About Kai Sushi Bar & Grill
Located at 232 Chandler St in Worcester, MA, Kai Sushi Bar & Grill offers a Japanese dining experience characterized by an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Currently, the space is small, featuring an 11-seat bar and approximately eight tables, fostering a casual and close-knit vibe.
While categorized as a Chinese Restaurant on the platform, Kai Sushi Bar & Grill specializes in Japanese cuisine, with a focus on sushi and sashimi. Customers have noted the freshness of the sushi and sashimi, though some found the slices to be thinner than expected. Popular creative rolls include the Fire Roll and the Love Roll. The Fire Roll, while delicious, had flavors that tended to blend together, making it harder to distinguish individual ingredients. In contrast, the Love Roll offered more distinct flavor layers, with a refreshing and well-balanced touch of mango.
A standout item on the menu is the Spicy Scallop Roll, praised for its top-notch quality, added crunch, and bold flavor, setting it apart from similar rolls. The miso soup is described as having a familiar taste, though leaning slightly on the salty side.
The service at Kai Sushi Bar & Grill is generally considered efficient and polite, with servers ensuring that diners have everything they need, contributing to the relaxed atmosphere.
A unique selling point of Kai Sushi Bar & Grill is its creative rolls and the highly anticipated expanded Omakase menu at their upcoming new location. One reviewer who experienced the Omakase menu found it to be a "hidden gem," offering a 14-course meal with incredibly fresh seafood and unique flavor combinations. Each piece was described as melting in the mouth, with the right balance of flavors. The reviewer also enjoyed the sake flight and appreciated the personal explanation of each course by Chef Timmy, culminating in a sake shot with the chef. This Omakase experience was deemed worth the price and highly satisfying.
Kai Sushi Bar & Grill appears to be a promising destination for those seeking fresh and creative Japanese cuisine in Worcester, especially with the upcoming expansion and enhanced Omakase offering.

📍 Location & Atmosphere Kai Sushi in Worcester offers an intimate and cozy dining experience. The current location is quite small, with an 11-seat bar and around eight tables max, creating a casual and close-knit vibe. However, with their upcoming relocation, it’ll be exciting to see how they expand, especially with the introduction of their Omakase menu, which I’m eager to try. 🍽️ Food & Drinks We started with the miso soup, which had a familiar taste but leaned slightly on the salty side. It was a decent start, though nothing particularly standout. We then moved on to sushi and sashimi, which were fresh but noticeably thinner than expected. The Fire Roll and Love Roll were both delicious, though the flavors in the Fire Roll felt a bit homogeneous—everything blended together, making it harder to distinguish individual ingredients. The Love Roll, on the other hand, had more distinct flavor layers, making it more enjoyable. Despite not being a huge fan of mango in sushi, I found the fruity touch refreshing and well-balanced. The standout was the Spicy Scallop Roll, which was top-notch. It’s probably my favorite basic roll to order—the added crunch and bold flavor gave it a unique edge over similar rolls I’ve had elsewhere. 👨‍🍳 Service & Hospitality The service was fine—our server made sure we had everything we needed. It was efficient and polite, which suited the relaxed atmosphere. 💡 Unique Selling Point Kai Sushi stands out for its creative rolls and the promise of an expanded Omakase menu at their new location. The Spicy Scallop Roll was the highlight, offering a perfect balance of texture and flavor that sets it apart from the rest. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new space and menu elevate the dining experience.
Living near Boston for so many years, we almost gave up trying to find a comparable Japanese restaurant, especially one that offered omakase. Finally we found one. A hidden gem to say the least! We reserved a table a few weeks in advance since their omakase menu is not a nightly/dail special. We had a 14 course meal and were completely satisfied by the end. I tried the sake flight which was great. Chef Timmy personally explained each course and we ended the meal with a sake shot with him. Each course had the freshest seafood with unique combinations. Every piece melted in our mouths with the right amount of flavor with each bite! Worth every penny! We will definitely come back for more. Thank you for a wonderful experience as we celebrated our anniversary!
Went for an omakase (tasting) special. The service and food were outstanding. They made us feel like we were the only ones they cared about. The restaurant was full! The omakase menu was very pricy but totally worth it. We’re planning on going back to get some sushi soon.
One of my favorite spots in Worcester hands down. The entire staff creates a welcoming, personal experience every time; when you inevitably return, it's like you are part of the family. The food is outstanding and very reasonably priced. A great variety of rolls have something for everyone, delicious appetizers, desserts, and their specials never disappoint. I really don't go anywhere else for sushi in Worcester. Intimate yet casual, I'd call it a hidden gem except I think the secret is out as I always run into a familiar face. Can't wait to see what they do with the new location at Chandler and Park.
I love Kai's food so my family drove 90 mins from Quincy to Worcester to celebrate my birthday in Kai Sushi. Food are awesome as always, and my friends in Kai made my day even more special with many surprises. They gave me beautiful flowers, delicious dishes, and a tasty piece of chocolate cake, all of which are my favorites. Kai is not just a place to come for foods, it is also a place to hang out, have a fun conversation, make some connections with wonderful people, and enjoy your day.
