were perfection--tender and just thick enough to be a bit chewy. The broth was nicely flavored (could taste a bit of five spice and hot spice). Nice chunks of beef and mui choy and green onion. One of my favorite soups in the area. The counter person (I believe the mother?) was so sweet. She had to get her son(?) to explain to me some menu items, but both were very happy to do so. I will be back to try the lamb soup! I should add: cash only. But worth it!
