About Junzi Kitchen 君子食堂哥大店 Columbia University, New York NY| Healthy Authentic Chinese

Junzi Kitchen 君子食堂哥大店 Columbia University, New York NY| Healthy Authentic Chinese, often referred to simply as Junzi Kitchen, is a Chinese restaurant located at 2896 Broadway in close proximity to Columbia University in New York City. This establishment positions itself as offering a healthier and more authentic take on Chinese cuisine, catering to the diverse palates of students, faculty, and local residents in the Upper Manhattan area. Junzi Kitchen specializes in customizable bowls, providing a modern and accessible way to enjoy traditional Chinese flavors.

Based on recent customer reviews, Junzi Kitchen presents a contemporary and well-lit dining environment. The decor is described as "nice and simple" with a "modern looking" aesthetic, suggesting a clean and inviting space for customers. The counter area is reported to be "well laid out," with a clear explanation of the ordering process, making it easy for both new and returning customers to navigate the options available.

Junzi Kitchen's service is generally praised for its speed and efficiency. One reviewer noted the "fast and great" service, indicating that customers can expect a quick turnaround, which is particularly beneficial during busy lunch hours or for those seeking a swift meal. The pricing is also mentioned as "reasonable," suggesting that Junzi Kitchen offers a good balance between quality and affordability, especially for its location in a vibrant part of the city.

The core offering at Junzi Kitchen revolves around customizable bowls, with a variety of options including salad bowls, rice bowls, and noodle bowls. Customers have the flexibility to choose their preferred base, protein, vegetables, and a selection from a "good variety of base sauce options." This build-your-own approach allows for a personalized dining experience, catering to individual tastes and dietary preferences. One reviewer specifically enjoyed the flat noodles with tomato egg sauce, highlighting the availability of unique and flavorful sauce choices. The option to add chili oil as a garnish was also appreciated for those who enjoy a bit of spice in their meal.

However, one reviewer who visited around lunchtime experienced a significant queue that extended around seated customers, which they found to be an "odd" layout. They also noted that the menu trays were empty upon their arrival, limiting their time to make a selection, and pointed out that there were additional offerings available at the counter that were not displayed on the main menu sign. This suggests that while there are many options, the presentation and accessibility of the full menu might be an area for improvement, especially during peak hours.

Despite the menu presentation issue, this reviewer did try the beef soup bowl and found it to be "nice in itself." The beef was described as "ample and very tender," indicating a generous portion and good quality of the protein. However, they noted that the soup was "a bit salty and oily," although still "easy to drink." The noodles were described as "decent" but "a bit mushy," and the reviewer mentioned that there did not seem to be an option to swap out the noodles when ordering. They also cautioned that the bowl was served without a cover for dine-in orders, so care is needed when carrying it due to the soup's temperature.

Overall, Junzi Kitchen near Columbia University appears to be a popular spot, particularly during lunchtime, likely due to its convenient location, customizable options, and generally well-received food. The emphasis on "healthy authentic Chinese" suggests a commitment to using quality ingredients and preparing dishes that stay true to traditional Chinese flavors while perhaps incorporating a lighter or more health-conscious approach. The modern decor and fast service contribute to a positive dining experience for many customers.

For local users in the vicinity of Columbia University and Upper Manhattan, Junzi Kitchen offers a diverse menu of customizable bowls with various bases, proteins, vegetables, and sauces. The option to create your own meal caters to a wide range of preferences, from those seeking hearty noodle bowls to lighter salad or rice-based options. The reported reasonable prices make it an accessible choice for students and residents alike. While there might be some challenges during peak hours, such as longer lines and potential menu display issues, the overall quality of the food and the efficiency of the service seem to be strong points.

I came around lunch time and the line wrapped around the customers eating their meals making it odd to pass by. I noticed the menu trays were empty, so I had limited time to pick. There are additional offerings by the counter that were not on the sign. The beef soup bowl was nice in itself - the beef was ample and very tender. The soup was a bit salty and oily, but easy to drink. The noodles were decent and a bit mushy - there didn't seem to be a way to swap it out when ordering. The venue was fairly quiet and well lit. When I ordered in, I had the bowl by itself (without cover), so be careful when carrying it as the soup is fairly hot

I had lunch at this Asian bowl spot. The decor is nice and simple, modern looking. The counter is well layed out with each step explained. There are a lot of options from salad bowls, to rice bowls, and noodle bowls. There's also a good variety of base sauce options. I ordered the flat noodles with tomato egg sauce. I also got the chili oil as a garnish which added some kick to the dish. The service was fast and great, prices were reasonable. Food tasted good overall.

Just visited Junzi Kitchen and it’s a fantastic spot for anyone who loves customizable Chinese cuisine. The dim sum, like the Steamed Chicken & Shrimp Shumai and Boiled Pork Wontons, was delicious and perfectly paired with soy dipping sauce. But the standout was definitely the “Build Your Own” option. I went with Tomato Egg Noodles with Slow-braised Pork and was blown away by the rich, flavorful tomato egg sauce. The Lion’s Head Meatballs and Shanghai Scallion Noodles were equally impressive, each dish bursting with authentic flavors. Junzi Kitchen offers a unique way to enjoy classic dishes your way. Highly recommend for a fresh take on Chinese favorites!
