About Joy East Chinese Buffet

Welcome to Joy East Chinese Buffet, a Chinese restaurant located at 2410 E Riverside Dr in Austin, Texas. As part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Joy East Chinese Buffet offers an all-you-can-eat experience at a competitive price point for local users.

Based on recent customer reviews, the environment of Joy East Chinese Buffet appears to be a significant area of concern. One reviewer described the look of the place as "very uncomfortable," noting empty stacks of boxes, dim lighting, and an unappealing seating area. This reviewer also mentioned a lack of customers, suggesting a potential decline in the restaurant's popularity.

In terms of services, Joy East Chinese Buffet operates as a buffet where customers serve themselves. One customer reported a negative experience with the food temperature, stating that nothing they ate was warm or hot. This same reviewer also mentioned a lack of food options and an unhelpful response from staff when raising concerns about the cold food.

Another reviewer provided a more nuanced perspective, suggesting that if price is the primary concern and one is willing to overlook cleanliness issues and the clientele, then Joy East Chinese Buffet might be an option for an all-you-can-eat experience. This reviewer noted that the food was "good for the most part" with an okay to good flavor and a surprising variety of items, including stir-fry clams, BBQ spare ribs, plantains, and hot wings, seemingly catering to a broader palate beyond just Chinese cuisine. They particularly enjoyed the Buffalo wings.

However, this same reviewer raised serious concerns about the sanitary conditions, observing patrons using serving utensils improperly and instances of poor personal hygiene. They also described the bathroom as not being in great condition. Additionally, this reviewer recounted feeling uncomfortable due to a perceived unwelcoming attitude from some of the clientele.

The price for a lunch buffet with a soda was around $14, with a $2 tip bringing the total to approximately $16. In summary, Joy East Chinese Buffet offers an affordable all-you-can-eat option with a decent variety of food. However, potential customers should be aware of the reported issues concerning the environment, cleanliness, and potentially the clientele, as these aspects seem to be significant drawbacks based on recent feedback. This place was horrible honestly. 31$ in total for two people to eat , food was extremely cold neither me or my partner ate a single warm or hot thing the entire time . So unfortunately extremely poor food service which is obviously unpleasant due to wanting to enjoy your meal especially for the price of 31$ . The look of the place was very uncomfortable, empty stacks of boxes everywhere , dim lighting , ugly seating area just awful. Very little customers aswell so you can tell the place has been going downhill , when we got up to pay & leave my partner asked for a discount , telling the worker the food was cold , she brushed it off as if this was a normal encounterment . I don’t recommend at all the place has very little food option aswell. 0-10 truthfully do better

This was a tough one, but I have to be honest. If you don’t care about the clientele and cleanliness, and just want all the food you can eat for a great price; then this is the place for you. The food was good for the most part, nothing too fancy, okay to good flavor, I was surprised about some of the items that they had such as stir fry clams, bbq spare ribs, plantains, and even hot wings. But I know it’s to cater to some of those who wanted some other variety than just Chinese food, which is honestly not a bad thing. I actually loved the Buffalo wings, wasn’t too saucy or that spicy but bring in a bottle of franks hot sauce or crystals hot sauce and you’re good to go. My biggest gripe comes from the sanitary side of things. Walking in, there was a dominant clientele base in there and they seemed surprised to see an Asian person at a….Chinese buffet……yeeeeeeah. I heard one of them say “chinito” and being the only other Asian there other than the staff and cook, it wasn’t hard to determine who they were talking about. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable but I was there for the food and not them. Next, to the patrons using the utensils to plate their food, DON’T PUT THE UTENSIL BACK ONTO THE FOOD! For instance, the tongs where your hands would be weren’t off to the side but on the ribs itself! The ribs still looked good and were good, I just had to grab one from the bottom. I even saw this for the chow mein, and some other items but come on people! Next is that there were obviously kids in there, you can’t avoid that but parents should accompany the kids to help them, although these parents are the type to not care about what they do. I saw people wiping their hands on their clothes then reaching for another spatula….ugh! I guess I’m just too much of a clean freak but I am considerate of others and so if I have to go wash my hands, I will gladly do so. The bathroom wasn’t too great either while we’re on that subject but at least it worked. I only had one round of food and it was enough for me. I paid and walked out. For a lunch buffet with a soda, it was around $14 and I added a $2 tip so it was $16ish. Good food, good price, not so good clientele.

This place smells like dirty carpet when you enter the dining room. You can see where food has been spilled and never cleaned everywhere. The bathrooms are just as bad with tags on the walls broken items. The food was just okay. I was really not interested in eating, the surroundings are that bad. Looks like one time this might have been a great place. It is time for new flooring and complete make over. They can't maintain too long like this I will never go back. Buffett cost for a meal and ice tea $14.50. I was in the area just stopped in for lunch. I had to go look for someone to get a ticket to pay out.

I've always enjoyed Joy East Buffet, though sometimes some of the food, such as the veggie spring rolls are underdone, and every now and then, some of the other food is not as hot and fresh as I would like it, for the most part, it's always overall, a great buffet, well worth the price, and beyond! There's not a better Chinese buffet in town! Believe me,. I've tried them all! I'm a huge Chinese food buff! The way they prepare their food, spice wise and preparation wise, is superior to every other Chinese buffet in town (some of which are gross), in my opinion. Joy East is my absolute favorite, matter what. I'll always return to Joy East. Great food, and Service!
