Jing Fong, a classic dim sum establishment, brings the flavors of Chinatown to the Upper West Side with its authentic offerings. Known for its long-standing reputation, this restaurant offers a nostalgic dining experience that stays true to its roots. During a recent dinner visit, I explored a variety of classic dim sum dishes, all served piping hot and skillfully prepared. Among the highlights were the shrimp dumplings (har gow), which were delicately wrapped and bursting with fresh, flavorful filling. The rice rolls, with their silky texture and savory soy-based sauce, also stood out as exceptional. For dessert, the sesame balls provided a delightful conclusion—crispy on the outside, soft and sweet within, and a refreshing contrast to the savory courses. While the décor and ambiance may feel a bit dated, the focus here is unmistakably on the food. Its convenient location makes it an accessible destination for those seeking an authentic Chinese dining experience in the neighborhood. Jing Fong UWS delivers satisfying and traditional dim sum dishes that are well worth a visit.
Loved it. Got my favorite (and hard to get) snow pea sprouts, soup dumplings, and fried rice. The duck my friend got was tasty as well. The people who worked there were nice and professional.
The shrimp, crab and spinach dumplings ($8.50) and the beancurd pork rolls ($9.00) were both excellent. The sautéed string beans ($11.95) was average. I personally prefer their Chinatown location (in terms of ambience and menu selection) but this one is pretty decent if you don’t want to trek down to Centre Street.
Spend the night on the location before the shooting in early morning around UWS, moseying around the neighborhood and found Jing Fong. First, let's order Tsing Tao beer to lift up my spirit, and I've ordered Steamed seasoned pork with tofu skin wrapped in coconut milk. I usually had this one every times when I stopped by Dim Sum place. but this was the first time that I had in coconut milk. Second, was Fried pork chop. It was good but nothing special. But brown rice wasn't hot as it should be. Likely, I didn't get the best of Jing Fong tonight, I believed. Anyway, what disappointed me was the timing. I've order appetizer for 10 mins and still waiting, however, the pork chop even served before appetizer. I know this is not the end of the world, but I just want to spend sometime enjoy meal, and beer for the night. Nothing's wrong. Server was very attentive, friendly. Probably I should try their Dim Sum next time, I've heard they have a good one.
The pork chop, cauliflower, and the fried rice noodles are super super super salty. The dim sum items are pretty good! And good thing is that many main dishes come with rice. Service is below expectation. The waitress asked us once throughout the entire dining “how was everything”, but no response to our comment “these two dishes are too salty.”
